Chapter 21

The next day I went to school.  I knew it was going to be torture, seeing Will there, but I had to face it.  It was also the day that the crash was going to happen, so we were all on end.

When we pulled into the parking lot, I couldn’t see Will’s car anywhere.  It made me nervous not seeing him, standing beside his car and waiting for me.

“Are you sure you want to come back today?” Remy asked.

“I have to,” I said.  “I need to warn him about Matt.”

“But he didn’t listen to me when I told him,” she said.

“Well, I’m just going to have to make him listen.”

I didn’t want to talk to anyone when I walked into Calculus, but Rebecca was already hugging me.

“Are you alright?” she asked, pulling back to look at me.

“I don’t know.  Especially with this being the day that everything’s supposed to happen,” I said.

Calculus was a drag.  And since everyone seemed to know about what happened with me and Will, I felt like everyone was staring.  I laid my head down on the desk and shut my eyes.  But what I was seeing wasn’t a dream.  I was still awake, so it couldn’t have been.

I was seeing Will driving down the highway.  Then I saw Matt coming in behind him, following him.  Will didn’t seem to see Matt behind him.  But then I was looking at Matt.  He was smiling.  He held up a piece of paper and it had something written on it.

You have one hour.  You’d better hurry, it read.

I shot up, but didn’t scream like the other times.

“We have to go,” I said to Tyler, Carlee and Rebecca.

“What?” Rebecca asked.

“It’s happening,” I said, gathering up my stuff and rushing to the door.  “Hurry!”

I didn’t wait for them to come.  I rushed off to Remy’s class and flung open the door, not noticing everyone staring at me when I did.

“Remy,” I said.  “It’s happening.”

She realized what I had said quicker than the others had, so she grabbed her stuff and ran out of the room with me.  Carlee and Rebecca were already beside my car when Remy and I got there.

“Tyler’s taking his truck and is going to follow us,” Carlee said.

“Get in,” I said as I threw open the door.  “We only have an hour to catch up with them.”

We were speeding out of the parking lot with Tyler behind us seconds later and heading for the highway.  Everyone was silent as I sped down the road.

“How do you know it’s happening?” Remy asked.

“I don’t know,” I said.  “I closed my eyes for a second and I saw Will and Matt going down the highway.  And then when I looked closer at Matt, he held up a piece of paper and it said that I only had an hour.”

“So we don’t know where they’re headed?” Carlee asked.

“No,” I said.

“I might have an idea,” Remy said.

“What?” I asked, looking at her.

“Cassandra said that Ethan was returning something,” she said.  “Head toward Atlanta.”

“And where will we be going if we head that way?” I asked.

“I’m still not telling you,” she said.  “Maybe he’ll turn back like they said he would.”
