Chapter 15

But before I could ask anything, Remy popped in out of nowhere.

“We did it!” she yelled, grabbing me up in a hug.

I was still staring at the shadow, a million thoughts running through my head on what it meant by that last statement.

“Did what?” I asked, trying to form thoughts.

“Did what?  We’re okay!  We’ve been found and right in the same spot where we were in the dream!” she said.

I was finally able to hear her clearly as she launched into the entire story.

“Well, when I woke up, Will was still sleeping, so I had to wake him up, too.  And let me tell you, he does not like to be woken up.  He was really grumpy, but all he did after I woke him was sit there and look at you like you’d disappear from him forever.”  She took a breath and smiled.  “And then we heard that helicopter.  That stupid megaphone thing scared the crap out of me so bad I practically screamed.  And when all of those people started running toward us, Will still didn’t see anything until they were right there surrounding us.  It was so crazy!”

“What else happened?  Where are we now?” I asked anxiously.

“Hold on.  I was getting to that part.  Anyway, they had to pull us up one at a time into the helicopter in one of those basket things because they couldn’t land anywhere.  They lifted you up first and Will kind of freaked because he didn’t want to let you out of his sight.  Then they lifted me and him up and we flew to some hospital in Boise.  I can’t remember the name right now.  But it seemed like we were in that stupid helicopter for hours.  I think we might have been, though.”

“Where were we?” I asked when she paused.

“Somewhere in the middle of Idaho, in a national park.  I don’t really see how we could have been lost that long in a national forest, though.”

“Well, I think any national forest would be pretty big,” I said.

“Yeah, but the place really doesn’t matter now that we’re found.”

I rolled my eyes.  “Okay, okay.  Go on, then.”

“Oh, yeah.  Well, we got to the hospital and there were, like, news crews everywhere.  I guess the story was all over the news, because it’s basically all they’re talking about on television right now.  When we got there, they were trying to get us to talk about it, but they rushed us into the hospital so fast.”

“What about Mom and Dad?  How are they?”

“They got on a plane as soon as they heard.  It’s amazing they would still get on one since we crashed.  They’ll probably be there when I wake up.  Hopefully, you will be, too.”

“Any injuries?” I asked, mainly wanting to hear about myself.  That was main worry now, after what the shadow said.

“Will’s fine.  They just had to make sure none of his cuts had gotten infected, but they’re still keeping him there.  I think his parents are flying up with Mom and Dad.  I still think they’re crazy.  And I did have a few cracked ribs.  It’s funny how it didn’t bother me as much as I thought it would have.”

Her voice became softer.  “You’re the worst.  They’re still trying to figure out why you’re in a coma.”  She put air quotes around ‘coma’.  “A couple of minutes after they got us in the helicopter, you stopped breathing.  You started again, though, after scaring us half to death.  You did the same when we were on the way to the hospital and when we got there, but that time you didn’t start back up.  It really scared me.  And then your heart beat was really low when you were breathing.  It also stopped for a moment right when we got into the helicopter.  They’re still doing all kinds of tests, trying to figure out what’s wrong.  Everything they test for comes out to be negative.  They’re totally stumped.”
