Chapter 15

Slamming open the back door of the school to the student parking lot, I stalked out and toward Brittany’s car.  She was already at the driver’s side door with her hand on the handle when she saw me coming toward her.  Her eyes widened at my expression.

“What’s wrong with you?’ she asked as I walked toward the passenger’s side door.

“You know what’s been bothering me,” I said.  “The same thing that’s been bothering me for the last few days.”

“Sabina!” a voice shouted from the doorway leading into the school.

“Oh,” she said, watching as Leo ran toward us.

Right as my hand reached for the handle, I heard the click of the door locks locking.  I looked over the hood at Brittany, who was looking at me with a steady gaze.

“You need to talk to him,” she said.

“No, I don’t,” I said, and pulled on the handle even though I knew it wouldn’t open.  “Now open the door.”

“Talk to him for just a minute, get some of your feelings out,” she said.

“I just want to get out of here,” I said.  “I already had to deal with him all through last class.  He’s tried to talk to me, but I’m not one who wants to talk right now.”

“Please,” she said, pleading with her eyes.  “Just talk to him.  For me.”

I sigh heavily and turn toward Leo, who had just stopped at the hood of the car, just a few feet from me.

“I’m tired of trying to coming up with a reason to just forgive you from keeping everything,” I said.

“Well, I was tired of keeping it from you,” he said, his eyes locked with mine and not letting me go.

“And I want to say that I don’t want you in my life now,” I said.  “I don’t know when I’ll let you back in, or if I will.”

“Sabina…”  He took a step toward me.

“No,” I said, stepping back.  “Just go away.”  I turned to look at Brittany, who was just staring at me.  “Please, just unlock the door and take me home.”

She looked at Leo and mouthed the word ‘sorry’, but then unlocked the doors.  I pulled open the door and got in.  I didn’t look up from my hands that were twined in my lap as Brittany started the car and pulled out.  I could feel Leo’s eyes still locked on me, but I didn’t dare look up.  Because if I did, there was no telling what was going to happen to me.

There was complete silence in the car as Brittany drove to my building.  I wanted to get up and to my apartment before I saw Leo’s Lamborghini pull into the parking lot.  Without a word, I got out and headed for the doors and toward the elevator with Brittany close behind me.

She didn’t open her mouth to speak until we got into my apartment and in my room.  But before any sound could come out, I stopped her.

“Don’t,” I said.  “I know what you’re going to say.”

“You shouldn’t have said that to Leo,” she said anyway.

I lay down on my bed, burying my head in my pillows, and heard her take a seat at my desk.  We were quiet for a long time, up until we hear footsteps in the apartment above us.  I turn over and look up at the ceiling.

“Are you ever going to talk to him?” Brittany asked, breaking the long silence.

“I really don’t know,” I said.  “I’ve got to get over this first.”
