Chapter 9

As I walked into Calculus, I thought everything was going to be really awkward between Tyler, Carlee and me.  But when I sat down in my seat, it was totally different.

“Hey,” Carlee said, smiling.

I smiled back.  “Hi,” I said.

“To tell you the truth, I thought this was going to be kind of awkward.  But it isn’t,” she said.

“I was thinking the same thing,” I said.  “I guess twin minds think alike.”

“We think more alike than most know,” she said.

“That’s true,” I said.  Then I looked over at Tyler, who had his head on his desk, not looking at us.  I nodded in his direction and gave Carlee a questioning look.

“You honestly can’t tell what he’s thinking about?” she whispered, raising her eyebrows.  “There’s only one right answer and you know what it is.”

Tyler raised his head.  I was sure he was going to say something to Carlee, but instead he just looked toward the door.  I turned, and then turned back toward.

“How did you know she would be walking in the door right then?” I asked him.

“After what Simonides said about us, I just know when she comes into a room.  It’s like I can sense her,” he said quietly.  He watched as Rebecca walked down the aisle and sat down.

“Hey,” I said.  “Are you okay?”

She looked a little worried, like she was either confused about something or trying to figure it out.

“I need to talk to you about something. Later.”  She looked at Tyler and Carlee, who were looking at her.  Carlee was smiling at her and Rebecca seemed even more confused.  “Why are you looking at me like that?” she asked Carlee.

“No reason,” she said.

I laughed and watched as Tyler’s face turned redder.  Rebecca saw this and turned around to face the front, her own face growing a bit pink.

“Okay class, Mrs. Culbreth is going to be out today and tomorrow, so sign in and your assignments are on the board,” Mrs. Kennedy, the substitute teacher, said.  “You can talk, just as long as you get your work done.”

The assignment was just a few problems, so I knew it wouldn’t take me that long.  I flew through them, only taking about twenty minutes.  But it seemed that Tyler, Carlee and Rebecca were just a little bit faster.

“So what did you want to talk about?” I asked.

“It was about…” Rebecca started, but then looked at Carlee, who was also looking at her, and Tyler, who was scanning the room, trying not to look at her.  He didn’t succeed.

“Is it about the dreams?” I asked, and Rebecca’s eyes went wide as she looked between the three of us.  “Don’t worry, they know everything.”

“You told them, too?” she whispered, her eyes still wide.

“Well, I really didn’t need to tell them since they already know,” I said.

“What?” she asked.

“We do the same thing as she and Remy do,” Carlee said.  “We were kind of brought together last night in our dream.”

“So you guys, like, see stuff that’s going to happen, too?”

“Yeah,” Tyler said, finally breaking his silence.  “But it doesn’t seem as interesting as theirs are.  Or yours for that matter.”
