In the wake of their parents' divorce, seven year old Polly and six year old Betty question their mother about how she met their beloved father.

"Where is this sudden interest coming from?" Alice asks her daughters.

"Well, my friend Kevin from school said his mommy and daddy are also getting a divorce. He said his parents met in the navy." Betty explains. "He said they don't love each other anymore because his daddy loves someone else."

"Do you love daddy?" Polly asks.

"I'll always love him for giving me the best two little girls anyone could ask for."

"If you love him, why are you two getting a divorce?" Betty asks.

"That's a conversation for when you're older. You're much too young to understand right now."

"Did you ever love anyone else that wasn't daddy?"

"Well, there were two other guys before your father."

"Who?" They question simultaneously.

Alice chuckles at their eagerness. "I can't tell you that. They're in my past, girls. Let's leave it there."

"Come on, mommy." Polly pouts.

"Pretty please?" Betty begs.

Alice thinks about it for a second. She can't say no to their precious little faces. "Okay, but I'm changing their names and a few other things. You'll just have to guess which one is your father."

"Deal!"

"Alright then. Let's call the first boy...uh, Dylan McKay."

Alice thinks back on her brief romance with Fred Andrews. He was team captain of the baseball team and the front man to his self-appointed garage band, the Fred Heads.

She wouldn't consider their relationship much of a relationship. It was sort of a fling for two friends finding comfort in each other.

Alice pulls back from Fred's lips. He leaves his hands on her hips but leans back against the wall of the van. "What?"

"I don't know. Is this weird? The Shaggin' Wagon of all places?"

"What about it?" Fred furrows his eyebrows.

"You and FP fixed it up together all summer."

"Who is FP?" Polly interrupts her mother. She doesn't understand why his name comes up when she said she was talking about Dylan.

"We'll get to him later." Alice hushes her.

"It's not like we're going to go out telling him about what we're doing." Fred tells her. "Besides we're only making out. Right?"

Alice sighs. She climbs off of his lap and sits beside him. "I guess you're right."

"What's that about? Weren't you two just hooking up?"

"I don't know. I just...forget it."

"Do you like him?"

"What?"

"Do you have feelings for him?"

Alice turns away. "We were just fooling around, having some fun. Why would I?"

"Then why do you care if we swap spit in here?" Fred points out. "Does it feel wrong to you because of him?"

"He's your best friend. Isn't this a little odd to you?"
