Chapter 27: You Certainly Weren't Praying In There, Were You?

"What are you doing? I thought you left with the guys," I say to Scar, who is cleaning the living room up, getting rid of our decorations.

"See, I knew you were gonna use cleaning this up as an excuse to not attend the party." He smirks, looking up.

I start helping him. "I have better things to do in my life rather than attend Tina's stupid parties."

My voice was too bitter.

"You have to show them it doesn't affect you! Plus, Ax has only gone to be polite, you think he's over you after you guys almost made out in the bathroom?"

"How'd you know that?" I ask.

"Well you certainly weren't praying in there, now were you?" a smirk paints his lips.

Putting the last of the decorations in the dust bin, he drags me up the stairs.

"You're getting changed and we're leaving!"

After a few minutes of arguing, I submit and finally find a party outfit. When I step out of the washroom, Scar grins.

The red lacy tank top isn't as uncomfortable as it looks and the high waisted skinny black jeans hug me just fine.

"Oh, he's gonna die just looking at you!"

***

The music was a little too loud for my liking as we stepped into Tina's enormous house.

Immediately we knew where Axel was, next to Tina (the centre of attention) he looked uncomfortable but I couldn't help but feel he was finally where he belongs, in the limelight.

Scar gets me a soda and we idly chat about someone sneaks up on me.

"Boo!" Jenny yells.

I give her a lazy smile. "You're gonna have to try harder."

She just laughs.

"Someone's in a good mood," I remark.

She shrugs. "Miracles do happen."

"I think it's making you nicer," Scar chirps.

"You wish," the girl in question snorts.

"What a lame party," Scar adds.

"Well, you're just not seeing the bright side," Jenny says.

I'm third wheeling, aren't I?

"What's the bright side?" my best friend asks.

Jenny gives a confident smile. "You're looking at her." She waves her hand over her body, her leather jacket adorning her white tank top and black skinny jeans.

Scar raises his eyebrows, amused.

She grabs his collar. "Mind if I borrow this idiot for a while? You've got company coming anyways," she wiggles her eyebrows.

And I turn around to find Chase making his way to me.

He wore a simple white t-shirt, draped over his body in a simple, hot kind of way.

"Hey," he smiles, his eyes raking in what I'm wearing and I hope I'm not blushing.

He has an unfairly pretty smile. I greet him in return and he drags me with him to the table tennis area.

"Oh no," I decline. "I'm bad at this stuff."

"Even better!" he laughs, his brown eyes gleaming under the light as he propels me forward, keeping his hands on my shoulders.

After a match- or as I like to call it, where he played like a God and I lost miserably- he keeps laughing.

I pull my hair back. "Oh, you wait and watch!"

A competitive smile flashes on his lips.

We spend the next hour or so playing table tennis and I actually win the last few rounds.

When we're done playing, I throw the tiny ball at him playfully.

"I think you let me win."

He gives me a sheepish smile, his dirty blond hair staring to fall over his forehead.

"Sometimes, you do what you gotta do to make a girl smile." He shrugs his shoulders.

I feel warmth rush to my cheeks. "Oh," I offer pathetically.

We talk idly about everything and he tells me about his parents' divorce when he was very young. He tells me he misses his little sister, whom he hasn't seen in years.

When the music gets too loud I ask him, "Do you wanna go someplace else?"

"No."

I shut up absolutely, feeling mortified.

He bursts into laughter, placing an arm over my shoulder. "You're so cute. Let's go."

He gets up, pulling my hand along, making way for us.

"I'll go get my car," he tells me when we reach the fountain by Tina's mansion's entrance and I nod.

A minute later, I hear Axel's frantic voice.

"Juliet!"

I turn around. "Hey, what's wrong?"

He fiddles with his hands looking at anything but me and I hold myself back from calming him down.

When he does speak, his voice is small and cracked.

"Tina kissed me."
