Adam ran quickly before he was late for his class, unusual for a student to be caring about their class attendance, but Adam had to care, he was the teacher.
Maths teacher for that matter, he was never late to his classes but today he was just so caught up in his own business he forgot about the time. As he walked into the room, kids were either yelling, throwing paper balls at each other or on their phones. Adam cleared his throat loudly, letting them know of his presence.
"Everyone, please sit down and get your homework out. Presuming you all did it." Adam chuckled softly, placing his laptop and bag down, he straightened out his work suit and walked around the classroom, collecting the homework. "I'm hoping when I grade all of these, at least half the class will get good marks, the other half will probably have to get tutored." He spoke sternly, gathering sheet by sheet.
"Mr Lambert?" A student, Melaine Moore, spoke. She was an average student, average IQ but she chose to hang around people that always distracted herself away from work.
"Yes, Melaine?" Adam spoke, collecting the last bits of homework, walking back to his desk where he put everything in his bag, to be marked later tonight. "Another sleepless night." Adam thought to himself.
"If we don't pass this years Maths, what happens next year?" Melaine asks, tapping away on her smartphone.
"Then you repeat it until you do pass, phone away." Adam stood at the front of the class, leaning on his desk and folding his arms across his chest. "Now today is going to be a fairly easy day as it's the first week of a new school year, I don't want to be one of those teachers so I'm giving you all a Math test, to see how well your revision is." Adam smirked, handing out the slips of paper.
As Adam went to hand the last few out, the principal knocked on the door.
"Oohh, Mr Lambert is in trouble." Some kids laughed. Adam finished handing the sheets out.
"Back in two minutes and when I do get back, I expect to see no phones out and people concentrating as hard as your brains will go." Adam spoke sternly. He walked out of the classroom to see the principal with someone next to him.
"Adam, this is our new student teacher, he will be in your class for this term before heading back to Finland to finish his schooling." She smiled, the man had blonde hair and the most beautiful blue eyes anyone could see, no pun intended, he wore a suit like Adam, and was only a little bit shorter than him.
Adam held his hand out. "I'm Adam Lambert, nice to meet you." He smiled. The man shook his hand.
"My name is Sauli Koskinen." He smiled back, his accent was strong but very clear.
"If you don't mind, could you show Mr Koskinen around and get him familiar with the school?" The principal asked.
Adam nodded, "That's absolutely fine, follow me and I'll introduce the students to you."
Adam and Sauli walked into Te surprisingly quiet classroom. Adam cleared his throat once again.
"Everyone can I please have your attention?" Adam spoke, they all looked up away from their work. "We have a new student teacher with us today, he will be us for this term so there won't be any excuses on why you didn't complete your work at the end of lesson now you have two teachers." Adam smiled.
"I'm Mr Koskinen, you can call me Mr K if that's easier for anyone to say, as Mr Lambert said, I will be here for one term only before going back to Finland to finish my teaching career." Sauli spoke confidently but Adam could tell her was really nervous.
"Now, I want you to all be very nice to Mr Koskinen as he is a guest, not a new student. He has just as much authority as I do, so don't treat him any different than me."
"Don't worry, I won't." Melaine smirked, students laughed.
"Melaine, you know what we've talked about with flirting with new teachers." Adam raised his eyebrow. She simply rolled her eyes. "Enough dilly dallying, back to work, I expect you all to hand your work up when lesson ends, and I mean all!" Adam smiled, letting the kids know to get back to work, Adam sat down at his desk, pulling out a chair for Sauli.
"How many students do you have in your class?" Sauli asked as Adam sorted out some work.
"28 to be exact, it was 30 but a few dropped out." Adam chuckled. "You know what year 11 is like, it's tough. Most can't handle the pressure."
"I know the feeling all to well." Sauli sighed. "Is Maths the only subject you teach?"
"Wednesday's afternoon I teach vocal lessons." Adam smiles.
"Well then I'm sure this term will be a good one." Adam looks up to the ocean blue eyes, shaking his head gently as he sets his sights back on the work.
"So what made you come to America to teach?" Adam asks, standing up to write homework on the board.
"I love the culture and freedom that America has to offer." Sauli smiles. "I do plan on going back to Finland to teach but I needed some experience that wasn't in my home state, so I chose America." Adam couldn't think of one good thing about America, all he wanted to do was leave.
Adam was about to speak when the lunch bell went off, signalling the end of Maths.
"Alright everyone! This is your homework, please hand it in tomorrow's lesson otherwise it's an after school detention. Do you hear me?" Adam spoke loudly over the voice of students all around him.
"Yes Mr Lambert." They spoke at the same time.
"Don't go and get high during lunch break either please, I'm looking straight at you Samuel." Adam spoke, staring at one of his students.
"Come on Mr Lambert, it's a free country ain't it?" Samuel groaned.
"If it was, we'd be eating like kings." He replied, laughing. The rest of the kids left, leaving an empty classroom.
"Shall we go to lunch?" Sauli smiled warmly, Adam nodded.
"I'm starving." He laughed. They walked out into the near empty hallways and towards the cafeteria. "I'd avoid the sloppy shit they serve up, although they do make amazing sandwiches." Adam laughs.
"I'll take your advice." He speaks back, smiling. "Do you have any other classes after Lunch?" Sauli asks as they stand in line.
"Here." Adam speaks, handing Sauli a piece of paper. "My timetable."
"Ah, thank you." He smiles as they order two ham sandwiches and a water.
They walk over to an empty seat and sit across from each other.
"So, tell me a bit about yourself, Sauli, are you married, any kids? Your interests?" Adam asked, biting down on his sandwich.
"Uh, not married, single, very single." Sauli laughs. "No kids, my interests include teaching, skiing and... That's it, wow I never realised how boring I am." Sauli laughs quietly.
"I don't find you boring." Adam smiled. As Adam went to finish his last piece of sandwhich, shouting was happening just a few seats over, Adam groaned, dropping his food, running over to the argument. As Adam got there, the two boys who were just locked into a screaming match, suddenly started beating each other.
Adam was quick to move, pulling them apart, keeping one boy, who was Samuel from his class and the other was Matthew, no surprise there, Matthew was always in fights, no matter what.
"You asshole!" Samuel suddenly spat towards Matthew, Adam sighed.
"Both of you cut it out! Now tell me what's going on!" Adam demanded. All he wanted was to enjoy his sandwich in peace. He saw Sauli standing, watching.
"Matthew spilt milk all over my shirt on purpose so I tripped him." Samuel had a smug smirk on his face, he was clearly proud of himself.
"Right, you two to the Principal's office." Adam spoke, letting them go. They stood, eyeing each other. "Now, boys!" Adam yelled. They both groaned, walking out of the cafeteria. "Everyone please just go back to your lunch!" Adam sighed, walking back his seat with Sauli.
"That was intense." Sauli laughs.
"No use in crying over split milk, no pun intended." Adam laughed.
"Hey Adam, new boy." Adam's best friend, Tommy spoke.
"Hey Tommy, this is Sauli, Sauli this is Tommy." Adam smiled, finally able to finish his sandwich, as he was about to put it in his mouth, Tommy grabbed it, eating it quickly. Adam glared him.
"Nice sandwich." Tommy smirked.
"I will stab you, Ratliff." Adam huffed.
"You can try." Tommy laughs before standing up again. "Alright you two loners, I gotta go, see ya round."
"Nice bloke." Sauli smiled as he put his rubbish in the bin.
"Besides his sandwich thieving, he is a great bloke." Adam smiled dorky.
The bell for lunch went off as Adam put his rubbish in the bin.
"Last lesson of the day." Sauli smiled as they walked to class.
"For the kids maybe, those papers have Adam mark me, all over them." Adam replied.
"Come on then, the quicker the lesson goes, the quicker we can get started on marking the papers." Sauli laughs and his eyes light up.
"Let's go then, you big dork." Adam smiles wide.
