SEASON SEVEN - EPISODE TWENTY TWO
"GODS AND MONSTERS"

...Somewhere Far Away From New Orleans...

The sun stands high up in the sky in a beautiful day of summer. A huge white house, located in Albuquerque at New Mexico is seen surrounded by trees and a field of lavenders.

At the front garden we see five year old versions of Theodore and Hope, running after each other.

From a nearby porch, Rosalind is pacing back and forth on the phone, seeming completely frustrated.

"You've got be kidding me!" she huffs "no! I know..."

She stares at the twins while they continue to run.

These last three years have been certainly a challenge Rosalind never knew she would face it.

Being a single mother wasn't a problem for her. She loves Theodore and Hope more than anything, which makes her one hundred percent more scared, knowing what they are and what kind of danger might be after them. Especially after the fall of the Mikaelson family.

Not only she was hiding from the world, but also hunting and scheming nonstopping. After all, she promised to bring them all back together.

And she shall do it.

"There must be another way" Rosalind says on the phone "I understand, but consider my side of the story, goddamnit!"

"MOMMY!"

Rosalind smiles, seeing Hope and Theodore running towards her.

She sighs as the person on the phone keeps talking.

"Fine!" she huffs "we will be there"

She walks down the porch, meeting two beautiful pairs of blue eyes.

"I'll see you soon, Damon" she hung up the call.

"MOMMY!" 5 year old Hope wraps her arms around her left leg "get me!"

Rosalind chuckles and strokes her strawberry colored hair. She kneels in front of her, just as Theodore arrived too.

"I found a kitten!" 5 year old Theodore grinned happily and shows his mom the little fur ball.

"I found it too!" Hope pouts.

"I did!"

"No!"

"Yes!"

"No!"

This type of argument was oddly common.

After all, what siblings are made for?

But she could see how much love they have for each other. Both Theodore and Hope have always had a strong connection.

"Okay, enough!" Rosalind raises her voice a little "whoever found it must put it back"

"No!" both whine at her.

"Yes!" she says "I'm sorry but we cannot keep him!" she pets the little black cat.

"Why not?" Theodore and Hope crossed their arms. Another thing in common: the attitude.

Rosalind sighs.

"Remember when I told you both about the story of our family?!" they nod "so, in order to protect and reunite with them, we must be on the run and that cannot happen with a little pet"

Both children seemed to be thinking.

"Imagine how bad would be for him to always have to move around? He doesn't deserve it" Rosalind continues "plus, I'm sure his mommy is waiting for him"

The twins' eyes widened and the little cat was released.

"Bye!" they waved at the little animal.

These are one of those precious, short but extremely valuable moments that certainly keeps Rosalind going, no matter how hard it is to be always on the run nor all the things she's been doing in order to protect those she loves dearly.

The nonstopping noise coming from her phone, picked even the interest of the two five year old.

"Why don't we go inside and talk a little?" Rosalind asks with a soft smile.

Inside the beautiful house, both Theodore and Hope sat at the couch on the living room, with hot chocolates in hands.

Rosalind comes and sat on the coffee table in front of the couch.

"You two remember everything I explained about our family, right?!" she rhetorically asks, receiving nods from the twins "and when I say we protect our family no matter what, just like I protect you two?!"

"Yes!" they say in unison.

With a deep sigh yet a soft smile, Rosalind starts to explain what was waiting for them. She always knew what the amount of power they possess would occasionally means.

...FLASHBACK, A FEW HOURS AGO...

Rosalind was sat on her study, a map in front of her with a few places marked. Suddenly her phone started to ring.

"Caroline?" she answers it.

"Hey!" Caroline greets back, almost shaking from nervous.

"Talk to me!" Rosalind sits on the chair.

"So..." Caroline cleared her throat "...Bonnie almost got us, but I'm okay, I think..."

Rosalind sighs.

She told them.

It was going to be shit.

Why don't they just listen?

"Look, you guys can't keep doing this" Rosalind says "you've got to find another way"

"Damon and Enzo can fix her" Caroline says hesitantly. Of course she knew what she was about to ask was extremely dangerous.

"Well, that's great" Rosalind says "isn't it?"

"It...hm..." Caroline shutters.

"What?" Rosalind asks.

"You may not like it, actually you're gonna hate it" Caroline muttered.

"What do you need?" Rosalind asks.

"It involves Hope and Theo" Caroline says.

Rosalind snorted loudly.

"You're kidding right?!" she rhetorically asks "please, tell me you're kidding!"

"I'm sorry!" Caroline says, her voice full of guilty.

"I'm sorry too" Rosalind says "but they're not getting involved anytime soon"

"WHAT?" a voice yells from the back of the call.

"You heard me, Damon!" Rosalind snaps "you could've asked me anything, but not this"

"This isn't a joke, Rosie!" Damon seemed to have taken the phone from Caroline.

"Exactly!" she says "it isn't a joke! Their safety isn't a joke, specially not when all of this could've been prevented!"

The line went quiet for a moment.

"Look..." there is a long sigh from the other line "...we just them to get into the Armory"

"What about Lizzie and Josie?" Rosalind asks "they could simply siphon Bonnie's spell. Easy"

"We've tried, but we need a special type of magic apparently" Damon explains hesitantly "stronger"

Rosalind stays quiet after that.

"Rosie, I..." Caroline starts "...I'm willing to run, they're willing to run..." she sighs "...but then I talked to Bonnie on the phone and...she's scared" she says "And she's in pain. I know what this implies and I wouldn't want to put them into harm ways. Never"

"I understand all of this" Rosalind says "and I'm willing to do anything I can to help, as long as it doesn't involves my children"

"Rosie..."

"No!" she cuts them off "this is not a superhero story! There are thousand of supernatural creatures chasing after us, especially them. So no, I won't bring them there, not matter what"

"Where else would we find another pair of witches like them?!" Damon sarcastically asks "oh right! We don't, because they're the only ones from their specie"

"Mind your tone, Damon!" Rosalind snaps "and don't you ever speak of my children like this ever again!"

With that, she hung up furiously, almost shattering the phone in her hands.

What would she do?

...END OF FLASHBACK...

...Outside The Armory...

Caroline, Stefan, Damon, Alaric, Josie and Lizzie were all waiting outside the Armory, with eyes full of hope.

A black SUV appears and parks in front of them.

"They're here" Stefan announces.

Rosalind exits the driver's door, with sunglasses on and walks over the back door. Her heels clicking on the ground.

From the back door, Theodore and Hope exited with curious eyes, until they see all the other presences.

"UNCLE STEFAN!"

The youngest Salvatore smiles and bends down on his knees, to greet both children.

"Hey, little ones!" he hugs them "I thought we agreed on you two coming to see us more"

"We couldn't" Theodore says.

"We are busy people" Hope points out proudly.

Stefan smiles, sharing a look with Rosalind before pinching their cheeks slightly.

"I'm highly offended here" Damon says with a fake sternly expression.

Both Hope and Theodore crossed their arms together.

Speak about some attitude...

"Mom's mad at you, so we're mad at you too" Theodore speaks with a glare, standing in front of his mother.

For a brief second, Theodore's blue-greenish eyes turned amber.

Every since the twins started to understand the world around them, Rosalind noticed how strong their emotions can be and it manifests.

Rosalind only steps forward and places one hand at Theodore's shoulder.

"We will speak about it later, sweetie" she says holds both twins by their hands, before walking closer to the entrance of the Armory "you two remember when mommy said we have this big thing to do?" they nod "well there's something inside this building that's really important that we need"

Rosalind kneeled in front of them.

"The only problem is these doors are locked, so we're gonna need your help to open them, okay?" she asks in a soft voice.

"But we can't do magic!" Hope says with a frown "you said it's dangerous for us"

"It is" Rosalind nods "but sometimes, we do some sacrifices in order to protect our family"

"What if someone comes after us?" Theodore asks.

"Nothing will harm you two! Ever!" Rosalind says, caressing their cheeks "Want to know something cool? You two are very special because you two are the keys" she smiles in a motherly way "Let's play a game! Everyone put one hand on the door"

They place their hands upon the armory doors.

"Remember our last picnic at the tulip field?!" Rosalind asks rhetorically "I took away your goodie bag, and what happened?"

"I hurt you" Theodore mutters, his head down, seeming ashamed.

Rosalind kisses his little hand.

"Yes, because I took something from you" she says "Now...how would you feel if someone tried to take mommy away from you two?"

"Mad" Theodore frowns.

"Sad" Hope accompanies her twin.

Rosalind shares a look with Caroline, who was watching everything emotionally from behind them.

"Me too" Rosalind says "and that's exactly what's going to happen with auntie Caroline if we don't get inside of here, that might happen" she says "she might never be able to see Lizzie and Josie ever again, or hug them, tuck them in at night, just like I do everyday with you guys"

She takes their spelled bracelets off their little wrists.

"Imagine if this was us instead" she says, incentivizing them.

Hope and Theodore shared a look between them, before joining their hands together.

In less than a second, their hands start to glow a beautiful gold as the door seems to be unlocking itself.

"It's working" Alaric whispers stunned.

"Keep going, sweethearts" Rosalind says.

Suddenly, the door opened as their magic ceased. Incredibly, neither of them seemed even the slightest affected. They only smiled happily.

"Good job you two!" Rosalind laughs proudly "it was beautiful!"

Rosalind embraces them lovingly.

Nothing makes her happier than seeing her children learning about themselves and their legacy.

"It's all over" Rosalind addresses the others.

"Where are the little devils?" Damon asks Rosalind.

"Away from whatever's gonna come out of there" she answers.

"Well, for something to get out we have to be able to get in" he says.

Damon opens the large front door, seeing the twins successfully undid Bonnie's spell, creaking as it opens.

"Nice. Shall we?" Damon enter the Armory.

As Damon and Stefan started to walk towards the door, both stopped seeing Rosalind following them.

"Yep, no! Not gonna happen!" Damon stops in front of her.

"What?" she asks in a hard tone.

"Look, you've brought Theo and Hope here" Stefan starts "this is more than we should've ever asked for you to do. Now you stay here, out of trouble"

Rosalind scoffs.

"You do realize I am the best chance we have, right?!" she crosses her arms "a single piece of wood and it's 'bye bye'"

"Yeah! Yeah! Hybrid and all" Damon says "but you can't go in there" he shakes his head "there's people waiting for you outside"

Rosalind scoffs.

"So have you two" she says "we are all on the same line here"

Damon and Stefan shared conflicted looks.

"I'm going! Either you two like it or not" she says "who's gonna join next?"

After a moment, Stefan gestures for her to enter in front of them, before accompanying her with Damon behind him, who shuts the door after.

Inside the Armory, the three of them continue to walk further and further inside.

"Wow, this looks..." Stefan gulps, slightly scared "...promising"

"I've seen worse" Rosalind says with a scoff.

The Amory is completely trashed and dead, bloodied bodies are scattered throughout.

"So this thing that was in the vault that no one was supposed to open, do we know what it is?" Stefan asks.

"Yup! Bad" Damon says.

Stefan hums.

"Enzo says that the final Everlasting is in a coffin somewhere" Damon says.

"So let's just find this thing and get the hell out of here" Stefan says.

~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~

"This is appropriately creepy. Enzo said don't go in the vault" Damon says.

"Oh, we've searched everywhere else. You know, if you're scared, Damon, you can go, uh, wait outside with the three-year-olds" Stefan teases him.

"You guys ready to do this or what?" Rosalind asks.

"Yeah! Yes, I am. But I'm gonna do it alone" Damon says.

"Like hell you are" Stefan shakes his head "Whatever's down there is nobueno"

"Which is why you need us" Rosalind gestures between her and Stefan.

"Let me do this, guys" Damon says and turns towards Rosalind first "there's two mini-klaus waiting outside for you and if you go in there with me, and get all screwed up, I'm dead" he then turns to Stefan "don't even let me mention Caroline"

"We can help you" Rosalind insists.

"I know you two can...and you have" Damon sighs loudly "Over and over again, you've helped me. And over and over again, it's screwed you, and so, this time, I need a different kind of help, okay?" he turns towards Stefan "I need you...to let me go. Let me succeed or let me fail...but let me do it by myself. I'm sorry I walked out on you that night. You're right, I was scared. And I knew you'd be mad, but I also knew that you'd be okay. I know my choices suck sometimes, and you like to be there to head them off at the pass, but this time...I need you to believe in me. Okay?"

Stefan shakes his head no, not convinced to leave his brother.

"Damon, I..." Stefan was cut off.

"You don't want a life ruled by fear? Huh? Then, this time...you walk out on me, and don't be afraid of what'll happen. Trust I'll be okay. One way or another...I'll be okay" Damon says.

Stefan is still not convinced, though concedes to his brother's wishes.

"Okay. Listen, if...if you need me, I'll be..." again, Stefan was cut off.

"Right outside..." Damon says "...yeah"

Stefan leaves, still a concerned frown in his face.

"Don't die, okay?" Rosalind pleads at Damon "I understand when you say there's many and many people waiting for me, but there's also for you so..." she smiles at him "...be back safe, alright?"

Damon smiles softly at her.

"Have I ever told you how motherly you've become?" he jokes a little.

Rosalind snorted.

"Yes, you did! Now go!" she says.

Damon enters the vault, closing it behind him as Rosalind leaves.

Caroline and Alaric are waiting outside.

"Oh, God, it's been too long" Caroline nervously says.

Rosalind and Stefan exits the Armory.

"Oh, my God, thank God" Caroline practically jumps on them.

They embrace in a warm hug.

"Where's Damon?" Caroline asks.

"It's not over yet" Rosalind explains hesitantly "listen, I've gotta go and see the twins, but I will keep in touch, okay?" they nod and she embraces Stefan, then Caroline.

Rosalind notices Alaric standing there with a look she didn't quite understand.

"Hey, Ric?" she calls out for him "What's wrong?"

"I just..." he cleared his throat "...just wanted to thank you for bringing Hope and Theo here to save Caroline's life. They saved my daughter's mother's life"

Rosalind smiles.

"Don't worry" she says "of course I love Lizzie and Josie, but also, I've known Caroline ever since she was born. I would never let her die"

Alaric still seems conflicted and also nervous.

What?

"You're a good person, Rosie" Alaric says "probably one of the best I've ever knew and..."

She raises an eyebrow as he starts to shutter.

Caroline and Stefan were practically red from holding their laughs.

Rosalind was practically the only soul in this world who wasn't aware of Alaric's feelings her.

"Hm..." she trailed off "...are you okay?"

"I...I..." Alaric rubs the back of his neck "...I'm fine! I was just wondering if you ever realized how wonderful you are"

Rosalind's eyes widened.

What the hell?

"I..." she frowns "...thank you?" she raises an eyebrow "I should probably go!"

Rosalind gives him a hug too and absentmindedly gives him a kiss on the cheek, almost giving him a heart attack.

With that, she walks away while Alaric watches her entering her car and driving away.

He was brought out of his thoughts by two loud laughs from behind him.

Rolling his eyes, he turns around to see Caroline and Stefan almost crying from laugh.

"Good job!" Stefan teases.

"I could practically feel the chemistry" Caroline joins him too.

Alaric huffs.

"You two can make fun of me all you want, but Rosie is not just any woman and I don't want to screw this up" he confesses.

Stefan and Caroline give him sympathetic looks.

"Well, she's a single mother" Caroline says "fighting for her children and also the oldest vampire family in the world"

"You have to be..." Stefan trailed off "...a little patient. She has a lot on her plate"

"Also..." Caroline hesitantly starts "...there's still two Originals alive. Maybe not here at the moment, but still alive so..."

Alaric huffs, knowing exactly they right.

Rosalind is just everything someone would want, but also, she's not someone that anyone can have.

Of course not!

There's still so much to happen...

Let's just wait for the best!

After all, Mystic Falls is the place for the supernatural.

...On The Road, Outside Mystic Falls...

Rosalind was driving towards one of the safe houses she got for her and the twins, closer to her family. Of course.

[voiceover] "Dear sister, we were so close. Stefan and Care had finally worked through our problems. Bonnie and Enzo were on the verge of being happy, and Damon...Damon actually did the right thing. The selfless thing. They waited in that room for days. Stefan was throwing everything, including himself, at that door, trying to get it open. After a week, Alaric managed to crack the security code. We were prepared for almost anything...except what we saw. It was empty" Rosalind says.

Her phone vibrates with a message from Caroline.

[voiceover] "Completely cleaned out. I don't know how they got out, but they did"

'Bonnie's not fine' says Caroline's message.

[voiceover] "I'm worried about Bonnie. She lost the two people closest to her, and she can't even do a locator spell to find them. Her magic never came back. She feels hopeless"

Rosalind's car start to approach a house, close to a lake.

[voiceover] "I can obviously relate. The first months without Nik and the Mikaelsons were the worst. Thankfully Theo and Hope always kept me on going, but I don't know about Bonnie. She seems truly lost and can't stand seeing her like this"

She sees two little figures running towards her car.

"MOMMY!"

Rosalind smiles and kneels at their height.

"We missed you" Hope says, burrowing her face in her mother's neck.

"I missed you both too" Rosalind says and caress their backs "do you two remember what day is today?"

"PIZZA'S WEDNESDAY" both twins yelled happily.

Rosalind snorted.

"Pizza's Wednesday" she nods "let's go!"

She picks them up and goes towards the front door, smiling at the familiar face waiting for them.

"I assume they were well behaved, right?" Rosalind asks, placing the twins on the floor.

"Of course they did!" Jeremy Gilbert answers, sharing a look with the twins "we certainly didn't eat the chocolates from the blue box"

Rosalind rolls her eyes.

"I would cancel the pizza night but I'm hungry and in no mood to cook" she says and gives Hope and Theodore a look "we will talk later!"

They both pouted slightly.

"Mommy Rosie" Jeremy teases.

Rosalind nudges his shoulder with an annoyed look, but couldn't fight the little smile at what he said.

Mommy Rosie...

If there's one thing she's proud the most is to be called 'mommy' by the two little things sat at the couch, arguing over who's gonna get the biggest slice of pizza.

She could see so much of Klaus and herself in them.

They absolutely the perfect mixture between the two hybrids.

Rosalind couldn't help but wonder how long it would take for them to be reunited again.

One day...

Hopefully not too long!
