A/M: I said that I would do something special for my 100th chapter but still, end up with a one-shot. But of course, it is about Midorima because he is bae.
And was supposed to post this on my birthday on June 22, but I kinda overslept and woke up the next day XD
Note: the story is actually based on a FREE! Doujin. A MakoxHaru one. This is during world war 2 era or something.
I just love how cute and warm yet full of feels the plot of the Doujin is :)

Self-Portrait: Midorima x Reader.
"Shintarō, are you drawing Sakura trees again?" You sat beside him.
"Yes. I like even how strong the sea breeze is, they are still strong and in-tact."
"Neh Shintaro, can you draw your self-portrait for me?"
He finished the final touches of his draw. "You know better than anyone else that I only draw the nature or whatever I want." He was taken back actually, like, what would his girl Bestfriend do with his self-portrait?
"Geez! Relax, will you? Anyways, I'll be leaving tomorrow." You stand up dusted your clothes. "I am recruited to fight alongside the country's allies."
Shintaro was taken back. He never wanted this point to become a reality. Sure, being a second lieutenant of the marines, you'll wind up getting assigned to the battlefield. "I hate soldiers."
He hates soldiers. He hates that they would promise to "return" yet, most of the time, breaks their promise. Was it even a promise? He thinks it was just a mere statement to create false hopes.
"I know you do, Shintaro. I just wanted to tell you about it first. My departure would be next week."
"You're placed on the front lines, aren't you?"
"You could say that?"
"Tsk, why are you so happy?"
You walked towards him and picked up the tiny Sakura petal on top of his head. "I don't know why I feel okay with all these. But maybe it is a soldier's duty. To fight for freedom, until our existence is no longer needed. You know, you should accept the patrons hiring you to draw for them."
"Tsk, I don't need them to tell me what to draw. I draw what I want to draw."
"Well, your craft makes people happy, and remember memories. That is more than enough, right?"

It was the day of your departure, at the port, your family are giving you their goodbyes. When-
"Wait up (Your Name)!" There was Shintaro running at full speed towards you.
"Shinta-waaa!!!" He basically tackled you for a tight hug. So tight you felt that it might mean he doesn't want you to go.
"I can't make you stay now, right?" He pulled away from the hug and looks down at you.
Shaking your head left to right, you smiled slightly at him. "A soldier's duty."
"W-Well, here's what you're asking from me." He pushed a rolled up paper on your face. "B-but it's not like I made an effort doing that, n-nanodayo!"
Rolling the paper down..."What's this...oh..." You are astonished to see a self-portrait of Shintaro.
"Don't get that burned, dirtied or even damp! It's a special commission I made and-"
"I'll come back." This time you are the one who hugged him. "I promise."

Leaning in the railing, looking beyond the endless sea, you can't help but worry about everyone you left behind.
The self-portrait Shintaro made is well kept on you inner chest pocket.
"(Your Name)..."
"Hm? Ah yes Takao?"
"W-well...I am happy to see you here. And Shin-chan's not here and I was thinking-"
"Takao, if it is about your "affection" towards me, I won't be able to return it."
He chuckled and leaned on the railing. He lit up a cigarette and inhaled a good amount. "I can't win against him, huh?" He offered you a smoke, but you declined. "Anyways, the boss wants to talk to you."
"Yeah, thanks Takao."

25th day of March, at the sea of Italy, the fleet of Japanese navy headed to Germany has been attacked by submarine troops. 1 out of the three main ships has been sinked by bombardment of attacks which is Destroyer Sina.

Takao and almost everyone gathered to commemorate your Death Anniversary.
"How is Midorima doing?" Ootsubo asked Takao as they leave a prayer on your tombstone.
"Shin-chan, after that day, has only been drawing the sea and nothing else."
"Shit, never expected we'll meet each other again under this circumstances." Miyaji said, teeth gritting.

Shintaro is in the middle of completing yet another drawing Of the sea.
It was his own way of sending your soul to the sea, his wish of peacefulness.
*step step*
Upon hearing those footsteps, he immediately looked around, only to get disappointed. It's Takao.
"Yo Shin-chan."
"Takao."
"You've only been drawing the sea all this time?"
"Yeah."
"You know, (Your Name) won't be happy on how you're acting."

Another year has passed. Still on the same spot, under the Sakura tree, facing the sea.
A tired Shintaro leans on the tree, chanting wishful thoughts towards the never ending horizon. Hoping all of his prayers incorporated in all his drawing would give peace to your soul.
*step step."
He didn't bother to open his eyes, thinking it is again Takao.
"You've been drawing only the sea for two years?"
The familiar voice immediately made him snap his eyes open. And infront of him was you. The real you.
"(Your Name)!" He stands up and walked closer, not believing it was you.
"Yeah, it's me. I barely managed to survive that battle. But I did. Barely lucky to be washed ashore and helped by the local, I survived. But I was too broken and even suffered amnesia. And also..."
"Also?"
You pulled out a paper, wrinkled, dusty and slightly burnt. "This portrait of yours helped me remember everything. My name, where I came from. Your drawing really has a magic in it. So thank you very much, Shintaro." You gently grabbed his hand and put the folded paper on his hand.
Shintaro opened and surely, it was his portrait. "D-Damn it." He abruptly pulled you for a tight hug, making you let go of your crutches. "You d-don't know how much you made me worried. How you left me broken because of your promise. God, I love you so much (Your Name)."
Did you just heard him declare his love to you? Well, oftentimes you would declare your love at him before, but would often be dismissed by him, saying that you're just messing around with him.
But his face buried in your neck as it slowly felt damp, is a give away that he is serious.
"Shintaro..." You comforted him by patting his back with your other hand, playing his hair.
He pulled away from the hug and wiped his eyes and glasses with a cloth. He then pulled something inside his chest pocket. "Please, before I regret again, I wanted to tell you this. I love you, not as a Best Friend but something more than that. These past two years, the only thing I look forward to, the only thing I wish for the sea, is for you to return. (Your Name), I was afraid to ask you this because of your profession as a soldier. I thought that if I ever express these feeling I would be left broken. But I was wrong, in the end, I regret everything when they said you're gone."
"Shintaro..."
"(Your Name), please be mine, nanodayo." He has a ring in his hand, offering it to you, with of course, the signature blushing face. "I have loved you for a long time and I would be honored to spend the rest of my life with you and make you happy."
He held your left hand with his right.
The atmosphere was an anxious one. No one dared to talk as your head was down.
"Hey! I just proposed to you, you know!"
"Hand..."
"Huh?"
"Your hand is sweaty."
"W-what! Of course they are! I am nervous!"
"You're cute, Shintaro."
This made the lad blush more. "Of course I am honored to live together with you, because I love you too." You guided his other hand and made him put the ring on your finger.
After that, you wrapped your arms around his neck and slightly tiptoed to give him a peck on the lips. "That's your first kiss, right?"
He didn't manage to answer so you gave him another kiss, this one more passionate. You pulled away only to see him, eyes looking everywhere.
And as you are about to give him another kiss, you felt his arms wrap around your waist and this time, initiated the kiss.
"I love you (Your Name)."
"I love you too, Shintaro."

"Shintaro, I can't really help with anything until my legs are healed. But with my pension, calligraphy and with cooking since you suck with cooking, I would try my best to help!"
He had you in-between his legs as you are leaning your body on his chest. "B-Baka, you don't have to force yourself. Everything can wait."
"Even s*x?" You looked up to him with a taunting grin. Just to tease the man.
"W-what the heck (Your Name)!!!?
"Nah I was just kidding, we could have some "quality time" tonight. I am "safe" anyway. Hahaha!!!"
