SEASON TWO - EPISODE THREE
"EVERY MOTHER'S SON"

...Lycée...

Esther, still in Cassie's body, lights candles while she prepares a breakfast in the greenhouse. A starling chirps in a cage nearby while Esther begins cracking eggs into a bowl, mixing berries and herbs, and writing an invitation in fine calligraphy. She smiles as she looks at her work, and puts the invitation onto a silver platter with a lid.

...Mikaelson Compound...

In the courtyard, Rosalind is munching on an array of fruit and other breakfast food when Klaus comes down the stairs to join her.

"So, which restaurant's missing a compelled chef?" she asks him.

"It's certainly a card I've played in the past, but I had no hand in this..." Klaus says confused.

Klaus gestures to the food on the table for emphasis.

"Hmm. Well, then, I guess we have Elijah to thank?" Rosalind asks.

Elijah returns to the compound and joins them in the courtyard, and looks confused when he hears their conversation and notices the breakfast spread in front of them.

"This wasn't my doing..." Elijah trailed off.

"Then, where did this all come from?" Rosalind asks frowning.

The silver lid on the platter suddenly begins to rattle, which startles Rosalind  and Elijah so much that they jump in fright for a moment. Klaus looks uneasy and lifts the platter, which releases two starlings that fly up toward the ceiling, causing the three to reflexively duck to avoid being hit. They all look puzzled and nervous.

"What the hell was that?" Rosalind asks.

Klaus reaches for the invitation and opens it. It reads, 'Dinner, Your Home, 8PM'

"An invitation from our mother" Klaus says.

Klaus and Elijah stare at each other in concern while Rosalind rubs her temples.

Klaus stares at the invitation while he stands on the balcony overlooking the French Quarter. He eventually turns to head back into his bedroom, where Rosalind is laying flat on Klaus' bed.

"How come I had amazing adopted parents, while you had such freaks as yours?!" Rosalind asks looking at the ceiling.

"We have enough enemies here. And now, the war for our home is to be fought against my own family" Klaus says.

"Your wretched mother and her disciples tried to put a carving knife through our babies' heart. I will happily add to the body count" she says.

Klaus smiles at Rosalind as Elijah enters the room.

"You will do no such thing. Esther's a master in the art of possession. We know whose body she currently inhabits. We must decipher her intentions before she finds a new host" Elijah says.

"Well, her last invitation was an assassination attempt on all her children. I think we can assume her intentions are decidedly foul" Klaus says.

"Well, then. We have..." He checks his watch "...this afternoon to prepare for the worst" the older Mikaelson says.

Elijah leaves. Rosalind rolls her eyes, which makes Klaus smile.

"Please, tell me we're killing your parents and this time, forever" Rosalind says and groaned.

"That's the plan, my love" he says sitting besides her.

Rosalind hums and turns her head to find him already staring at her.

She raises an eyebrow at him.

"Did you lose something on my face?" she asks playfully.

He smirks and discretely leans closer.

"Well...maybe..." he pretends to think "...my heart...my senses..."

She scoffs and laughs throwing her head back.

"This is so clingy" she says through her laugh and it's only when she realizes how close they were.

She gulps and her eyes unconsciously fell to his lips. Maybe it was because of her new heightened senses, maybe because of the lack of sex this past few months...maybe both...

When he starts to lean towards her, she just glances at his lips and allows herself to play along with him.

Who could blame her?!

Seeing her not backing away, he cupped her face in his hands and closed the space between them feeling the sparks running freely.

It's been a while since the last time they were actually this intimate, but it was just like they remembered. Amazing.

Before Rosalind could even realize what was happening, she found herself being laid at Klaus' bed with him hovering over her. Even if she tried to deny it, the feeling of his soft lips against hers, his hands running all over her body, his entire being pressed against her certainty burns something inside her.

As for Klaus, there aren't enough words to describe the feeling inside him every time he's close to Rosalind, let alone kissing her. Everything about her feels right to him, something he craves, deeply.

Leaving her plump lips, he starts to kiss her jaw, while holding her waist tightly with one hand and the other brushing his fingers along her perfect blonde hair. Soon reaching her neck, feeling her scent and probably leaving marks if she hadn't vampire healing. When the first soft moan left her mouth, something flipped inside him. Not wasting more time, he unbottoned her shirt revealing a black laced bra, causing his eyes to darken immediately.

As he starts to kiss along her neck, and making his way towards the valley of her breasts, she had to bite her lower lip to prevent a loud moan to escape her mouth. Super vampire hearing is sucks sometimes.

She intertwined her fingers at his soft hair in the back of his neck and brought him up again, starting another heated kiss, while her hands traveled their ways down his chest reaching for his belt before intertwining her legs on his waist, pressing him against her more.

As much as they were enjoying this very moment a lot, something had to come up to interrupt them, of course.

The make out and almost hot-hybrid-sex session was suddenly and rudely interrupted by both of their phone ringing loudly and startling them.

If it only depended on Klaus, whoever was calling them would have to wait until they were over with themselves, but at the moment they were living, Rosalind was too worried about what they were facing to ignore a call. Groaning she tries to push Klaus off her so she can take her phone and answer it. Tried.

"Come on" she groaned struggling to get free of him "I need to see who's calling"

He shook his head against her neck.

"No" he answers and continues his attack at her neck.

She starts to get lost on their bubble of kisses, but even against her own desires, she knew this has to stop. Using all her strength she flipped them over and was now straddling him.

"It must be important and right now we are in no position to ignore informations that might help us to defeat your bitch mother and psychotic father" she says close to his lips.

She laughs feeling his hands traveling along her thighs, stopping at her ass, holding her in place.

"Stop this" she tries to stand up but obviously he didn't let her.

"And our needs are not important?" he asks smirking.

She scoffs at his choice of words.

"It is more than important for us to have some release" he whispers close to her mouth "especially when we're face to face with our mortal enemies"

She leans over him and before their lips could touch, she says.

"Maybe later we can talk about...release" she whispers "but for now we must get going. We have a crazy witch bitch to kill and this time, for real"

She stands up from his lap and puts her shirt back on, before grabbing her phone and seeing missed calls and messages from Hayley.

He whines at their interruption and loss of contact, before standing up and adjusting his clothes as well. He couldn't help but stare at her as she bites her lower lip while looking at the messages on her phone.

Approaching her, he wraps his arms around her waist and rests his head at her shoulder, seeing who was texting her.

Bloody bloody Hayley, he thought to himself.

Rosalind turns around still in his arms.

"I have to talk to my sister and you should get ready to this..." she trailed off "...wonderful family reunion" she says sarcastically and he chuckled.

"I would rather spend my day with you, in this very room..." he starts to lean towards her "...in that bed..."

She laughs freeing herself from his hold. Rosalind knew that if she let herself to fall for his charm, they wouldn't leave this room for the next days and right now their fight was for Hope and Theodore.

"I'll see you later" she says walking over the door, but before she could walks away, Rosalind turns around smirking "I think you should..." she gestures to his pants, which much to her amusement had a new volume "...take care of it before you leave the room"

He growled at her and she snickered.

"I'd like to help you though, but you know, busy schedule" she smiles in fake innocence "maybe if you try to make an appointment"

Klaus clenched his jaw and huffs looking at her with annoyance and a light blush on his cheeks.

Rosalind blew him a flying kiss before speeding away when she saw him taking a threatening step in her direction.

When she was out of sight, Klaus let out a breath of annoyance, but couldn't help the smile forming on his lips. That's her effect on everyone. Happiness.

"That woman will be the death of me" he mutters to himself before going to sort things out.

~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~

After checking on Hayley and the pack at the Bayou, Rosalind returned to the compound to find Klaus in the dining room, where he is making arrangements for the evening's dinner with a group of compelled caterers. One of the caterers gives him a choice of two different bottles of wine.

"Skip the salad course. Let's not make this dreadful evening any longer than it needs to be" he says.

Klaus chooses a wine and dismisses the caterer just as Rosalind enters the dining room.

"So, I guess letting Oliver live paid off. He just informed me your mother has a partner-in-crime...another witch" she says.

"Building alliances in her quest to destroy us, I imagine" he says.

"I just can't put in my mind that she had six kids and still tried to kill them" she sighs "I'd thought maybe she had some maternally sense, but it doesn't seems like"

"Seven" he corrected her "one died before I was born"

She was get out off guard at this new information, but then she remembered what Rebekah said about a plague that took the life of one of Esther's children.

"Yeah" she whispers then shook her head "I mean, I know, Rebekah told me once"

He glances at her over his shoulder.

"I think at one time, she loved us very much" he muttered.

Klaus, overwhelmed by the topic of conversation, turns away and anxiously begins folding napkins on the table before speaking again.

She walks over him, standing side by side.

"I'm sorry" she starts "I didn't mean to sound insensitive. I do believe in her love for you and your siblings, on the contrary she wouldn't have turned you all in hopes to protection"

"Perhaps the loss of another child pushed my mother over the edge. So, she used her magic to turn us into immortals. I think that's when she loved us the most. But, it was her undoing. It triggered a sequence of events that led to the reveal of her long-held secret. My birth father was the werewolf whose pack killed my little brother. Of course, when Mikael found out, he murdered my real father, and so, my mother lost her lover, too" Klaus says and she gulps.

"Wow. No wonder she's crazy. I'm out of my mind having just given away Hope and Theodore. I can't imagine if they'd actually died" she says.

"You know, my siblings used to tell each other she didn't hate us...she hated herself for what we've become. I think they believed that even after she tried to kill us all" he says with his eyes tearing up.

She takes his hand on hers.

"What did you believe?" she asks softly.

"I don't know. I just knew I wanted her dead" he says fixing his eyes on her.

The two stare at each other for a long moment.

"Well, every good story needs a wicked witch" She winks at him with a small smile to cheer him up.

He laughs and shook his head. Only her would be able to replace this emptiness inside him with joy.

"It'll be all the more satisfying when we melt her" she says confidently and squeezed his hand.

Klaus brought their hands up and kisses her knuckles affectionately, smiling at her.

"Thank you, my love" he says and she frowns.

"For what?" she asks.

"For being here. For warms my heart with every single word that comes out of your beautiful mouth" he says softly.

Without thinking too much, she just brought him into a hug, caressing the back of his neck feeling his arms wrapping around her waist tightly and a hum of approval escaping his lips.

...Algiers...

Gia and Elijah are on their way to see Lenore while Gia unsuccessfully tries to make conversation with him.

"So, you're not much of a talker, huh?" Elijah just looks at her blankly "No problem. Last guy I hung out with, he wouldn't shut up, so...guess I'm due for a change..."

"The task is to lead me to someone. Let's just...do that, shall we?" He cuts her off.

Elijah walks in front of Gia, and Gia, unimpressed, rushes to catch up.

"You wanna walk in silence? Cool" She sighs in frustration "But, you're going the wrong way"

Elijah, visibly annoyed, stops in his tracks and turns back toward her.

"Marcel believes I can instruct you. First lesson...do your best not to waste my time" he says.

Gia glares at him and turns in the opposite direction as she leads Elijah toward Lenore's shop.

...Marcel's Loft...

Marcel is pouring a drink for himself at his bar when Klaus arrives.

"Let me guess, you need a favor?" Marcel asks.

"I'm paying this one, I promise. There was a necklace I gave you a long time ago. It was a leather strap with a metal bird on the end" Klaus says.

Marcel turns toward a nearby shelf and grabs a small wooden box.

"Yeah, you gave it to me when I turned eleven" Marcel says.

"You remember?" The Original Hybrid asks impressed.

Marcel walks toward Klaus with the small box in his hands and opens it in front of him, revealing the necklace in question.

"Mikael's back, Elijah's babbling on about family drama, and you're here looking for antique jewelry" Marcel says.

Marcel holds out the open box to Klaus, who takes the necklace inside it. The sight of it transports him to another flashback to his childhood.

...Mikaelson Compound...

Rosalind is updating Klaus and Elijah on what she knows.

"Marcel's witch is being held captive in the Quarter" she says.

"Oh, perfect. Mother's a step ahead, as usual" he says sarcastically.

"Oliver's with her. I'll go, and I'll get her to do the spell. But, I need the necklace" she says.

"No, you won't" Klaus shook his head.

"I don't like this whatso..." Elijah starts at the same time as Klaus, but she cuts him off sternly.

"No. You don't get to ignore me for days and then suddenly act like you're concerned, Elijah. Just, for once, please, will you trust me that I'll do something and it will get done?" she crosses her arms a little overwhelmed and turns to Klaus "I know the risks but right now, I'm the only one who can put it up together" he hesitates a little "For our children"

He stares at her for a while before nodding his head and pulling the necklace out of his pocket and hading it to her, before kissing her hand.

Elijah looks as though he's about to speak, but shuts his mouth at the last moment.

"Thank you" she says to Klaus and glances one last time at Elijah before preparing herself to leave.

"Wait" Elijah calls out for her.

"Not now" she turns around.

"No, there's something else. A disciple of Marcel's was instructed to fetch another ingredient. Ask for Gia" he says and she nods.

"Okay" she says.

Rosalind leaves. Once she's gone, Klaus walks toward Elijah.

"Well" Klaus smirks "That was definitely something"

Elijah rolls his eyes.

"Niklaus" he says "You'd please?!"

"I do not appreciate the way you've been acting towards her" Klaus says "but I'd be lying if I tell you I don't find it pleasant that you've stopped trying to gain her attention"

Elijah sighs unhappy.

"She's stronger. That's all that matters" he says before walking away.

~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~

Elijah and Klaus are both wearing fancy suits and preparing for dinner with their mother in the dining room.

"Are these outfits really necessary?" Klaus asks annoyed.

"Appearance is a way of showing respect, Niklaus. Mother will be more likely to surrender her true intentions" Elijah says.

"Well, I doubt her guard will drop just 'cause I'm dressed like a bloody lawyer" Klaus says.

"We need every advantage we can get, Niklaus" Elijah says.

"You always did excel in diplomacy. Just know, if she tries anything, I'll tear her new body to pieces" Klaus says.

Vincent/Finn enters the room and laughs dramatically at their conversation.

"You two haven't changed a bit!" He looks at Elijah "Linens and silk to disguise your pathetic self-loathing" He then turns to Klaus "And you...despite the arrogant façade, you're still the same paranoid little boy, full of hate and fear"

Klaus' face turns from amused to offended. Elijah looks at him in confusion before turning to Vincent/Finn and walking toward him.

"Forgive me, I don't believe I've had the pleasure" Elijah says in a polite tone.

"Oh, you mean you don't recognize me? So much for the unbreakable bonds of family, huh? Always and forever indeed" Vincent/Finn mocked.

Klaus begins to scowl when he realizes what is going on, but Elijah remains confused and on edge.

"It's been a long time, Finn" Klaus says through gritted teeth.

Finn smirks and spreads his arms out wide in the typical 'Mikaelson man' stance.

"Now that the introductions are out of the way, let's eat!" Vincent/Finn smirks.

...Lafayette Cemetery...

Oliver is laying unconscious on the floor of the crypt, where Lenore is checking him over. The hourglass is now almost half-empty.

"He'll be okay, I promise" Rosalind reassured her.

"What's your dog in this fight? You're not a Mikaelson" she says.

"I sort of am...in spirit" Rosalind hesitates a little.

"The werewolf mother?" The witch's eyes widened.

"Turned witch-rescuer, apparently. Listen, can we do this spell, or not?" Rosalind asks.

"After what that bitch and her lackey did to me? I'll do any spell that you want!" The witch says.

Lenore walks out of the crypt, and Rosalind follows behind her.

...Mikaelson Compound...

Elijah and Klaus are still having dinner with Finn in the dining room.

"I'm rather enjoying my evening" Vincent/Finn says.

"Well, I'd rather enjoy you getting to the point" Klaus says.

"I had nine hundred years to learn to be patient. Although, I am curious why you kept me daggered in a box for so long" Vincent/Finn asks.

"You were daggered for being an ever-simpering sycophant. Did Mother bring you back from the dead so you could wash her knickers?" Klaus asks.

Klaus smirks at Finn in amusement, but Finn begins to lose his temper.

"She raised me because I was treated unfairly! Cheated of all but the smallest portion of my life!" Vincent/Finn shouts.

Finn turns to Elijah, looking upset.

"Elijah, I can understand such cruelty coming from him" He points to Klaus "But I always thought of you as being the compassionate one! What did I do to deserve you turning your back on me? Were you afraid of Niklaus? Are you still?" Vincent/Finn asks.

Elijah, unamused by Finn's words, remains silent.

"Or perhaps jealousy is what kept me locked in a box? You coveted the duties of the eldest brother, in which case you had near-on a millennium to fix the problems of this family, and instead, produced nine centuries of failure" he continues.

Finn realizes his anger has gotten the best of him and pinches the bridge of his nose with his thumb and stops himself from further exposing his feelings to his brothers. After a moment, Elijah breaks his silence.

"You might reside...somewhat parasitically, I might add...in another body, but I assure you, in nine hundred years, your tedious sentiments remain quite the same. You see, Finn, like Father, you've always despised our supernatural existence. Father, of course, slaughtered and consumed his own, whereas you became pretentious and dull...much like this meal. I will not ask you again...where is Mother?" Elijah asks.

In the background, Klaus is giggling at Elijah's insults. Suddenly, Cassie/Esther arrives.

"Oh, my darling son" Esther says to Elijah.

Finn immediately rises to his feet to greet his mother.

"I've missed you, too" she says sarcastically.

The Mikaelson family dinner continues on while Klaus questions their mother.

"Why don't you say what you came here to say, so this wretched night can end?" Klaus asks annoyed.

"It pains me that you and Elijah look at me with such disdain. I wish you could see that my every action has been to protect you!" Cassie/Esther says.

"You actually believe that, don't you? I knew you were a liar, but now I see you're utterly delusional" Klaus says incredulously.

"If you can forget the hatred that you cling to and remember all the times I've mended and healed you" Cassie/Esther says.

Klaus laughs sarcastically, but Esther turns to Elijah.

"Elijah, do you recall the day Niklaus challenged your father to a duel? Did I leave your brother to die alone? What did I say, when you came to me and asked me to help him?" she asks.

"That you would rather die than to see any of your children suffer" he answers.

...FLASHBACK, LATE 10TH CENTURY...

Klaus is older, now, and his pained cries can be heard throughout the forest. Esther rushes toward the sound of his voice until she finds him. He's pinned to a tree with Mikael's sword, which has impaled him through the shoulder.

"Tell me what happened!" Esther asks worried.

"I challenged him" Klaus gasps in pain.

Esther begins applying pressure to Klaus' shoulder.

"What were you thinking?" she asks.

"I thought if I could just beat him, just once, he would see that I am worthy" he replies weakly.

"You need to hold still!" she panicked.

She grabs the handle of the swords, and though she struggles, she eventually removes the sword from his shoulder. She then drops it onto the ground and immediately begins pulling bundles of moss from the tree, which she uses as a rudimentary bandage for his wounds.

"AAHHHHH!" he yells in pain.

"Niklaus, calm down! Everything is going to be fine" she says.

"He laughed at my challenge. He said he would take this from me..." He holds up his starling necklace "...as a prize, after defeating me" Esther gulps anxiously, worried about what comes next "We began to fight, and he knocked me down. He cut the bird from my neck, and I grew so angry, I hit him. Again, and again. I cut him!"

"What happened next?" Esther asks terrified.

"The look on his face, I'd never seen it before. And I was so proud. Mother, I held this up..." He holds up the necklace "...to show him I kept my prize. And then, he...Why would he...?"

"Your father, in his rage, struck you with his sword?" She asks.

"I wouldn't let him take this from me. It was your gift to me!" He says.

"You're a good boy, Niklaus. You did the right thing" she whispers to him.

...PRESENT DAY, MIKAELSON COMPOUND...

Klaus returns from his flashback and comes to a sudden realization.

"The necklace" he says horrified.

...FLASHBACK - THE NEW WORLD, 10TH CENTURY...

Klaus flashes back to when Esther first made the necklace. Right before she called Klaus into the room, she cast a spell upon it.

"Onon de es sinj unctas, on gu ol de" she chants.

...PRESENT DAY, MIKAELSON COMPOUND...

Klaus is glaring at Esther furiously when he realizes what she did to the necklace.

"It wasn't spelled to protect me. It made me weak" he shouts.

"I sought to protect you from yourself! If you had killed your father in that duel, or anyone else in the course of your life, you would have activated your curse!" she tries to explains.

Klaus angrily slams his hand down on the table.

"You ruined me! You left me to suffer at the hands of a father who valued only strength!" he continues to shout.

"I kept you from becoming a beast for as long as I possibly could!" she says looking guilty.

Klaus' voice raises even more, and he slams his head against the table once again before he rises to his feet.

"Oh, you lied to me! To hide your own transgressions because of your own fear! My whole life, I sought the approval I was denied by the man I thought was my father! You turned me into the weakling he hated" Klaus shouts in pure rage.

Elijah rises to his feet and paces anxiously, while Esther gulps and looks guilty under Klaus' furious glare, unable to look him in the eyes.

"Look at me! You rant and you rave about the monster I have become, but you, Mother...you are the author of everything I am" Klaus says.

Esther looks flustered, and suddenly begins gasping for breath. Finn looks mildly alarmed as Cassie/Esther faints and slumps over in her seat. Elijah manages to catch her before her head hits the table, and he looks at his brothers in shock.

...Lenore's Shop...

Lenore finishes her spell and falls forward, leaning against the cauldron to keep her from falling onto the table. Rosalind looks at her in concern as Lenore comes to and looks around the room in confusion.

"...Are you okay?" Rosalind asks worried.

"Yes" Lenore answers.

Rosalind stands to her feet and walks toward her.

"You sure..." Rosalind continues unsure.

Lenore, still leaning against the cauldron, summons her strength and manages to stand up straight as she looks around the room.

"Just getting my bearings..." Lenore says quietly.

When Lenore lifts her hand from the rim of the cauldron, Rosalind notices a brand on the back of Lenore's right hand in the shape of a triskelion. The sight of the brand, after being told by Lenore that it is part of the soul-branding spell, startles Rosalind so much that she reflexively jumps backwards away from her and yelps in horror. Lenore/Esther looks at her in confusion.

"The mark..." Rosalind whispers.

Esther looks down and takes in her new  body.

"It's you, isn't it? Esther" Rosalind asks breathlessly.

Lenore/Esther smirks in amusement at Rosalind's quick thinking.

"Always a smart girl, child" the witch smirks.

~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~

Rosalind's phone rings in her pocket, and she pulls it out to check it as Lenore/Esther washes the snake's blood from her hands. Rosalind anxiously looks over at Esther, who nods in encouragement.

"Go ahead. You can answer it" Lenore/Esther says.

Rosalind quickly answers the phone and instantly begins to speak to Klaus, who is still at the compound.

"Nik? Elijah? I'm at Lenore's shop..." Rosalind was cut off.

Esther thrusts her arm forward and uses her magic to kill Rosalind's phone.

"That'll be enough!" Lenore/Esther says.

A scared and angrily Rosalind glares at Esther.

"They're gonna come for me" she snaps.

"My darling, that's been the idea all along" Lenore/Esther smirks.

...Mikaelson Compound...

Klaus and Elijah are determinedly rushing out of the house so they can go rescue Rosalind.

"Why would she want Rosie?" Elijah asks worriedly.

"To kill her? To punish us? To learn the truth about our children? For one of any number of reasons, all of which will be rendered moot when I send her screaming back to hell" Klaus says fuming in anger due the fact that his mother was attempting to hurt his love.

...Lenore's Shop...

Lenore/Esther and Rosalind are still waiting for Elijah and Klaus to arrive.

"It's so lovely to see you again. Tell me, do my sons ever acknowledge the good you bring into their lives? After all, it was you who gave them hope" Lenore/Esther says.

Rosalind not knowing if she meant 'hope' or 'Hope' her daughter, looks at her suspiciously.

'Well, she didn't mention Theodore, so hopefully she doesn't know' Rosalind thought to herself.

"The promise of a child shows us all the possibilities of a future that could be. Children are meant to save us from the worst parts of who we are. A truth that makes my own circumstances all the more tragic, wouldn't you say?" she continues.

"You tried to kill your own children" Rosalind snaps "And you want me to feel pity for you?!" she scoffs.

Esther looks as though she is offended for a brief moment before shrugging it off.

"It's a terrible thing, for a mother to fail her child, even more children" Lenore/Esther says.

She sees the starling necklace still laying over the cauldron and picks it up so she can look at it closely.

"As you well know" Rosalind looks guilty "But now, I offer you freedom. The gift of a new body. Freedom from being a hybrid"

Rosalind raises an eyebrow at her suddenly speech and waits for her to continue.

"I have the ability to return to you all that you have lost, Rosalind. To make it so that you could have a family of your own" She smiles "More children of your own. Wouldn't that be nice?"

Rosalind was caught of guard at this sensitive topic.

Klaus and Elijah finally arrive and interrupt their conversation. When Klaus sees Rosalind standing in front of Esther, he rushes toward her and grabs her by the waist, pulling her behind him.

"I assume you've had the misfortune of speaking to my mother, my love?" Klaus asks while checking her out.

Esther picks up a handful of an unidentified powdery substance and throws it towards Klaus, creating a magical barrier to keep him from coming any closer to her.

"You hide behind your spells like a coward!" Klaus says annoyed.

"I did not come here to wage war!" Lenore/Esther says.

Esther picks up another handful of the substance and throws it sideways toward Elijah, who had just tried to run toward her from behind to catch her off-guard, preventing him from coming any closer as well.

"Everything you do is an act of war. If you touch her, so help me..." Elijah's threat was cut off.

"Dear Rosalind is free to go. I've spoken my piece, she knows why I'm here. I have come to heal our family, Elijah" Lenore/Esther says.

"Well, that's a grand sentiment, coming from you" He turns back to Rosalind "Go. Now, my love"

As Rosalind turns to leave, Esther threateningly explodes a light bulb with magic.

"My intent was never to harm! Only to heal, as I have already healed your brothers Finn and Kol. For you, I will undo everything that has been done, thereby giving you a new life!" Lenore/Esther says.

Another light bulb explodes overhead, and Lenore stares intensely at her two sons.

"One without the vampire curse I inflicted upon you" she continues.

Esther starts waving her hand above a cauldron, and the earth begins to shake, rattling all of the inventory on the shelves of the store.

"Ask Rosalind to share with you my loving proposition" she finishes.

"You're a fool if you think we'll accept anything that you offer!" Klaus shouts.

"Oh, you are wrong, Niklaus!" The witch smirks.

The earth continues to rumble below them as more light bulbs explode, and Esther holds her arms open wide.

"There will come a time, my darlings, that you will beg for it!" she says.

The glass in the windows shatters inward, and Klaus and Elijah raise their arms over their faces to shield them from the broken glass. Esther lifts her arms over her head as hundreds of starlings burst their way through the windows and descend upon the store.

...Mikaelson Compound...

Elijah, Klaus, and Rosalind are in the courtyard, processing all that they've learned this evening from Esther.

"Of course she used those damn birds to make her offer!" Klaus says.

"Besides the offer of rebirth, what else did she say?" Elijah asks a troubled Rosalind.

"I don't know. She rambled a lot. She blamed the two of you for what happened to the twins, to me..." she trailed off.

Klaus instantly appalled by this response and stops his pacing so he can stare Rosalind in the eyes.

"Well, I hope you're not thinking of taking her offer?" Klaus asks.

Rosalind, looking guilty and a little annoyed can't bring herself to look at either of them.

"ROSIE!" Klaus yells "I'm talking to you!"

Oh boy, he did not scream at her...

Finally, overwhelmed and feeling defensive, Rosalind stands to her feet and stares Klaus in the eye.

"What do you want me to say, hm? I lost my children. So, yeah, when your mother offers to wipe the slate clean, excuse me if I'm tempted or even think about it for a moment. I am sorry that I didn't live up to your high expectations about my decisions" She turns to Elijah "By the way, thanks for your help tonight, Elijah. I'm sorry that it takes me being in danger for you to even talk to me. It's always nice to count with your friendship"

Rosalind storms off, leaving the two brothers speechless. As both of them were about to follow her, she shouts still walking away.

"Don't you dare to come near me right now!" she shouts sternly and speeds to her bedroom before slamming the door shut.

After a moment of silence, Klaus speaks.

"Our mother, Elijah...the woman who brought us into the world, made us what we are...and the whole time, she lied to me! She made me weak" Klaus says.

"You were never weak, Niklaus. You are...you have always been...the most fierce of us all. In a thousand years, I have never seen anyone successfully stand against you. Not even our wicked father. Not one of the countless devoted to your destruction. You'll protect our home, even in the face of an adversary such as our mother, because that, brother...that is what you do" Elijah says smiling sympathetically.

Klaus seems both surprised and grateful for Elijah's response, and he grips Elijah's shoulder in a gesture of thanks.

"You remain ever the wise counsel, brother. The rest of the family could learn something from you" Klaus says, thankful by his support.

Elijah seems shocked at this kindness as Klaus leaves the room.

...Closing Montage...

Vincent/Finn and Lenore/Esther are having a heated discussion in the greenhouse, where Esther opens a cage that holds two starlings.

"Now, you must have known they wouldn't give in without a fight" he says.

"Of course! Tonight was not an ultimatum, it was an invitation. I just want to get them thinking. After all, only those who know they are lost will ask to be found" she explains.

"They're defiant by nature, and they've grown very strong. How do you expect to show them the error of their ways?" he asks.

"I will systematically destroy everything they hold dear" she says smirking.

...Mikaelson Compound...

Klaus sits alone in the courtyard while Esther continues to speak in voiceover.

[voiceover] "I've already taken the wolves from Niklaus and made them our own. It is time, now, to focus on the prodigal son, Marcel, and his small nest of vampires across the river" she says.

...Marcel's Loft...

Marcel has handed Gia a drink and introduced her to her fellow vampires.

[voiceover] "Now that we have cleansed the Quarter of his kind, perhaps it's time to turn our attention to the outskirts of our beautiful home. We will take their pride, their joy, their love" Lenore/Esther continues.

...Mikaelson Compound...

Rosalind sits quietly in her bedroom. She looks over to see the empty rocking chair in the nursery and becomes sad, hugging a plush wolf close to her chest, letting a single tear fall from her left eye.

[voiceover] "We will lay it all to ruin" Lenore/Esther says.

Elijah has just returned and joined Klaus in the courtyard.

[voiceover] "And, when they are at their lowest point, in their deepest despair, they will have no choice but to beg me to release them from their pain" She smirks "And, because I love them, I will"
