Elizabeth's POV

Falling onto the cold ground, I was jolted from my sleep. I looked around in a sleepy daze and realised the Sun was already half gone, the sky entering into hues of orange, purple and pink.

Slurping sounds came from the bed as Rafael was drinking his tea, watching me make a fool out of myself. "Good evening, Piccolo." The Valentine prince flashed a smile at me in amusement.

"Thanks for helping me up," I greeted, picking up the files on the ground. I was reading up the investigation done on the carnival and Cody's poisoning during the Dove's rising. With a new suspect in my head, I tried for a different perspective on these two incidents.

We were looking out for someone suspicious in both incidents and  naturally didn't consider people who were supposed to be there, or those who had an alibi. What if the offender had used this as his cover?

Simon Collins was present in both incidents and right next to Cody. He may be Cody's most trusted captain but he's also working for Jessica Gold. Under Castello orders or not, I feel that something's amiss with him.

"Any news from my Paps?" Rafael queried, swirling his tea. Rafael doesn't know about the bounty placed on Jessica Gold yet. No one wanted to tell him, in case he goes nuts. I threw a sheepish smile in his direction, shaking my head.

Rafael think we are nuts for keeping him prisoner here. His exact words are "I'll be proven innocent. Just wait you bunch of metal institution residents." Nonetheless, he cooperated with us. After all, the heir to the Valentine family has lost his title and has nowhere to go.

He has been himself since he was admitted into the private ward. Other than not remembering anything about attacking Angelo or me, Rafael is the old Rafael that I know of. However, it would be a different story if he knew what the two families are planning to do to his beloved.

Angelo had kept his poker face upon hearing the news. However his tensed up body gave him away as his girlfriend is now hunted by two of the biggest Mafia family. "Are you sure?" I turned to Julian. Our phones buzzed as Julian sent us the relevant e-documents.

My eyes widened at the reward for the one who can bring her head to the Valentine or Mietitore family. Two million dollars. If I killed her, most of the debt I owe Angelo would be gone. This is my ticket to getting out of this trap.

Jessica Gold may not deserve to die but throw this bounty on, I'm willing to take the job. Like I said before, we are all bad guys with rotten morals. And I am no different. I didn't dare to look up at the Mietitore prince, because the strong desire I have to take on the job would be exposed immediately. Then, I will look like a monster in his eyes.

"Do we tell Sir Rafael?" Julian glanced at the sleeping prince, worry colouring his hazel eyes. I bit my lips, totally forgetting about Rafael back there. He would be devastated if his friends killed her. It will a trauma that's impossible to heal from. He'll see the Mietitores as his enemies. And then the Castellos would get what they want, won't they? So, we can't kill her.

"Where's Jessica?" Angelo posed, walking to the windows, pondering. "At the safe house as per your instructions, Sir." Julian answered.

The platinum blonde who knows his best friend the most, was trying to stop the two families from trying to do irreversible damage.

"Julian will be here any minute now, tiger." I informed the Valentine prince who was scrolling through his phone, opting to call him by the nickname the Mafia world has given him. I felt guilty calling him Raf, the more endearing term. Last night, Angelo had ordered me to hack into his phone to check the messages Jessica has sent him. Also, he had me code a programme to intercept Rafael's messages and calls.
