Bon Appetit! :D

Elizabeth's POV

Angelo Mietitore did not stomp out of the silver Maserati like I thought he would.

He remained seated in the car and with one glance at the rear-view mirror, he had Julian leaving the car. We were in the backseat, sitting far away from each other. Fearing that we would just end up fighting, I unbuckled my seatbelt to get off from the vehicle. "Don't!" Angelo shouted, grasping my hand in his. We both stared at our connected hands before he threw my hand away like it was an explosive. "Stay, please." He mumbled, his eyes looking anywhere but me.

Not believing my own ears, I broke into a half-grin, "What?" The Mietitore prince opened his mouth to repeat his words but he caught my grin at the last second and he narrowed his eyes. "I'll only say it once, Elizabeth." I chuckled and slumped against the car seat, looking out of the tinted windows. The past few times that we were in the same space, only widened the gap between us.

Jessica Gold spent more of Angelo's time but no, she is not the reason why we fought or ended things harshly every time we were in the same room.

Something has changed in him since the night at Rebirth. He became cold and rude, distancing himself from me. Tonight, a little of the old Angelo came back. I peeked at him, wondering what has brought on the change. I had gotten used to the Angelo Mietitore that belongs to the rumours, cold-hearted and vicious. He should stay this way to draw the line between us, the line that should exist between an employer and an employee.

An end to this one-sided crush.

"Where have you been, Elizabeth?" Angelo queried, calmed. With the Oracle by his side, the prince was asking what he already knew. "Enjoying the winter holiday." I gave a generic answer, still looking at the view. I could feel Angelo setting his eyes on me, burning a hole through my face. Finally, I could not resist him anymore and said, "Seriously." My heart picks up speed upon seeing him up close, his icy blue eyes twinkling under the moonlight.

Biting my lower lip, I blinked away from his intense stare. "Do you know that the governor has announced the date for the Crossing?" I nodded and popped my knuckles. Among all the news I have received, Julian's text and the Crossing's date stood out from the rest.

I am going to meet the man who has taken so many people from me, in two weeks' time. The governor will stay in the Hollow for sixteen days before he will be gone for another year. Something like the twelve days of Christmas. Except this Santa is the baddest boy on the list.

The Mietitore prince took hold of my clenched fists and forcefully unraveled them. Small electric jolts shoot up my hand as he held my hand in his much larger ones. I mentally mocked myself at how much influence I let him have over me, to be affected by such a small gesture.

I thought time and distance would burn out the illegal feelings I have for the Mietitore prince. But they only made me miss him more, the multi-faceted Angelo Mietitore. Fifty percent broodingly aloof, fifty percent irritatingly arrogant and a hundred percent sexily charming. The math is off. I think. Whatever, that's what calculators are for and this, is the golden ratio for my perfect cup of coffee.

"Elizabeth, don't do anything foolish." He squeezed my hands tightly but I still refused to look at him. Imagine if you look at him directly, Elizabeth. You will combust on the spot like fireworks in the sky.

A sigh escaped me. "I can't even if I'm dying to do so, boss." I detest the idea of having my enemy standing right there but I could not touch a single strand of hair on him. It's like putting a crispy fried chicken on the table and forbidding me from eating it. A sinful act that deserves the lowest pits of hell.
