Chapter 37 - A Country's Resolve

Every news network on Cardonia has their cameras set on the Reliance as she enters the harbor of Cleos. Everyone has their eyes glued on their TV screens.

*The R-Class Frigate, Reliance is the lead ship of the class. She and her sister the Retribution and the replenishment the Motivate are on a diplomatic cruise towards the Central continent. But as you can see the ship came under attack. 25 crew members including Captain Charle Vindrel and the renowned Rear Admiral Jhosep Brandinco were killed in action. It has been 75 years when the last time high ranking navy officials were killed in action.*

This are the lines that were broadcasted throughout the whole country. The ship instantly became the symbol of Cardonian pursuit of peace in this world. The very symbol of peace that was easily trampled upon.

The deaths of the Rear Admiral and the Captain were sensationalized by the media, and the people could only take so much. Many are now pushing for the dissolution of Cardonia's pacifist views in the name of national security.

The Reliance after much inspection were taken on dry dock and will undergo massive repairs and her first refit.

A wreath laying ceremony were held by the King himself, the ceremony were set alongside the Reliance, already in drydock. The bereaved families were their to received the awards of their perished loved ones.

All of those who perished were awarded with a Distinguished Valor medal. Because of their actions, the Rear Admiral and the Captain that perished were awarded with the Honor Star. It is the highest military decoration in the Cardonian Armed Forces.

The ship, Reliance, received her first battle star, it's a blue star with gold rim that is traditionally attached just below the bridge windows in view of everyone. She also received the Royal Citation for her combat prowess. The crew were also awarded with different medals in accordance on their combat action.

A massive protest organized by the families of the bereaved swept throughout the Capital city, they are rallying for a stern government action they want justice for the their beloved who have perished unjustly.

The mere fact that the ship were ambushed despite it's diplomatic mission, it means that Cardonia has the moral high ground. The Kingdom of Dyslala committed an atrocity.

But the pacifist representatives are still gunning for their ideal peace, they are hindering any offensive attacks by the military, saying that the defense of Schielde were more than enough to imply the message and they don't want a repeat of the mistakes two decades ago. But before even the Regent Prince took action, another massive protests called for the resignation of the said representatives, the peoples opinion of them hit rock bottom as they are viewed as traitors and even collaborators of the Empire as they are purposely weakening the country.

The news have also reached Azalea in which they openly denounced the actions of their neighbour and tension has risen up as it is a clear violation of their peace treaty. However the Dylaslans proclaim that it was self defense and their actions are necessary as their alliance with the Empire calls for their mutual defense.

Within a week, Cardonia was swept with massive changes in its policies. The Dylaslans were lambasting Cardonia on their statements, calling them even as barbaric. And this was the final straw for every Cardonia. The Regent then addressed the nation. 10 days since the Reliance arrived at Cleos.
