Chapter 21 - Naval Landing of Schielde Part 1

The weather was calm, the sun shines through the pristine waters off the coast of Cardonia. Six grey ships peacefully navigates the calm seas, the flotilla is steaming at a speed of 15 knots. It has only been three days since the Crown Prince was proclaimed as Regent.

The command ship of the whole task force was the R-Class frigate, the Response. She and her sistership, the Remembrance are the primary warships of the task force. Built in the late 2010's, these frigates are derivative of the MEKO-200 frigate designs of Germany, their silhouette closely resembles that of the variants of the Algerian Navy apart from the bridge being a deck higher and a different mast.

Equipped with a forward 5 inch Mk. 45 gun, a whopping 32 cell Mk.41 VLS, equipped with quad packed ESSM missiles, it packs a total 128 missiles at full load. And to top it of all, 16 anti-ship missiles could be also loaded, but the Cardonian navy has developed their own missile based on the widely successful Exocet, a land attack version could also be installed. Thus a frigate can carry two varieties of missiles on the 16 launchers. A Phalanx CIWS could be found in front of the bridge and at the top of the hangar. Triple torpedo tubes for MU-90 torpedoes, two 25mm auto-chain guns and mix of 50 cal. machine guns complete the weapon systems of the frigate class.

She and her sisters are the most deadly ships on the entire fleet of Cardonia. Experts thought they could easily battle it out against a larger destroyer. And now their fangs are pointed towards the fortress city of Schielde.

Among the task force are the Landing Ship Tank, the Region class. With a length of 120 meters, they could easily transport 700 troops, a platoon of tanks and APC's. The Coigor and Brughslav are deployed for the attack. These locally made ships are named after the 5 major regions of Cardonia.

The Pioneer also joined the task force along with a corvette. The Lilac, a Flower Class Corvette, responsible for Anti Submarine Warfare of the task force, just for good measure. Equipped with Oto Melara 76mm Rapid Gun, quadruple anti ship missiles and a 8 cell Mk.41 VLS, it's basically a smaller corvette version of the R-Class. But these ship class has more powerful hull sonar and towed array sinar systems. Making them as primary ASW assets of Navy.

The Regent is aboard the flagship, together with Princess and four of her knights as observers. Captain Lectander and some of his officers were on board one of the landing ships. They have first hand knowledge on how deep is the supposed landing site and will assist the troops in taking back the city, their knowledge will be vital. Everyone was provided a grey speckled naval battle dress uniform.

The chosen landing site is 3 kilometers away from the fortress itself. There were no other viable landing site as the coast is riddled with steep cliffs and or sharp rocks protruding the coastline. 8 landing crafts from each ships 4, would be the first wave and establish a beachhead  then the landing ships would follow.

"We need to disable the coastal cannons on the fort. There are 4 magic cannons with a range of 4 kilometers installed as primary fort defense." exclaimed Capt. Lectander as he pointed important areas on the printed map.

"So that our landing force would be within that cannon range huh" exclaimed Commander Fraiser of the Cardonian Marines.

"Our naval guns could easily take out those 'magic cannons' out, it's not a threat." replied Captain Jheune of the RCNS Lillac.

That statement of Captain Jheune rattled Captain Lectander. Those magic cannons are so expensive, that it took the Kingdom of Archesia to complete the battery only after 8 years. The magic cannons are also one of the most deadly weapons sold by larger countries, that cannons can easily take out his previous ship Crelant in a single shot. And these Cardonians are speaking that their tiny guns would easily deal with those cannons, he could only imagine that they would fail.
