CHARLOTTE'S POV

I didn't mean to snap at him like that, but I couldn't stop it. Elizabeth was the only one who had ever called me Charlie.

He probably hates me now, I thought to myself, a tear running down my face.

He had tried so hard to be helpful, and now I had ruined it. I couldn't help but cry, covering my face with my hands as I sat on the park bench. Suddenly, I felt a hand grasp my shoulder. I looked up into Paul's eyes.

"Paul, I--"

Before I could say anymore, Paul sat down next to me and embraced me into a warm hug. For some reason, this made me cry even harder.

"It's alright, Charlotte..." he cooed, running his hand up and down my back. I sobbed into his shoulder.

"Paul, I'm so sorry," I finally managed. He gave me a loving look.

"Ye have nothin' to apologize for, love."

I pulled out of his hug and looked him in the eye.

"Paul, ever since we lost Elizabeth, things...Haven't been the same," I said carefully.

"I know, love, I can see that now. I'm sorry I wasn't more aware of it."

He was acting awfully understanding, and not asking many questions. Maybe he could tell that it was something I really didn't want to get into. He stood up and held out his hand for me to grab. Facing me, he cupped my face into his big hands, giving me a kiss on the forehead.

"Why don't we go join the rest of the lads at the pub, eh love?" he asked me, a grin sneaking across his face. I couldn't help but smile back.

"Okay."
