The girls filed into the room, along with a few boys. I set down my guitar went over and sat at the piano and set up the mic before playing a few cords on it to get their attention. The room went silent as I began.
Concrete Angel by Martina McBride
"She walks to school with
The lunch she packed
Nobody knows what
She's holding backWearing the same dress
She wore yesterday
She hides the bruises with
Linen and laceOhhhh ohh
The teacher wonders
But she doesn't ask
It's hard to see the pain
Behind the maskBearing the burden of a
Secret storm
Sometimes she wishes she
Was never bornThrough the wind and the rain
She stands hard as a stone
In a world that she can't rise
AboveBut her dreams give her
Wings
And she flies to a place
Where she's lovedConcrete angel
Somebody cries in the
Middle of the night
The neighbors hear, but
They turn out the lightsA fragile soul caught in
The hands of fate
When morning comes
It'll be too lateThrough the wind and the rain
She stands hard as a stone
In a world that she can't rise
AboveBut her dreams give her
Wings
And she flies to a place
Where she's lovedConcrete angel
A statue stands
In a shaded place. . .An angel girl with
An upturned face. . .A name is written
On a polished
Rock. . .A broken heart
That the world
ForgotThrough the wind and the rain
She stands hard as a stone
In a world that she can't rise
AboveBut her dreams give her
Wings
And she flies to a place
Where she's lovedConcrete angel."
When I finished the song, I turned around and heard clapping. I stood up, bowed, and said, "Thank you."
"That was so moving! Will you please sing us another?" One girl asked.
"I don't know," I said while turning to Kyoya. He nodded. "Ok girls, and guys, one more song." I then got off the piano bench, grabbed a stool, and began to play.
Angel by Sarah McLachlan
"Spend all your
Time waiting
For that second chanceFor a break that
Will make it okThere's always some
Reason to feel not
Good enoughAnd it's hard at
The end of the dayI need some
Distraction or a
Beautiful releaseMemories seep
From my veinsLet me be empty
And weightless and maybeI'll find some
Peace tonightIn the arms of the
Angel far away from
HereFrom this dark,
Cold hotel roomAnd the endlessness
That you feelYou are pulled from
The wreckage of your
Silent reverieYou're in the arms of
The angel, may you
Find some comfort hereSo tired of the
Straight line, and
Everywhere you turnThere's vultures and
Thieves at your backThe storm keeps on
Twisting, you keep on
Building the liesThat you make up
For all that you lackIt don't make no
Difference, escape
One last timeIt's easier to
BelieveIn this sweet
Madness, oh this
Glorious sadnessThat brings me
To my kneesIn the arms of the
Angel far away from
HereFrom this dark,
Cold hotel roomAnd the endlessness
That you feelYou are pulled from
The wreckage of your
Silent reverieYou're in the arms of
The angel, may you
Find some comfort hereYou're in the arms of
The angel, may you
Find some comfort here."After I finished that one, Kyoya said that it was time for the ladies to go. They looked sad that they had to leave, but they gave me compliments on my singing.
After everyone had left, everyone came up to me and Hikaru said, "What was up with all the sad songs? And what was it that you were going to tell us?"
I sighed and said, "It's how I felt. And I need Haruhi's help, because I know she's a girl, why she's dressing up as a boy, and I'll keep it a secret." I then grabbed Haruhi's hand and dragged her to a dressing room. I took off my dress and turned so she could see my back.
I heard her gasp and say, "Oh my god!" And I knew why, for I had just shown her the whip marks. After I had her take a picture of it, I turned around so that she could see the words scarred onto the skin of my stomach. "Oh my fucking god! That son of a bitch! I'll kill him!" She shouted while taking a picture. The scars spelled out, 'Happy birthday bitch! I can't wait to kill you!'
I then pulled back on my dress and walked out. I sat on the couch and said, "Haruhi, show them the pictures." I sat there with my eyes closed as I heard cuss words left and right.
"He did this to you?!" Kyoya yelled. I flinched and curled up into a ball on impulse. Kyoya noticed his mistake and he said softly, "Leah, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to scare you! Will you please forgive me." I nodded and hugged him.
