Dal Fry [120]

INGREDIENTS :

1 bowl toor dal, pressure cooked

Other ingredients :

▶1 onion, finely chopped
▶1 tomato, finely chopped
▶2 green chilies, finely chopped
▶2-3 dry red chillies
▶few curry leaves
▶1 inch ginger, finely chopped
▶3 garlic, finely chopped
▶½ tsp mustard seeds
▶1 tsp cumin seeds / jeera
▶pinch asafoetida / hing
▶½ tsp turmeric powder
▶1 tsp red chilli powder
▶1 tsp kasuri methi / dry fenugreek leaves
▶½ tsp garam masala powder
▶2 tbsp oil or ghee
▶few coriander leaves, chopped
▶salt to taste
1 tsp lemon juice

INSTRUCTIONS - (1 cup = 255ml)

1.in a pan heat ghee and add the mustard, cumin, hing and fry them.

2.in addition, add the onions and fry till they become transparent.

3.furthermore, add the chopped ginger and garlic and fry for some seconds

4.it is now time to add the green chilli, redchilies, curry leaves and give a good mix.

5.after mixing it properly, add turmeric powder and red chilli powder. and fry for a minute.

6.finally, add the tomatoes and cook till they soften and you see oil releasing from the sides.

7.once the tomatoes are cooked, add 1 bowl of mashed toor dal.

8.to maintain the consistency, add water and salt as required.

9.stir and simmer the dal for 5-6 minutes more or till you get a smooth and slightly thick consistency.

10.lastly add crushed kasuri methi leavesand garam masala powder.

11.furthermore, add chopped coriander leaves add lemon juice.

12.finally, serve dal fry hot with steamed basmati rice, biryani rice, jeera rice or coconut milk pulao.
