After all the excitement in the Chad Whickman case, the end of the month came around. Jones left early in the morning and told Marie that he'll meet her at the station for their early morning shift. Once he got to his desk and set up his things, Jones opened one of the desk drawers, took out a wrapped present and placed it on his desk. Jones smiled at the gift and thought, she's going to love it even though her birthday was a couple weeks ago and I forgot about it until Grace told me. He then slumped his head thinking about how he couldn't tell Marie he loved her yet and he was stupid enough to forget his best friend's birthday.

Suddenly, Jones heard his name being called on the intercom signaling him that the chief was ready to give him another case. He then placed the gift back in his drawer and while he was heading to the chief's office he began thinking on how he'll give Marie her present. After a while, Marie showed up at the station and strolled over to their desks, sat down and began doing her work. Jones then showed up behind her and gave her a playful tap on the shoulder.

Marie then turned and smiled at him and Jones smiled back at her thinking he's glad to see her. Soon, his face turned serious and he said to Marie, "Looks like we have another dead body on our hands. He was found in a backstreet in Caribou Corner."

Marie then stood up in determination and said, "Well, what are we waiting for? Let's go!" And the two officers left in a hurry while Jones kept on thinking about how he was going to give Marie her present.

When they got there, Jones and Marie approached the body and Jones dug around in the body's pockets looking for an ID. Soon, he found it and the two officers saw their victim's name is Alan Cardwell. Marie then saw a passport at the victim's feet and bagged it for Alex to check when they got back. Jones also picked up a wallet and some of it's contents that fell out and bagged them so they see if there was anything hidden.

Back at the station, Marie dumped the wallet and the wallet's contents out of the bag and started to rummage through them. Suddenly, she pulled out a card for a barbershop and when Jones saw it he said, "I bet this is where Alan went before his death." And the two officers agreed to check out the barbershop for any clues on their victim.

At the barbershop, Jones got curious wondering where the barber went. He then shook the thought out of his head and soon, the two of them began looking around. Marie then went over to the trash can by the door and started to dig through the contents. After digging through the trash for a while, Marie pulled out a schedule from the day before and saw their victim's name was on it. Suddenly, Ramirez showed up at the shop and told them that the barber has arrived.

The two officers thanked Ramirez and once he left, Jones and Marie went to talk to the barber Joshua Kempe. When they were in front of him, the barber scolded, "What the hell are you doing here?! Don't search around my shop without my permission!"

Jones then got furious and said to him, "Calm down Mr. Kempe! We found your card on a dead man's body. Do you know an Alan Cardwell?"

Shocked, the barber told them that Alan was one of his best customers and he saw him the other day. Marie then asked, "Do you have anything remotely helpful to tell us?"

Kempe then explained to them that Alan had a heated argument with the Golden Boy Curtis Newman and he suggested they go and talk to him. Marie and Jones then thanked him and as Marie exited the shop, Jones went back to the barber and asked him, "By the way Mr. Kempe, what would do for someone special to you if you just missed their birthday?"

The barber then thought long and hard and he then said him, "I would give that person their present and then take them out to a nice dinner." And Jones thanked him for that piece of advice and quickly left the shop to catch up to his partner.
