A few days later after the Rosa Wolf case, Marie woke up to sunlight hitting her face. She then got out of bed and opened the curtains to a beautiful morning in the city. Once she was up and about, Marie showered, put on her robe and slippers, went into the living room to turn on the news, then went to the kitchen to open a can of food for Lucy. Once Lucy was fed, she then made breakfast for herself, consisting of two fried eggs and a couple strips of bacon.

As she was eating, Marie was listening to what the news has to offer. Some stories were about sightings of The Vipers gang, some were about what was happening in the world itself and other stories were about the local sports teams and the weather. After she was done and placed her plates in the sink, Marie went to the bathroom to dry her hair, brush it out, brush her teeth and put on her makeup. She then went to her bedroom and put on her police uniform and badge and after she was dressed, she examined herself in the mirror.

She then turned to Lucy, who came in and jumped on her bed, and asked the cat, "What do think Lucy? Do I look like I'm ready to take on the police department?" And Lucy meowed out her answer.

Suddenly, Marie heard the apartment doorbell ringing and she went over to it. As she was heading to the doorway, the person kept ringing and she called out that she was coming in just a second. Once she got to the door and opened it, on the other side Marie was surprised to see Jones standing in front of her. Marie then asked her partner in a surprised voice, "What are you doing here?"

"I decided to come and pick you up so we can go to work. My place is a few blocks away from yours so I decided to come," Jones explained with a smile.

Marie was twice as surprised that not only Jones was her partner at work, but also her neighbor too. Jones then looked down to see Lucy rubbing herself against him and he knelt down to scratch behind her ears. Marie then asked curiously, "But how did you know where I lived?"

"The chief kind of has everyone's addresses. So, he decided to give yours to everyone in the station in case you need anything from anyone," Jones said while still petting Lucy.

Marie smiled at that comment and thought that it was nice that everyone was looking out for her. Jones then stood up and asked if Marie was ready and she nodded saying she was. Marie then said her goodbyes to Lucy, locked the door and followed Jones to his car where they both got in and headed towards the station. Once they got there, both Marie and Jones stopped to see Ramirez lunging towards Jones while shouting, "I got you now Jones!" But he missed and landed on the ground.

Marie looked at Jones when the two of them started walking and asked, "Is Ramirez okay?"

"He's fine, he kind of does it to me everyday. But I just let it all slide and let him have his fun," Jones explained while descending the stairs and Marie thought, for someone who said they wanted to protect me a few days ago, he can be full of himself.

Once they were inside the office, got to their desks and turned on their computers, chief King called to Jones and Marie to his office on the loudspeaker. Once they got there, King said, "Good thing you are here, a man named Dave Simmons just called claiming to see body parts in an abandoned garden. I want you to go there and investigate."

"We're on it chief," Jones said and the two of them left to start their next case.

Once they got to the garden, they were greeted by a man with slicked back brown hair and a crooked smile because of his missing tooth and introduced himself as Dave Simmons. Simmons then said to them, "I'm glad you're here officers. I called right away as soon as I saw the hand."

"Well, you can sit tight for a while Mr. Simmons. Jones and I will look around inside for more clues," Marie explained to the man and soon the two of them headed inside the old house.
