Liddan goes into a mindless state whenever he faces a severe amount of emotional turmoil. Though this is referred to as a "berserk mode" often in the book, it's actually a huge thing involving his demon blood. Something that's unique to demon-human children, therefore it will effect the other Dragneel children later on, Liddan just began earlier for various reasons later to be explained.
