Chapter 10

Alice's P.O.V

Everyone but Paul and Linda were outside. Paul needed to discuss what happened last night with Linda. Joseph and I were in the sheep pen and Martha was running around helping us herd them. Maude and Albert were sitting on the fence while Helen was running around with the kids.

"It must be nice living on a farm" Maude said

"It is. It's peaceful, it's quiet. It's just good to be away from the public eye" I said

"How about the ranch Joseph?" Albert asked

"Well it's nothing like this. We have some horses but that's it for animals. We're not to far from town. The kids go to a great school" Joseph said

"That's always good to hear. Does Ethel like being home schooled?" Maude asked

"Yeah but she misses regular school but Helen's a good teacher. Ethel learns a lot from her" I said. I looked over at Helen. Her and the kids were in a circle playing duck duck goose.

"Well Helen is sure great with kids" Albert said

"That's why we hired her as our nanny. Helen's more than a nanny though. She's part of the family" I said. When Martha was done chasing the sheep around, she went up to Maude asking for pets.

"Martha's a lovely dog" Maude said, giving Martha pets

"She's very friendly too" Albert said

"Where'd you get Martha?" Maude asked

"When I was in America, there was a couple moving into a new apartment but they couldn't have any pets. They asked me if I'd like to take care of Martha and I agreed" I said.

"I remember that day. Laura was going crazy over Martha" Joseph said

"Who's Laura?" Albert asked

"My half-sister. We have the same dad but I consider her to be my full blood sister" I said. Maude and Albert nodded. Joseph and I finished up with our task.

"Alice, can we take a walk for a second?" Joseph asked

"Sure" I said. Joseph and I left the sheep pen, leaving Maude and Albert with Martha. Joseph and I walked towards the house.

"What is it Joseph?" I asked

"Do you know what's going on between Paul and Linda? They're acting weird around each other" Joseph said

"I'm only going to tell you this because you're Linda's husband and you two shouldn't keep secrets from each other. Knowing Linda she would've told you sooner or later" I said

"What is it?" Joseph asked

"Well, last night I was sleeping and Linda came into the bedroom. She wanted to talk to me so I got up out of bed and we went to the bathroom. There she kissed me and Paul found us. He wasn't too happy about it" I said

"That explains a lot" Joseph said

"Are you mad at Linda?" I asked

"I'm a little hurt that she still has some feelings for you. She has since high school but-" Joseph said

"What do you mean since high school?" I asked

"Do you remember Cora, Ada and Clara?" Joseph asked

"How could I not? Those snotty bitches were always making fun of me and Linda" I said

"Yeah. Well I don't know if you remember this but there was one day they were making fun of Linda more than usual. You came to the rescue and you told them off. Linda realized how much you cared for her and feelings grew" Joseph said

"Wait, how do you know this?" I asked

"Linda tells me everything" Joseph said

Paul's P.O.V

I was in the kitchen with Linda. I needed to know why she was attracted to my wife.

"Paul, I'm sorry about last night. Alice never kissed back or anything. It was all me" Linda said

"I believe you. I'm just a little hurt that you would do that. You know Alice is my wife and that I love her with all my heart. You're also one of my best friends, Linda. Friends don't do that to each other" Paul said

"I know. I know when I do that I'm also hurting Joseph when I do that. I love him so much. I don't need to be breaking his heart by kissing his ex-wife" Linda said

"Then why do you keep kissing Alice?" I said

"I guess I've always had a slight attraction to her since high school" Linda said

"High school?" I asked

"Yeah. We used to go to school with these three girls. Cora Thompson, Clara Lopez and Ada Lee. They weren't exactly the nicest trio of girls. They would constantly make fun of Alice and I. One day, I was peacefully eating my lunch when the snob trio came up to me and started making fun of me. More so than they usually did. Alice came to my rescue and she told the girls off to the point where Cora started to cry. That's when I realized how much Alice cared for me and I guess feelings grew" Linda explained

"Does Alice know that's the reason?" I asked

"No" Linda said

"Well I can see why that would make you like her so much. If she did that for me, I'd fall in love with her in an instant" I said

"Alice was a really amazing person and she still is" Linda said

"That she is. You need to promise me that you won't try to kiss her anymore" I said

"I promise. Alice and I are great best friends and that's the way it should stay between us" Linda said.

"Hug to seal the deal?" I said. Linda nodded. We hugged each other. Just then, Alice and Joseph joined us.

"Hey, look who's talking again!" Alice said

"It's good that you two finally made up" Joseph said. Linda walked over to Joseph and hugged him.

"Well best friends forgive each other, just like husbands and wives do, right?" Linda said

"If you're trying to tell me that you kissed Alice, she already told me. Don't worry, I forgive you. Just don't let it happen again" Joseph said

"I promise" Linda said. They left the kitchen leaving us alone. Alice walked over to me and grabbed my hand.

"So you and Linda talked things through?" Alice asked

"Yeah. She promised that she won't try to kiss you anymore" I said

"Good. These lips are meant to be against yours" Alice said. She leaned in and kissed me.

"I love you" I said

"I love you too" Alice said. This time, I kissed her. How did I get so lucky to have Alice as my wife? She's simply perfect.
