The members of the council that survived the attack were in the pews yelling amongst each other.
Loki, Thor and I stood in the lower circle of the chamber room.
"Silence!" Odin boomed over it all.
The room grew slowly silent and Odin looked down on me.
"What do you have to say for the attack?" He asked Loki.
"Don't ask him! He's obviously working with the dark elves to overthrow the kingdom!" Someone yelled.
"If we let him speak we might as well just pardon him now. He'll persuade us all with his silver tongue!" shouted another.
Loki stood there glaring at everyone but making no move to defend himself.
"The attack was from previous circumstances. The elves were working on behalf of someone else, as bounty hunters." I yelled up at them.
I heard Loki growl at me and when I turned back to him, he shook his head at me slightly.
"So your saying that someone more powerful then the dark elves are after the prince?" Someone shrieked from the stands.
"I'm saying that this time, he hasn't done anything wrong for him to be on trial!"
"Who cares! They're going to attack again if we don't get rid of the problem!" A man from the first row shouted.
"Not to mention that we don't know who this mystery puppet master is controlling the dark elves!" A voice chimed in.
"Your highness, the council has discussed a public execution to ensure that everyone will be aware of the princes death, ensuring the safety of all."
"What!" I gasped.
"Loki's death penalty was lifted and is no longer an option for punishment." Thor tried.
"We can move Loki somewhere else so that when they come for him, he won't be here!" I shouted up at Odin.
"And where would you suggest we send him, what people would you put in harms way to save Loki's life."
I opened my mouth to speak but flashes of New York and of monsters flying through the sky kept me from offering up earth as sanctuary.
"You can't just kill him!" I yelled balling my fists.
"Do you have anything to say for yourself?" Odin asked, directing the question his son.
"Will they attack again?"
"Yes." Loki replied as if it wasn't a damning answer.
Odin sighed and he closed his one eye.
"For the safety of the realms, I Odin allfather sentence Loki, my son to death."
Thor bowed his head but said nothing. I could hear thunder rolling in the sky and rain pelted the rooftop.
Guards walked towards us but I grabbed Loki's sword from his back and held it in front of me.
"No!"
"Anna that's enough." Loki said yanking his sword from me and dropping it on the ground.
"What are you doing?" I asked panicking.
A guard grabbed Loki and started to haul him away.
"You can't do this!" I yelled jumping at one of the guards.
I was grabbed around my waist by Thor and held back as they drug Loki away.
"Let me go! Stop!" I screamed as they led him out the door of the council room.
Thor set me down and I whirled around on him.
"They're going to kill him!" I yelled shoving the large mans chest in anger.
"It's been decided." Was all he said.
His eyes looked hollow and not like themselves but I didn't care.
"And you called your brother a coward." I snarled stomping away from him.
::
I laid in bed that night tossing and turning unable to get the picture of Loki being beheaded from my mind.
Finally when I couldn't lay any more I crept out of bed and followed my memory to the dungeons that they first held Loki. He sat against the wall with his head resting on it, eyes closed and his hands folded.
"Just like old times, huh?"
When he heard me he tilted his head up and smirked
"I've been in a cell countless times, you'll have to be more specific."
"Don't just give up."
"It's over."
"No! You just have to-"
"When Odin speaks, his will is done at any costs. That's the way it works here." Loki snapped sounding agitated.
"You're Loki, you're a god! You don't have to take it lying down!" I yelled, my voice echoing off the walls.
"A murderous god." He mumbled.
" You've changed!"
"And what makes you think that?" He asked raising his voice and walking up the force field between us.
"I can tell!"
"Oh you can tell? Why? Because I saved your life? Because I'm nice to you?" He spat.
"You're not nice to me." I argued. "but I can see you getting softer. I can see good in you." I all but pleaded with him to see the truth.
"You're naive and you let your feelings for me cloud what's real."
"My feelings for you?" I asked feeling my cheeks grow red. "I don't have feelings for you."
Even as I said the words my heart called me a cowardly liar.
"Then I don't have feelings for you." He said shrugging.
We watched one another in a silent battle.
"Do you..?" I asked trying to keep my voice from shaking.
"Perhaps." He said running his hand through his hair and shrugging
"I'd like to spend the last few hours I have in peace and unless you'd like to come in here and keep me company.." He said suggestively raising an eyebrow.
"I wish you'd just act serious for a second." I groaned.
"Wishes don't come for free." He said winking
His cavalier behavior was ludicrous but his words had given me an idea, a crazy one but it was a start.
"You might be giving up but I've got work to do." I snapped, turning away and heading for the door.
::
I ran down the palace halls to the library and ripped a books from the shelves.
I'd spent some time in the vast walls of books when Loki had been avoiding me and I recalled a book of magical creatures that had piqued my interest.
Finally I'd found the right one and my shaky fingers sped through the pages until I saw a picture of a woman, dressed in a white gown with flaming red hair.
Nasa, the wish granter.
I read through the description quickly and then decided to rip out the page.
My feet pounded on the floor to my room and my fingers ripped clothes from the wardrobe. A pair of riding pants and a tunic were on my body in seconds.
I tucked the picture into my waist of my pants and took off to the stables.
A familiar chestnut brown horse neighed when it saw me enter.
I shhed her softly, put a saddle on her and strapped it on the best my untrained hands could.
I'd never ridden a horse alone, but if ever there was a time to try, it was now.
"And what do you think your doing?"
I turned to see Leza and Bane standing at the door of the stables.
"Just going for a ride." I lied turning around not meeting his eyes as he walked over to me.
"I heard of the princes verdict."
"Yea well I wouldn't bet on it yet." I growled reaching up to grab the strap to the mares mouth bit but felt the paper on my waist get snatched
"Hey!"
"Nasa? You plan to wish Loki free?" Leza asked cocking a brow.
I snatched the paper back and tucked it back into the safety of my waistband.
"You got a better idea?" I asked curtly.
Bane looked at his comrade and they spoke silently for a moment.
"Well, I guess you've got two volunteers." Bane said smiling looking like he'd won the hushed argument.
"What? You're going to help me?" I asked shocked.
"Don't sound so surprised human." Leza said mounting his own horse followed by Bane.
I watched them shell shocked that they were willing to assist me in saving Loki.
"I assume we're under a time crunch?" Leza barked not liking the small smile that spread on my face.
