"So you have given my son a little more time to live, I am grateful." He said giving me a small nod.
"A little?" I asked confused.
"We will see how he behaves or if he tries to escape. If this doesn't go well, I won't be able to stop the council any longer." He said speaking more to Loki than to me now.
"Since you are familiar with his type of punishment, he'll be in your charge while he proves to the council he's no longer a threat."
"My charge?" I gasped, my eyes widening.
"The trial is not yet over. You seem to have some sway over my son." Odin said giving Loki a look with his good eye.
Loki rolled his eyes.
"If you refuse then he will stay in the dungeons unless he is completing the services to his community."
Green eyes snapped to mine, pleading with me not to send him back to his cell.
I'd thought this was over..I'd go home with whatever magic potion they had for Devin.
"Fine." I mumbled resentfully.
Odin held his palm out and two black bracelets knitted together from molten metal, he handed me one and clasped the other on Loki's wrist.
"Loki will only be able to go a short distance from you at all times while your wearing this. If he goes to far he'll be drawn to your side. You have the ability to remove the enchantment but only if it causes you danger to be shackled to him" He warned.
The bracelet shrunk to fit my wrist snugly and I noticed that it had a faint warmness to it.
Being chained to Loki was on my list of things that I never thought would happen but here I was, a glorified babysitter with an enchanted tether to his moody highness.
Odin waived his hand in front of Loki and the chains and mask fell to his feet with a clank.
"You've been given a second chance my son, use it wisely."
Thor bowed to his father thanking him and nodded at me discreetly.
"Thank you for your time." I said quickly bowing my head.
Loki rubbed his wrists as he watched his father and older brother discuss different services appropriate for him.
I slid from the council hall and hurried down the hall, needing a few minutes to myself.
I was exhausted at the emotional roller coaster that was, but more than that I was pissed.
I was stuck here overseeing his trail freedom, god knew how long they'd have him on probation. On earth it lasted years sometimes..I had to find a way to convince Thor to hand over whatever would save my brother and take me home. I'd figure out how to talk to Odin about finding someone else to babysit his son after I had the healing magic.
My hand rested on my stomach as I felt like I might throw up. I wanted to go to my room, strip this heavy dress off and burry myself in the grand bed for the rest of the day. My room was empty of any servants and I let out a breath of relief. I went to close the heavy doors but a hand slapped into the wood forcing it open and making me take a few stairs back to avoid being smacked with it.
"We need to talk." Loki said coming in and closing the door.
"I don't want to talk to you." I snapped rubbing my temples.
"Still mad about that kiss?" He asked smirking.
"Yes actually." I said hating that he'd reminded me of it yet again.
It'd been replaying in my mind all morning.
"Well what would you do if you were about to be beheaded, I could hardly let my last kiss be a handmaiden from the palace." He shrugged.
My face flushed with embarrassment and anger.
Why should I care what his callous explanation was for kissing me?
"You're an asshole." I said shoving him towards the door.
"I need you to take the bracelet off."
He planted his feet and my own slid against the floor, the slippers I was wearing loosing traction against his rooted stance.
"Hell no!" I grunted still trying to push him out.
"The trial isn't over which means I haven't saved my brothers life yet. So you're not going anywhere."
He grabbed my wrists and yanked me to my tip-toes, halting my futile attempts to move him.
"This is bigger than you, than me." He growled.
"I need to get far away from here."
I glared at him.
"You're unbelievable. You only give a shit about yourself."
"Listen to me." He said slowly, bringing me very close.  "You and everyone else here is in danger, unless you release me."
I snorted and rolled my eyes.
"Do you really think I'm that stupid? I'm not playing your games Loki."
"This is not a game." He said letting me go and running a hand agitatedly through his hair.
"Its always a game with you."
He looked at me and I could see that I'd got him there. He couldn't deny that truth.
I walked around him to the door and held it open.
"It's time for you to go."
He narrowed his eyes at me
"We will talk later" He warned as he walked by me.
His eyes were still holding mine when I slammed the door closed.
