I walked into the cell paddock and expected to see Loki on his bench, instead he was chained to the floor, a metal collar was around his neck with a long chain that connected both wrists, the entire thing locked to a large metal hoop in the floor.
A guard stood in front of him, throwing punches at his face.
"Stop!" I yelled running for the door, punching the code in and sprinting into the cell.
"What the hell are you doing!" I yelled grabbing the guys gun he'd pulled off his back, the barrel pressed into his forehead.
"Get the fuck outta here. If he can escape once he can escape twice and I ain't letting that happen."
He tried to shake me off but I held onto the gun knowing if I let go, Loki was as good as dead.
The man's meaty hand bashed to my chest, knocking me down. When I went to get up, a large black boot kicked me in the side, knocking the wind out of me.
"Stop!" Loki yelled, his chains jangling as he struggled against them.
I sucked in air and shoved onto my elbows and my eye caught Loki's. He wasn't even looking at the gun that had gone back to pressing into his skull, instead he was watching me.
The gun cocked and he closed his eyes.
Get up.
I groaned and pushed myself onto my knees, took a deep breath and launched myself at the tree trunk of man.
"Anna no!" Loki yelled as I collided with the stranger.
A gunshot went off making my ears ring, I must have smashed into him just as he fired the weapon.
I slammed my fist into his throat and heard him choke.
I needed speed, if I slowed at all the guard would find a window to overpower me.
Bobbing to avoid his messy hit I let my fist fly into his ribs in a combo of knuckles and jabs before he could regain his breath.
He double over slightly and I kicked him between the legs with as much strength as I could muster.
He sucked in a breath and I thought he might throw up. The gun had been discarded to my left and I made a mad dash for it before he could recover.
The back of my shirt was grabbed just as my hand grasped the barrel. I slid across the floor as I was yanked back and I flipped the gun in my hands aiming it at my attacker as he turned me around.
His face blanched in surprise seeing his gun in my hands.
"You won't shoot me." He grunted, his throat probably still sore from the blow it'd taken.
"Get on your knees, hands behind your head. Now."
He smirked and took a step forwards.
The gun fired, recoiling slightly in my hands and the man howled.
I'd hit him in the thigh, it was already soaking his uniform around the entrance wound.
"I said get on your fucking knees!"
He whimpered but obeyed, putting his hands behind his hand and leaning to the side to avoid putting pressure on his injured leg.
I pulled the walkie-talkie off my hip and called for rouge infantry assistance in the cell paddock.
I rushed over to Loki who was looking at me like I had two heads.
"How in the hell did you do that?"
I inspected his face, turning it over in my hands to see it fully.
"I'm an agent." I admitted remembering how he'd threatened to kill me if he found out I'd lied.
I guess it was a good thing I was making this confession while he was chained.
"Then why didn't you try and fight me before." He asked wincing a little as I touched the bone below is eye.
"I did." I muttered not liking the pride that glinted in his eyes.
I'd tried to fight him when he'd first taken me, but I couldn't fight what kept disappearing. I couldn't fight zappy magic that kept my locked in a dingy room.
Another guard came into the cell and froze when he saw us.
"Take him away." I said nodding to the guard who was looking increasingly pale.
I didn't bother chatting with him as he escorted the wounded guard out.
Loki's face was bleeding from a few different cuts, bruises spotted purple and blue all over his face.
I got up and jogged to the kitchen and got a bowl of water and a wash cloth. When I came back to the cell Loki was in a sitting position.
I dipped the cloth in the water and began wiping his face off.
"He got you good didn't he." I sighed as he hissed as I cleaned a particular deep slit in his skin.
"Why are you helping me?"
I wrung out the cloth and paused.
"I don't know." I said honestly.
I had no idea why I'd protected him, or why I was tending to him like this.
"You just..need help." I said not knowing what I meant but knowing that the words somehow fit.
His eyes grew hard.
"Stop." He snapped shoving my hands away making the chains dance with the movement.
"Why? Your covered in blood." I said trying to wipe his face again.
"I don't need you to help me." He spat leaning away.
He was giving me the same look he did when we first me.
"I don't see anyone else lining up to do it." I snapped hating the way it hurt my feelings to be looked at like a disgusting mouse running over his feet.
"So we're back to me being beneath you?"
He didn't respond but I could see it in his eyes.
I threw the cloth into the maroon tinged water and stood up.
"What did you think we were friends now?" he scoffed up at me.
I growled and kicked the bowl of water sending my spraying everywhere.
"You're unbelievable."
"Leave me alone, I've no use for you anymore." He said looking away from me like he couldn't stand to see me marring his presence.
"Fine. Have fun getting executed."
I walked out of the cell and slammed the door closed.
Good riddance.
