My lips tingled.
It was a ghost of a kiss..if you could even call it that, it was more like him whispering a threat directly into my soul.
He pulled away and walked into the bathroom slamming the door.
That was the second time that Loki's lips had touched mine. The first time, I felt repulsed, this time I felt afraid.
Neither could be considered a kiss, but the fact that his lips had even grazed mine weighed on my mind.
I heard the shower turn on and deemed it safe to leave my place against the wall.
My skin prickled in goosebumps as I replayed the threat in my mind.
Where would he leave me for dead? Somewhere the sun blistered my skin? Or possibly somewhere where I froze solid within hours. Maybe if he was feeling particularly vindictive he'd poof us hundreds of leagues into the ocean and leave me there, swimming for the surface that would never come.
I sat on the edge of the bed and chewed my lip.
He was the type of man that made good on his threats, I'd seen it first hand along with the rest of the world.
And why couldn't I get the blasted smell of cinnamon and spice out of my nose!
I should slip away and try and find a phone to call Fury and alert him to our location, not sit here in this stupid dress waiting for my captor to figure it all out and kill me off.
I slid silently to the door and grasped the knob.
Gasping I yanked my hand back and shook my the pain from my fingers.
"What is this?" I whispered leaning closer and inspecting the door.
A faint shimmer of green blanketed the surface.
"Fucking magic." I groaned.
I gingerly ran my fingertips across the door and hissed when they were zapped.
So the door wasn't an option, I should have known he wouldn't have just left me in here to escape out of the front.
I jogged to the window and eyed it closely, looking for the faint glimmer of a force field over it.
Sure enough, this exit was covered also.
"Did you really think me so stupid?"
I whirled around, Loki leaned against the door frame of the bathroom.
His wet hair curling against his neck, water droplets sliding down the contours of his bare chest.
This is torture. I'm being tortured.
His leather pants were on but they were unlaced at his waist and his shirt dangling from his hand as if he'd sensed my escape attempts in the middle of dressing.
"Maybe." I said trying to keep my eyes level with his.
His muscles tensed in annoyance and my eyes flicked down to watch them jump.
He saw the shift of my eyes and raised an eyebrow at me, his previous annoyance replaced with a quiet smugness.
"Put a shirt on, nakedness makes people uncomfortable on this planet." I snapped turning around and looking back out the window.
"It burns you to enjoy the sight of me, doesn't it." I heard him chuckle.
I gripped the skirt of my dress and clenched my jaw at the complete arrogance of him.
I could hear him shuffling around the room but kept my gaze on the bright greens of the grassy field outside.
"Lets go."
"Unless your taking me home I don't want to go anywhere with you."
"I'm taking you on a walk." He said simply.
"Am I a pet to you?" I snapped cocking my head to the side to glare to him.
"I assure you, if you were my pet you wouldn't be so insubordinate."
I rolled my eyes and turned back to watch the chickens pecking at the ground in their pen.
"We can sit in this room all day and night if you'd rather. But I hate to see a woman in a nice dress without a place to show it off."
I wanted to scream.
This was without a doubt going to be the end of me. Having to be drug around by this asshole, knocked around, threatened and then sweet talked all in the same breath.
I sighed defeatedly and walked for the door he already had open as if he knew I'd cave eventually.
His hand came to the small of my back to guide me out the door but I smacked it away earning a breathy chuckle. It would be a kind gesture if it weren't coming from him.
"You sure are a spitfire aren't you?" He said following close behind as we descended the stairs.
"I'm so eagerly devoured by your eyes one second and the next You're ready to plunge a dagger into my heart."
I clenched my teeth and whirled around smacking my hand into his chest and shoving him into the wall.
"I hate you. If I could outsmart you I'd run and if I could fight you, I'd kill you." I seethed, my fist twisting into the top of his shirt that peaked out above his leather armor.
He looked almost surprised by my outburst and I shoved away from him, resuming my decent down the stairs.
We walked out of the inn I realized how small of a town this really was, it was like we'd gone back in time.
There were cows and sheep walking freely and only a few small houses lined along a road that was really a glorified path of loosely packed dirt and gravel.
Loki started to walk down the road, so I followed begrudgingly.
We walked down the path in silence and I watched his back wondering what was going on in that nonsensical head of his.
I glanced around us looking for anything that could aid an escape attempt. To my right was a clearing with small wildflowers strewn throughout the grass, cows walking around chewing on the colorful blooms.
To my left, rolling hills and deep valleys.
"If you're thinking about running, I'd advise against it." Loki said glancing over his shoulder.
I frowned and looked down at the path as it passed under me.
This walk sucked.
A startled breath left my mouth when I ran into Loki's backside, he'd stopped and was standing in the middle of the road.
"I wouldn't have destroyed all this." He said suddenly.
I took a few steps back and and eyed him as he turned towards me.
"I am capable of seeing what little beauty Midgard has."
"Sure, enslaving the human race is fine as long as you enjoy the scenery. Do you even hear yourself?" I said rolling my eyes.
"You don't know what you're taking about."
"Oh I think I do." I argued crossing my arms.
His eyes flashed.
"Your race hates its own kind, your women and children unsafe from unseen prowling dangers. Your planet is dying, you kill your oceans and poison your air." He stepped forwards menacingly but I tilted my chin up refusing to let him bulldoze me into fear.
"Your race is dying and you've hardly begun living. If a place ever needed a ruler, it's this squeamish excuse for a planet."
I hated it, but when he said it that way I could almost see why someone who knew nothing of the human race would think that they could rule it and make it better.
"That's not the way it works." I sighed shaking my head wishing I could put into words the beauty and complexity of humans.
"And you definitely don't rip out people's eyes on live television, to get the human race to vote for you."
"Where I come from, to rule you must first conquer." He said with conviction and it was his turn to turn his face up in opposition.
It was astounding. He truly felt it was his right to commit atrocities in the name of saving us from ourselves.
A prince, a god..it was just simply what was done where he came from.
A small seed of pity sprouted because what must it have been like for him?
How much murder had he seen as boy that hardened him to it and made him into the man he was now.
"You killed thousands of innocent people." I threw at him, clenching my fists.
"That's wasn't the plan."
"Well you did, you ruined thousands of families. Children never saw their parents again. Wives lost their husbands. You ruined an entire city." I snarled reminding myself why I hated him, reminding myself why it couldn't give him an excuse after what he'd done to my city.
You killed my brother.
"Innocent lives are sometimes lost in war."
His voice was cold but I could see panic behind his eyes, like he didn't want to be reminded of a truth he already knew.
"We didn't ask for a war! You signed us up for it for your own selfish agenda."
It seemed like the entire field grew quiet now, even the cows had gone still in their hunt for vegetation.
"You wanted to rule so bad you didn't care who got hurt, don't give me that crap about how we needed guidance."
"Stop!" he snarled hurling himself at me.
"You murdered innocent people!" I snarled back jumping a step out of his grasp.
"Children. Sisters. Brothers." My voice cracked and when I tried to evade him again he was to quick.
"I said stop!" He roared grabbing me and throwing me to the ground.
I looked up at him through narrowed eyes as he paced back in forth in front of me, chest heaving madly.
"Those people were casualties, they were nobody!"
His eyes held that same craze they'd had in prison.
"Is that what you tell yourself so you can sleep at night?" I asked as I got to my feet, wiping the dirt from my palms onto the dress.
"They were useless, tiny insects that were insignificant in the bigger picture." He boomed looking like he wanted to throw me down again.
"My brother was not useless or insignificant!" I shouted, throwing my fist into his face.
It hardly clipped the underside of his jaw and I reeled my fist back again.
"My brother was a good man, he was my best friend. He had a purpose in life." I punched him again but missed as he ducked out the way.
He spun me as I attacked him and shoved his palms into my back, using my own momentum against me so my knees buckled into the ground.
"You killed him." I threw up at him.
Hatred dripped off my every word and I clenched my fists in my lap. My eyes blurred slightly and a few tears fell onto the dress leaving small dark circles on impact.
I wiped my cheeks quickly not wanting him to see me cry and shoved myself to my feet, my blazing eyes meeting his.
I was at him again, the point of my foot slamming into his thigh sending him to his knees, my knuckles connecting with the side of his face so hard his head buckled backwards.
I stood over him and sent a kick into his side earning a grunt of pain from him.
"You collapsed the tunnel so you could get the tesseract." The words tumbled out of my mouth as I kicked him again. "You crushed him under thousands of pounds of rock. You ruined my life, you took away my only family! What you did to me, you did you thousands of other families. This is the legacy you've left on earth!"
I was practically screaming now as he allowed me to take out a years worth of pain on him.
"Fight back!"
I grabbed him by the pits of his armor and yanked him up.
"Fight.back." I grunted trying to lift him.
His hands slid up my arms and his eyes were raw with pain. I hadn't thought it was possible to see that type of tortured look on his face.
