The Lake To Forget

Start from the beginning

You made it to the room with Hua Lin inside, but...

"I am Joo Dee. Welcome to Ba Sing Se." A man wearing a conical hat and a dark, lengthy robe stood in front of a crowd of women, all wearing the same dress.

"I am Joo Dee. Welcome to Ba Sing Se." They repeated after him, faces blank except for a fear inducing smile.

You had to do something to get the guy out of the picture... Chances are, he's brainwashed them into doing something when an intruder comes in.

You formed a tiny ball of void. Slowly, you increased its size, changed its properties, and engulfed the room with darkness.

You snuck into the room, and before the brainwashed could get out, you changed the properties of the void around him.

The tea Iroh made for you knocked you out cold after you drank it, and you remembered exactly how to make it thanks to how much he loved explaining his tea making process.

Needless to say, you managed to knock out the guard.

Then was the issue of rescuing everyone else. First of all, you had to undo the brainwashing somehow.

You approached Hua Lin and whispered her name, but...

"I am Joo Dee. I am afraid I do not know the citizen you speak of." Hua Lin smiled.

You bit your thumb. What would get her to remember?

"...Have you heard of the Pao Family Tea House?" You quizzed.

"The Pao Family Tea House is a shop located in the lower ring of our excellent city." Hua Lin grinned.

...It was going to be difficult, but you had the relic of creation. Maybe, just maybe, you could create it!

You listed the properties of the baked buns. The texture of the red bean paste, the flavor of the bun, all the way to its shape. You recalled the rainy night when Zuko made one for you, and thought of the buns exact temperature.

You handed her the bun, a hopeful smile on your face. You noticed her fake smile drop.

She slowly looked up at you, a faint glimmer of light in her eyes.

"My name is Y/N. How about you?" You asked.

"I... Joo Dee..." Hua Lin stared down at the baked bun and unexpectedly jerked backwards.

"I am not Joo Dee! I... I-I...." She trembled, her dark eyes wide. When, suddenly, you could see a light in her eyes again. "...I'm Hua Lin. Y/N..."

She didn't tear up. She didn't scream in fear. Instead, she held out her hand.

"Give me a dagger and I will lead everyone here out alive." Hua Lin grit her teeth, "I'm finding my sister."

You nodded and created a weapon for her. "Be careful." You murmured, dissipating the mask of void you'd made.

You focused and located Appa. To your surprise, you and Zuko weren't the only ones there.

"Iroh..." You mumbled.

"Uncle...? Y/N?" Zuko whispered.

"So, the Blue Spirit. I wonder who could be behind that mask." Iroh said.

"What are you doing here?" Zuko sighed, removing his mask.

"I was about to ask you the same thing. What do you plan to do know that you've found the Avatar's bison? Keep him locked in our new apartment? Should I go put on a cup of tea for him?"

"First, I have to get it out of here." Zuko muttered.

"And then what!?" Iroh yelled, "You never think these things through!"

Iroh released an agitated sigh, "This is exactly what happened when you captured the Avatar at the North Pole! You had him, and then you had no where to go!"

"I would've figured something out!" Zuko shouted.

"If his friends hadn't found you, you would've frozen to death!" Iroh refuted Zuko's claim and stepped forward.

"I know my own destiny, Uncle!" Zuko argued.

"Is it your own destiny, or is it a destiny someone else has tried to force on you?"

"Stop it, Uncle! I have to do this!" Zuko grunted.

"I'm begging you, Prince Zuko! It's time for you to look inward and begin asking yourself the big questions. Who are you, and what do you want?"

Overwhelmed, Zuko threw down his swords and mask with a cry of frustration.

He raised his hands to his face, clenching his teeth and shaking.

His eyes were wide and his eyebrows creased. He felt powerless, infuriated, and small.

"I hate this... I hate this!" He cried.

The three of you stood before Lake Laogai.

Appa was with Aang again. Hua Lin and the others could try to live freely.

Even with all that success, you felt pain in your heart.

So did Iroh. And especially Zuko.

"You did the right thing, nephew." Iroh hummed.

Zuko stared at his Blue Spirit mask, when Iroh placed a hand on his shoulder.

"Leave it behind."

Zuko narrowed his eyes at the mask and discarded it into the lake, watching as it drifted deeper and deeper into the blue water.

You squeezed his hand with a weak smile.

For now...

Everything... Will be okay, won't it?

__________//

"You did the right thing, letting the Avatar's bison go free." Iroh shut the front door with a relieved smile.

"...I don't feel right." Zuko, shaking, raised a hand to his head. Concerned, you approached him.

His sword sheath slipped out of his fingers as his body collapsed to the floor with a thud.

"ZUKO!"
