Her Reason

"Katara, dear, could you help me cut the-" Sokka slid into the room, interrupting your mother, "I'll cut them! Warrior Slice ™!" Sokka cut the fish... Vertically instead of horizontally. "More like Idiot Slice." Katara huffed. You were sitting beside your grandma, Kanna. Of course, you called her Gran-gran. What else would you call her? Momma G?

"You know, when we found you in that pile of snow... Your father thought you were a robot baby sent from the fire nation!" She laughed.

"Hey! Look, you were totally still, you didn't even shiver a bit! Then you just... Stared at us, soullessly." Hakoda stated, butting in to your conversation. You flicked his forehead.

"Well, you might've found her eyes dull and empty, but you have to admit, Y/N has very beautiful eyes." Gran-gran hummed.

"She does now." Hakoda chuckled. You raised up your fist and glared at him as you sipped a glass of water.

"Why would you even think I was a robot baby? Was there a fire bender here on the day you found me?" You scoffed, talking into your cup.

"No, there wasn't, but... You know how they frequently come by, looking for benders. Like your sister, Katara. It's why we haven't allowed you two to train in public. Just in case." Hakoda muttered. "Oh..." You didn't really know what to say to that.

"But, hey! If a fire bender came at you, I would protect you with my... Warrior Slice!" He exclaimed, grinning. "Oh, that reminds me! When we took you in, you would always try to mess up your father's clothes! Sometimes you would rip and tear them, other times you would... Curl up into a ball and hiss at him if he tried to get his clothes back. It was always the fluffy jackets you would destroy." Kanna smiled, reminiscing.

"I would do that? Geez..." You whispered. "Ah, it's fine. You don't need to apologize." Hakoda said. "I wasn't going to." You mumbled. "Woah woah woah, where's this attitude coming from?" You paused for a moment and glanced at the floor. "... I'm hangry. All I've consumed is a cup of hot snow-water!" You groaned. "Hey, snow water is the 2nd best kind of water!"
"Not when it's yellow."
"Wait wh-"

"Food's ready!" Kya place food on all your plates. And of course, Sokka snuck a spoonful of Katara's food. "So, what were you guys talking about?" Katara asked. "Oh, just stories about how goofy your sister was when we took her in." Your dad said, ruffling your hair. "Daaad! You're breathing on my food!" You exclaimed, giggling. "Ah, I remember when Katara tried to help me make an outfit for you. I made a ton more, but you only wanted to wear the one your sister helped with." Kya beamed. "Really? The only thing I remember from back then was when Sokka tried to use me for target practice."

Everyone stared at Sokka in surprise.
"Hey! I was just a kid!" He yelled. "You were throwing snowballs at your baby sister!?" Kya shouted. "I threw them softly!" He argued. "How do you throw a snowball to the face softly!?" Katara huffed. "Wait, how come you remember me throwing them at her face?" Sokka questioned. "She threw snowballs at me too." You smirked. "Katara!?" Hakoda raised his eyebrow. "Wow, Katara. New low."
"Wh- You did it too!"
"Sokka, Katara, apologize to Y/N." Kya huffed, crossing her arms.

"I'm really sorry, Y/N. I was being a dumb kid, almost as dumb as Sokka."
"Wh-"
"We'll do anything to make it up to you." Katara stated, clasping her hands together. "Mmmn.... Well, I have an idea on how you could make it up to me."

So there were three plates in front of you.

Sokka and Katara stared at you with disappointment, regret, and a hint of "yeah, I kinda deserve this" on their faces. "Oh, are you guys hungry? Here, have some snow water!" You pushed your cup towards the two of them. "Y/N!", "What? You said it yourself! Snow-water is the 2nd best kind of water!"

You all continued to share more old stories (and you continued to cheat your siblings out of their joy), until something even more interesting happened.

"Hey, wasn't there some weird tag on Y/N? I forgot what it said, but it said something." Sokka recalled. "Yes, there was... I believe it was a name tag that said... Lso Enoette. " You got a strange feeling in your chest when you heard that name. Your fingers became stiff. "Lso... Enoette? Was that the name my birth parents gave me?" You whispered. "We weren't entirely sure, so we decided to give you another name instead. We called you Y/N since you seemed to like it... But if want to be called Lso-", "No, no." You interrupted your mother, "Y/N is fine, that Lso name... Makes me feel weird. I have a feeling it was my actual name, but... It's not the name you guys gave me. And I like the name given to me by people who actually care for me, rather than people that leave me in a pile of snow. Without a jacket, might I add!"

"Aww, Y/N... That's so sweet!" Sokka grinned. "... I was going to say something along the lines of "shut up, fool. We both know you didn't name me", but honestly, you've been a nice big brother." You said. "Same to you, Katara. And thank you for all the food you've given me over the years."

"Huh? This is only the third time I've given you food, like ever! Have you... Been stealing from me!?" Katara leaned forward, giving you the stink eye. "Oh, uh..." You awkwardly smiled. "You owe me... You owe me so much, Y/N! You better learn how to cook all my favorites, because you! Owe! Me! And Sokka, you need to clean YOUR side of our room! You're making a mess of the place!" Katara screamed. "Ma'am yes ma'am!" You and Sokka said in sync. "Hmph!" Katara slumped back into her chair.

Soon enough, everyone was outside messing around, or doing something dumb. You exited your home first, so you had pretty much no clue where anyone else was. You were pretty much laying in the snow with no purpose in life, perpetuating the cycle of life. We come from the earth, and must return to it. Something like that.

Huh. That's depressing.

You were continuing the cycle when... You realized it was snowing! You could get back at Sokka and Katara by using THEM for target practice!

But... Why does the snow look... Gray?

You heard screams. People were running past you, looking for places to hide. You were confused. You turned to your left and saw...

A massive ship. Your body felt weird. "That's not... Right..." You muttered. You felt sick, as if you were about to collapse. You felt... Heat. As you panted, trying to fight the urge to pass out, you could feel heat in every breath you took. "Heat... Fire...!" They were going to look for water benders...! They were going to look for Katara!

You ran, trying to find her, but you felt weak... You were stumbling about, lost and confused. It was hard to make out anything, the falling snow covered your vision. You saw soldiers exiting the large ship, and then...

You were out cold.

"Gah!" You got up. Things were a little clearer now. You still felt strange, but... The conflicting energies in your body stabilized, and you felt balance between the two. But something was still off.

You saw soldiers returning to their ship. Then you realized... "They took her!" You could feel power coursing through your body. You wouldn't stand for this. You wouldn't lose the family you had gained.

You weren't going to risk a war between the fire nation and your tribe. You knew... Things wouldn't go smoothly. So you would have to sneak her out! They always take water benders as their prisoners. That's what Gran-gran told you. So you knew she was still alive.

You ran closer to the ship, and warped the void around yourself. "I want to be like the air." You thought. Obviously, a big black sphere approaching a ship is weird, and probably a threat. You were aware of space. You could feel where everything was. You wanted to locate Katara and then break her out. You remembered... The necklace mom gave her! She never took it off. So if you try to focus on that necklace...

You were in the ship. You found her necklace, and there were no guards around. You stopped warping and picked it up. But... You couldn't find Katara.

You started to sweat.

"No, no, no... She's not dead, there's no-... Wait..."

This wasn't Katara's necklace.

It was your mother's.
