A few days later, Julie and I drove home from the grocery store.

King was showering, Tia, Cider and Ángel were at work.

I got out of the car and blinked when I saw someone sitting on the doorstep.

"Ezra? What are you doing here?" I asked getting out of the car.

He looked up and me.

"Hey, Vera." He said.

"What are you doing here?" I asked grabbing a few bags from the car.

"I came to see how you were doing." He stood up and walked over. "Let me help."

"No, it's okay." Julie said but he took some bags.

Shit, he's going to see King!

"Um it's fine. You don't have to help."

"It's fine." He headed toward the door.

Julie and I glanced at each other but knew it would be more suspicious if we didn't let him help.

Julie opened the door and my heart was beating out of my chest.

We entered the house and he looked around.

"Nice place you have here." He said and we both thanked him. Julie and I glanced at each other and searched around for King.

He was no where to be seen.

The shower isn't running and the door is wide open, so he's not in there.

I glanced at Julie but she was acting casual.

Yet, I could tell she was also nervous.

"Where do I put these?" He asked.

"On the table is fine." Julie said.

I felt to nervous to talk.

He set down the 8 bags and went back to the car for more.

"Shit, what do we do!?" I whispered to Julie.

"Just play it cool. And for gods's sake, don't look like you've seen a ghost!" She hissed.

Ezra came back and closed the door, putting the bags on the table.

"Is that all?" He asked.

"Yes, thank you." Julie smiled.

"Are you alright, Vera?" Ezra asked and my stomach flip flopped.

"Yeah. I'm just embarrassed of you seeing my house. That's all." I lied.

I wasn't to ashamed of this overly rich kid seeing my poor house.

Why should I be ashamed?

"Don't worry. It's a nice house." He smiled.

"Why did you come?" I asked.

"Like I said. I just came to see how you were doing. Is there anywhere we can talk?" He asked.

He didn't glance at Julie but I knew he meant her.

"I'll go to my room." She said and left.

"Do you want anything to drink? I can make lemonade."

"I'm okay." He pulled a bottle of water out of his pants pocket.

I nodded and we stared at each other.

Was he really okay with King stealing from the poor?

Was that really him on the video call?

Is he really a bad guy?

"Oh. You have milk. Let me put it away."

I was brought out of my thoughts.

"Oh, right. Sorry."

We put away the groceries and then sat down at the table with water.

I sipped mine nervously

What do I do?

What do I say?

"Are you alright?"

"Yeah."

"You look uncomfortable. Do you want me to go?"

"No, I'm okay."

Please leave. Hopefully Julie found King and let him know the situation.

God damn it, he better not come out just to fuck with us.

Why is he here? He needs a reason other than just checking up on me.

He put his cup down and wiped the water from his smooth face.

"How is your ability coming along? Is it behaving?" He asked.

"Oh, yeah. I forgot I even had it."

He nodded.

"Have you used it recently?"

"No. I haven't had a reason to." I lied.
