You immediately understood that it was blood.

The tips of your shoes were pointed at a golden parchment and pen. You picked them up, mumbling a quiet prayer.

"Dear Băoshí. I know you have already left this world, but it seems my heart has left with you as well. I am deeply sorrowful and regretful for my incompetence. Had I been a quicker, stronger, smarter, you'd have lived another day."

Whoever this person was... You could relate to them. What Katara said to you? That's how she truly felt. And she was right. Maybe if you were faster, you could've saved your mother. Maybe if you were stronger enough, you wouldn't have left Zuko behind. Maybe if you were  smarter, you could've come up with a better plan for Ursa to use, or a better plan to save your mom.

You continued reading.

"I went into a great depression, slowly dying from sadness. Then I found the great spirit of knowledge, Wan Shi Tong. I wanted to ask if he could tell me a way to bring you back, but he wanted to know of your powers. When I told him, he said I had to give him everything I knew. So I have."

"When I finished writing down everything I could, he asked to see you. After that, I was permitted leave his library. But when I told him of your passing, he turned away from me, leaving me in this library, alone. Soon, I will become one of his tools. A seeker of knowledge."

You let out a gasp, dropping the paper in shock. Wan Shi Tong's knowledge seekers... Are people he's kept on his library!? "Who's there?" You heard his voice echoing in the room. He was close.

A fuzzy hand touched your skin, and you saw a large fox beside you. It picked up the pen you found and wrote down something on the wall.

"Băoshí?"

You shook your head, but created another wave of void in your palm. The huge fox used its tail to get you on its back. You were carried through a shortcut out of the room.

"You're the one who wrote that letter?" You inquired, surprised. The fox made a noise, which you took as a yes. The name "Zai Jin" came to your mind.
Lso has been with every void bender there ever was. She must've seen Băoshí's life, too.

"Zai Jin. You were Băoshí's lover." You said. The fox made a sad noise. "..." When you reached the end of the shortcut, you placed a small, heart-shaped, piece of void before Zai Jin.

His eyes were misty. "I can't believe Wan Shi Tong would do such a thing." You gave Zai Jin a hug, "I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. I don't know how I could bring you back."

He shook his head, rubbing his fur against your face. Zai Jin held the dark heart in his mouth. He lifted his paw up as some sort of wave, then turned around, tail waving behind him.

You felt a storm whirling within you. Anger, sadness, guilt, and hatred were mixed together, then slamming and crashing into each other, spinning and colliding all at once.

How could he?

You clenched your fists.

Wan Shi Tong...

Sand began pouring down from above. The entire building was shaking. You formed a lasso and swung closer to the exit. "Y/N!"

Katara, Momo, and The Professor were being chased by Wan Shi Tong. "Grab it!" You yelled, throwing a rope of void their way. You pulled them up, with Momo flying over to lend you a hand.

"Amazing..." Wan Shi Tong analyzed your powers, trying to crush you. "YOU'RE A MONSTER!" You shouted. "Why, that's rather rude, Lso. I may be a ten foot tall owl, but you could've been a bit kinder."

"You turned him– YOU TURNED THEM ALL INTO YOUR SLAVES!"
"And soon, you will join them. I still remember the last time I tried to study your powers. You forced my spirit to reside here."

Stepping back, Wan Shi Tong sent a gust of wind towards you. You fell to the ground. "Y/N, NO!"

You could hear his footsteps.

"Worthless."

"You could've saved her!"

You didn't help him.

"It's no surprise your mother died."

"I will make you a weapon."

You never act.

"I allowed him to be manipulated!"

"Had I been there, things could've been..."

This is all because of you.

You stood up, desd silent. A dark shadow covered your face and your eyes were wide. "..."

Wan Shi Tong tried to hit you, but you merely raised up your hand, blocking his attack and causing him to freeze.

You smacked him backwards, geysers of emptiness shooting out from the depths of the library.

You felt Lso trying to help. "This is my battle." You whispered.

In Wan Shi Tong...

You saw Zhao.

You saw Ozai.

But worse of all...

You saw yourself.

A nasty, cruel, despicable monster.

A single tear dropped from your eye.

You sent all the geysers at the owl, crossing them with each other. You tied down Wan shi Tong's entire body, focusing on his lower half by warping void with your feet, and his upper with your hands.

Then, once you had pinned him down, you tightened all the geysers, forming a blade. You held it to his head.

You paused.

You shut your eyes.

You left him alone.

You fell to the ground, Sokka grabbing your hand again. "...I need to get Zai Jin..." You whispered. "There's no time!" Aang shouted, airbending you upwards. "..." You stared down at the library. "...Okay."

Sokka flashed you a look of concern as you exited the library.

You held your plastic butterfly.
"..." You didn't deserve him.

"...I..." You wanted to see him again, just so you could say at least, two words to him. "I'm sorry."

You were hurting.

But you didn't think you deserved to be comforted.
