Calm Before the Storm

Start from the beginning

You knew it all too well.

"Sokka...!?" The two of you embraced, surprised to see each other. "I'm so glad you're here..." Sokka beamed, before frowning and giving you a look. "What are you doing here!? Don't tell me... Is Zuko here!?"

You had almost forgotten the fact he saw you on Zuko's ship. "I'll... explain that later. Where's Katara?" You asked, gently rubbing your arm. "She's-..." Sokka held your wrist, "How... Who gave you those burns?"

"Zhao and one of his guards. He's the one leading this whole raid." You explained, bitterness in your voice. "Of course it was Zhao..." Sokka clenched his teeth, anger apparent on his face. "I won't tolerate any of those monsters hurting my sisters. Maybe Katara could heal you!" ...What?

"Sokka!" A girl with beautiful white hair and blue eyes ran towards the two of you. She stopped in her tracks the moment she laid eyes on you. "What happened? What's wrong!?" Sokka walked up to her.

"Do... Do I know you?" She squinted at you, confused. "No, we've definitely never met." You replied, feeling unsure of your own words. "Oh... For some reason, I wanted to thank you for something. But that's not important." She turned to Sokka,  "Something's happening at the spirit oasis!"

The two of them quickly hopped onto Appa. "Come on! You'll be fine!" The girl took your hand and pulled you onto Appa. "You aren't scared of flying on this big guy?" You chuckled, nervous. "Well... It's not so bad when you're with someone." She smiled. "Heh... And it's not so bad when you hold on tight! Yip Yip!"

"Aang!" You hopped off of Appa, landing beside Katara, who looked at you in shock. "Y-Y/N...!?" She exclaimed, confused. "What happened?" You asked, placing a hand on her shoulder.

"It was Zuko." You glanced to the side and rubbed your neck.

"He took Aang. He took him right out from under me." Katara muttered. "You did everything you could, and now we need to do everything we can to  get him back." Sokka said, determined. "And with the three of us together again, I'm sure it'll be no problem!" You grinned. "Right... Right!" Katara smiled, wiping her tears away. She got onto Appa, turning to Momo. "It's alright Momo. You can stay here, just in case Aang gets back. I'm sure he'd be glad to see you." Katara hummed, hope in her eyes.

You played with Appa's fur, distant.

You would have to choose.

You didn't know where you were needed most. Zuko seemed to be doing better, and your siblings seemed alright.

But... What if you could help Zuko realize that capturing Aang isn't the right thing? If you could help him understand that no one could take his honor from him?

But what if something were to happen to Aang, Katara, and Sokka? They're already in danger with the Fire Nation after them, and Zhao-

You bit your lip, closing your eyes.

"So, you must be Sokka's other sister, Y/N." You looked at the girl with gorgeous white hair and blue eyes. "I'm Yue. Sokka talks a lot about you." Yue said. "He does? What does he say?" You questioned, tilting your head.

"That you're very caring, creative, and important to him." A smile made it's way on your face.

"And also that he sort of wants to, and I quote, flick your shiny forehead for the amount of sea prunes you've robbed him of." Yue giggled. "Hey! Top secret info!" Sokka exclaimed. "Boy, you better watch yourself before I smack you upside your ponytail having head!" You yelled, repeatedly poking his voluptuous forehead.

"He really wasn't kidding when he said you were funny. I feel comfortable around you already." Yue smiled, letting out a final laugh. Suddenly, her face turned rather serious.

"You seemed upset earlier. What's wrong?" She quizzed. "Oh, it's..." You let a huff of air escape your lips, "Have you ever felt like you had to be at two places at once? You want to please two different things, but you aren't sure which one is the correct one, and which one will make you truly happy?"

"Yes... I know that feeling very well." Yue replied, glancing at Sokka. "Do you want to talk about it?" You asked, shrugging. "...Ah, um..." Yue covered her face with her sleeve, clearly blushing. "Oh????? Could it be?" You smirked, putting two and two together.

"It... It could be." Yue whispered. You gasped. "But that's the thing. It could be. But I don't think it will be." Yue sighed. "And why's that?" You hummed. "I have to please my people. I'm... I'm engaged." She stated. "Oh..." You could see the sadness in her eyes.

"But there's something I like to do in order to calm myself. I'm not a water bender, but... Something about the ocean... The peace, the cool breeze, the gentle yet powerful push and pull, that eternal back and forth... In a strange way... I can relate to it."

"I've had some interesting experiences with the ocean, too." You stared up at the moon. "Really?" Yue raised an eyebrow. "Mhm. When I was little, I had to escape the Fire Nation by sea." You leaned against Appa's saddle. "Really!?" This time, she raised both of her eyebrows. "Yeah. I was in a tiny boat, but I was pushed and pulled towards my destination, without having to direct myself or anything." You explained.
"That's amazing..."

A bright light flew across the sky. "That has to be Aang!" Katara exclaimed, leaping upwards. "They've found the Avatar...! Thank you for the talk, Lso." Yue turned her back to you, sitting beside Katara.

Wait...

Lso?
