These are ways to guide Chord vibrations to achieve an effect on sound. In this case, this changes the temperature of the cast elements.

The changes are called flat, natural and sharp. Changing the temperature of the element to cold, warm and hot, respectively. You must be an experienced wizard (Magic 3) to be able to change an already conjured element.

When two elements of different temperatures collide, their temperature changes, along with the guiding (control) over it.

When flat (cold) or sharp (hot) reaches natural (warm), the temperature of the natural converts to the temperature of the other and the natural sorcerer loses the guiding of the Chord (element). Cold + warm = cold; Hot + warm = hot. If flat and sharp collide they, both become natural and their sorcerers lose their guiding on them.
