Yu's POV:
"Shin?" My voice echos in the all-too-familiar Velvet Room.
"...Hey," he smiles gently.
Marie, Margaret and Igor are all here, too. Shin sits next to Marie, as if he's been waiting for me.
"Holy shit, Shin..." I breathe, jumping out of my seat to run to him.
"W-woah," he splutters as I push him backwards onto the seat in order to embrace him.
"F-fuck, Shin..." I whisper.
"It's okay," he says softly, rubbing his hand up and down my back.
"Welcome to the Velvet Room," Igor finally announces, as I peel myself off Shin.
"I- I'm sorry, Igor," I mutter. "I'm sorry. I should have taken care of him. I'm so, so sorry. Please... please, don't make him suffer like this..."
"I'm afraid that is out of my control," he tuts.
"Yu, I'm not suffering," he smiles weakly, rubbing my arm.
"...But-"
"Hey... Don't worry about me."
"A-are you... real? Is... is this real?"
"This is a place between dream and reality," Igor recites. "Mind and matter."
"So... you're the real Shin?" I swallow hard, feeling my heartbeat slow.
He nods. "I'm offended you doubted me," he chuckles.
"Why..." I begin. "Why am I here?"
"To say goodbye," Igor says. "Officially."
"...What?"
"The two of you shared a tremendous power, and bond, at that."
"We did, huh?" Shin looks at the ground, squeezing my hand.
"Two Wild Cards on the same journey..." He ponders. "Who knew, hm? This will be the last time you have the chance to see him."
"What?" I turn to face him.
"As soon as you wake up, he will be gone for good."
"No..." I murmur. A sensation of tingly chills travel down my back.
"I'm sorry," Igor apologizes.
"C-can't you save him?" I beg.
"Yu..." Shin says quietly.
"Please, Igor," I mutter. "You have to he able to do something."
"I'm afraid the fate of our guests are left up to them."
"You think he chose to die!?" I scoff.
"Yu," Shin tries again.
"You must understand. I cannot-"
"Enough with the bullshit!" I snap. "You can save him. Of course you can! You're the one who gave him this power. This is all your fault!"
"Yosuke's the one who denies it," Shin says. "You're not. You're the one who accepts it for what it is, Yu. Even though it's hard... You understand that what happened to me was for the best."
"That's not-"
"Face it, koibito. I'm not coming back. Nothing you can say or do will ever change that."
"Yosuke needs you."
He shakes his head, smiling softly. "He doesn't."
"Your father kicked him out of his own damn house, Shin! He needs his brother!"
