Erika's POV

It had been a few weeks since Kina's break up from Amelia. I had seen Kina everyday since then to choreograph our dances for the competition this weekend.

"Stop it" I giggled. Kina flicked my ponytail into my face again chuckling in amusement every time my hair hit my face.

"You're so annoying" I pouted. Kina chuckled and pulled me into her for a hug. She pat my head gently causing me to squirm in her arms. I pushed her away slightly so I could look her in the eye.

"You're so beautiful" Kina looked at me in admiration. My cheeks flushed bright pink at her words. Kina rarely complimented me and merely hearing her words made my heart race. I gazed into Kina's eyes as they turned a darkened shade of grey from their usual light grey colour. Something about it sent a shiver down my spine.

"Do you want to work on our duet now?" I whispered. Kina's eyes closed for a moment before she released me from her embrace.

"So this weekend is Valentine's Day so do you want to do a-" she cut me off.

"Romantic duet?" she chuckled.

"You read my mind" I giggled. She nodded and pulled out her phone so we could choose a song.

"If we want extra points with the judges we should make the dance sexy because that always works in our favour" she suggested.

I nodded and moved closer to her so I could help with the song choice. She shivered as I placed my hand on her shoulder. Electricity traveled through my fingers causing my whole body to heat up at the simple contact between us.

"We should do Malamente" we said in synch.

"You read my mind again" I beamed. Kina draped her arm over my shoulder as we walked towards the mirrors so we could choreograph the dance and I noticed the corners of her mouth turn up ever so slightly.

We sat close together as we listened to the song together. I formulated choreography in my head as the song progressed.

"Wait go back thirty seconds please" I asked. Kina went back in the song and I allowed my ideas to construct in my head.

"I have something for the beginning and I'm guessing you have an idea for this part?" Kina asked. I nodded in agreement. She stood up and offered me her hand so I could get up too. I took her hand and tried to pull her down to me but failed miserably. She used her strength to pull me into her arms.

"Not this time beautiful" I heard her say under her breath. A small smile crept onto my face as I pretended not to hear her. We began the long process of creating a masterpiece that was guaranteed to win us a top spot.

After what felt like hours Kina and I finally took a break from choreographing our duet. I sat against the studio mirrors and Kina lay her head in my lap. We had become quite close in these last few weeks and any sign of awkwardness between us.

"How many languages do you speak?" Kina asked out of the blue. I raised my eyebrows in confusion at the sudden question but answered nonetheless.

"Well I'm fluent in Korean and English and I can kinda speak Japanese" I answered truthfully.

"If only I was multilingual. The only language I can speak is English"

"It's all fun and games being multilingual until you have to start asking people what the English word for things are" I admitted causing Kina to chuckle. A comfortable silence fell over us. We stayed in comfortable silence for a few minutes as I gently played with her short dark hair.

"Do you have a Valentine?" Kina looked up at me, searching my face for the answer before I said a word.

"Not yet. Nobody has asked me yet" I sighed.

"Good. Then you can be my Valentine"

"Smooth move Kina"

"I don't hear you complaining" she smirked. I rolled my eyes but I couldn't help but smile.

"See you're smiling that must mean yes" Kina teased. I giggled at her childish behaviour.

"Sure I'll be your Valentine" I said finally.

She silently celebrated causing me to laugh again.

Again there was silence.

Just Kina and I acting as if we've known each other forever. Kina suddenly got up and pulled me up with her.

"What are we doing?" I asked.

"We're going to practice the dance one more time but this time with more chemistry than before." My breath hitched in my throat at her words but I didn't complain.

Kina started the song again and we ran through the dance. This time I wasn't afraid to touch her and she was not afraid to hold me close to her as if we were a real couple.

The music ended and so did the dance but Kina still held me close to her.

Her face was inches away from mine and then...

She kissed me.

The kiss was fleeting and it left me wanting more. I pulled her back in and placed my lips on hers. Sparks flew around the room and that feeling in my chest returned.

One of her arms went down to my waist and the other hand lightly cupped my cheek. I reluctantly pulled away.

Our breath was heavy and I focused my attention to the floor.

"Look at me Erika. I want to see your beautiful eyes" she murmured. Her voice was raspy from the kiss.

She gently lifted my chin forcing me to look at her. Her grey eyes were tinged with darkness though I couldn't tell if it was lust, excitement or both.

I never wanted this moment to end but I knew deep down that it had to.

"Kina we should go home we have school tomorrow" I whispered.

Kina kissed me gently again and when she pulled away my eyes remained closed for a few moments more as I savoured the feeling of her lips on mine.

We both left at the same time. The whole ride home I replayed the kiss in my head.

My first kiss...

-

"WHAT!?" Maya exclaimed. I shushed her as I closed my locker door.

"You cannot tell anyone" I lowered my voice to avoid anyone else hearing my words. Maya squealed and clapped her hands.

"I told you it would happen. I told you, you loved her" she celebrated. I nudged her in the ribs and shushed her again.

"This is why I didn't want to tell you" I groaned.

We walked to our first lesson together as I got flashbacks to the kiss the day before. I was avoiding Kina because I didn't want to tell her that when she kissed me it was in fact my first kiss.

Maya and I got to class late as always and stalked to the back of the class without a word.

A group of eleventh graders came to our class half-way through the lesson to announce something.

"So everyone I know you might have heard some rumours that there's a school dance is coming up and we are here to tell you that the rumours are true" one of the girls cheered.

There were a number of excited whispers coming from all four corners of the room.

"The Valentines Day dance will take place this coming Friday which is in two days so prepare yourselves. Entry fee is ten bucks and the dance ends at eleven thirty. Thanks everyone" another boy said before the group left.

Everyone chatted excitedly about the dance as our teacher attempted to quiet us.

"Are you going to ask Kina to the dance?" Maya asked. I shrugged.

"Well she is my Valentine so I suppose we might go together" I said. I watched Maya's facial expression change as my words registered in her head.

"No fucking way" she said to herself before turning her attention back to the lesson. A thought pestered my mind for the remainder of the lesson.

Was I going to go with Kina to the dance?
