Monster Monster

By PJ Perry

Monster monster in the dark

Who gave rise to thee?

Your furnaced eyes shoot fire and spark

They burn, rage savagely

Your coned sharp teeth

Filed into grin

Beyond belief

You're coming in

You do knock first

not to be polite

But to make dread worse

Before you jump me in the night

You never come when I'm awake

Or even in my sleep

It's the in between you make me shake

When my eyes can hardly peep

Under the covers I do hide

I can hear you all around me

To me you come and sit beside

For you own the skeleton key

You feed from my fear

For as long as it takes

If it takes all year

To eat my quakes

And when I feel a little brave

Through a hole I'll have a peek

But courageousness you do not crave

You've left to find more of the weak!
