One Man's Life

Once there was a man,

a man full of joy.

He had two beautiful kids

and an even more beautiful wife.

and he was happy.

God treated him well,

he thought, and sat back to relax

in the reclining chair he just bought.

The world was good to him,

he was one of the lucky ones.

But like all good things,

his life had to come to an end.

One day he would be dead

and he couldn't escape that fact,

he just hoped it wouldn't be soon...

The next day he got some news

when he came home and opened the door

his wife told him she was pregnant.

He was overjoyed,

cursing all the thoughts he just had.

He couldn't believe his luck,

he actually never did

because there was no luck ion this pregnancy

as he figured out on delivery day.

He was at work very excited,

all his coworkers were happy for him,

he was the luckiest man alive.

He got the call he was waiting for

sooner than he thought he would.

He picked the phone up with a smile

but by the end of the phone call

the smile had turned into a frown

and tears swelled up in his eyes.

He threw the phone to the ground

and walked out the door

leaving all of his work behind.

He arrived at his house

and took his kids with him

all the while telling them

everything would be alright

and that he loved them dearly.

They arrived at the hospital

and walked in with no permission,

he just had to see his wife.

To the emergency wing they went,

he spotted his wife quite quickly

and led his kids to the room.

A nurse attempted to stop them

but he shoved her out of the way.

He knelt before the bed that his wife laid on

and saw her chest was not moving.

He weeped quietly into the sheets.

His kids cried too, they realized what had happened

as he realized what he had to do.

He led his children to the roof

just to get some fresh air.

He told his kids to hold his hands

and they obeyed him unquestioningly.

He closed his eyes then

and flung all three of them off the roof,

knowing one thing for certain...

he could not live anymore.
