Never Be Like You- Flume
Sleepless- Flume
Maddie

Ashton and I walk through the halls of the compound on our way to his parents' house, where Shauna and my mother will be staying while we go get Ty. Ashton holds Hannah and her diaper bag and I hold Dylan and his bag.

I could've managed it all by myself, but I just wasn't feeling up to it today.

We turn down Shauna and Zeke's hall, and Ashton hugs Hannah. "Hannah Banana!" He exclaims, making her giggle. Dylan stares up at me in a mesmerized manner, and I smile down at him. We approach Shauna's door, and I knock on it. My mother answers it, smiling.

"Come in." She opens the door for us, and we both step inside, setting down bags and the babies. I place Dylan in Shauna's arms, and Ashton places Hannah on the floor.

My mother shuts the door, then walks over to stand in front of us. "Don't do anything stupid. I don't want to hear word of you two being tricked and then held captive like Ty." She raises her eyebrows, and we nod.

She sits down next to Shauna. "Watch out for the traps," she says to us. "Also watch out for the guards. They're everywhere." She closes her eyes and purses her lips, then smiles at us.

"Hopefully you guys can get Ty back." Shauna says, beaming. "You guys be safe and don't get yourselves into trouble." We nod once again, and then turn to leave. We're halfway out the door, but Hannah starts crying.

"Mama NO!" Hannah screeches, and I look at Ashton, who bites his lip in confusion. I turn back and crouch down in front of the crying Hannah. I pick up her stuffed bear and hand it to her, then hug her.

"Mama's going to get Da, sweetheart." I whisper to Hannah, kissing her cheek.

"DA!" Hannah cries out, clutching the bear close to her. "MISS DA!" She shouts. I pat her back as she coughs a little bit, and then hug her and kiss her once more.

"Da and I will both be back soon, Hannah. I promise." I say, then tell her goodbye. I turn and walk out with Ashton, leaving Hannah behind with Dylan, both of them crying their heads off. It pains me to do that, but I need to save Ty. He's going to die if we don't save him.

Ashton and I walk down to the weapons lab once we leave Shauna and Zeke's apartment, which is just a few floors above the lab. My father and Zeke wait for us there.

We trample down the steps on a metal stairwell, eventually ending up at the weapons lab, which just looks like a big black safe from the outside.

We knock on the door five times, and my father opens up the door. He ushers us inside, then closes the door behind us.

My father hands Ashton and I both jackets that have many pockets for ammo, and we pull them on, zipping them and buttoning them up. The jackets that we wear mimic those that Zeke and my father wear. "I guess it's good that Lynn works down here, that way no one will be suspicious about the fact that we're in here." Zeke says optimistically to try to get our minds off of Ty. I nod.

Zeke hands both Ashton and I guns and ammo, telling us to put those in our pockets. We do, and then we are both handed a knife each.

"We'll discuss our final plan on the train." My father says roughly, and then leads us out of the lab. He locks the door back, and then nods at us as we head to ground level and eventually the train tracks.

While we wait for the train, I tap my foot. Ashton examines the gun that he holds, and my father and Zeke discuss the plans to get inside without being noticed.

Soon, I feel the ground vibrating and I hear the blaring of a horn. The train. I begin to run, leading the pack of us in our jackets filled with ammo and guns on our backs, knives in our pockets. I grab a hold of the metal bar that makes up the handle, and then slam my hand on the open button. The door pulls away from the train cart wall, and I leap inside. I catch my breath just as Ashton gets on, and he asks if I'm okay.

I nod, then close my eyes. When I reopen them, Zeke stands in the train and my father leaps for the train. He makes it inside, and we all form a circle.

"There's a back entrance into the headquarters near Michigan Street in an abandoned alley. We take that way in, then we follow a track of hallways to a service elevator, which we will use to get to the eighth floor, where the prisoners are held. Then, there should be a key somewhere that will unlock Ty's door. Got it?" Zeke asks, and I look around at everyone.

"Yeah," I say. "Do we really think this is gonna work?" I inquire.

Zeke shrugs. "It's gonna have to." He says simply, and I nod.

I move to stand at the opening of the train cart. The train begins its ascent to the highest tracks in the city, near the Hub and the Upper Levels building, on Erudite's west side of the sector.

The tracks swirl around the Hub, shaking my body back and forth, but then making me sway as the train begins to descend back to regular tracks as we approach Erudite.

"We have to jump off before we reach the Headquarters, okay?" I state, and they all nod. When the tracks reach their lowest point, near Michigan Street, I leap out of the train.

I then race to a building, hiding in the alley. I wave to Ashton and Zeke, who follow, and then we all wave to my father, who then follows us.

We run in a straight line to the Headquarters. It's ordered, Zeke, me, Ashton, and then my father. Zeke makes a turn, and I see the Erudite eye on a door meant for delivery trucks. This is it. There's a small door near the truck entrance, and Zeke nods at it.

He then checks the perimeter before leading us to the door. We approach it, and Zeke pulls on it. It doesn't budge, so he pulls a flashlight out of his jacket. We juggle around him so that the keypad is darker, and he turns it on. It's a black-light. I see the numbers illuminate from the fingerprints. "314...what?" Zeke inquires as he begins punching in numbers.

I think about it for a second. What would the Erudite make their entrance code? It has to be something that's related to math or science, of course. That's it! "Zeke," I say, taking the flashlight and beginning to punch in numbers. 3, 1, 4, 1, 5, 9, and 2. "It's the first digits of the approximate value of Pi."

I finish and the door clicks, unlocking. "Okay," Zeke says, then pauses. I laugh. "Whatever that means...let's just get out of here as soon as possible." We enter and he shuts the door behind us, and then switches places with my father.

My father clicks a bullet into the chamber of his gun, and then aims his gun in front of him as we walk further into the hallway, further into the compound, further from safety.

We turn, and there's a guard. "Oh," He says when he sees us. He struggles to reach for his gun because my father sends an uppercut to his jaw with the butt of his gun. "Shit! You all have to be stopped right now!" He exclaims, and my father aims his gun and turns his head. He pulls the trigger without a second thought.

The guard's body crumples to the floor, and we keep walking. There are screens here and there on the walls with a man in Erudite blue talking monotonously about the Abnegation giving away important resources to the factionless. Well, I guess that's why Erudite is in charge of the city now and not Abnegation. They have everyone convinced that the Abnegation are bad.

I put my thoughts in the back of my mind, now paying attention to the hallway. We make a few more turns and are rewarded with the service elevator. We press the button to open the door, and it opens, empty. We step inside, and I press the 8 button.

The doors shut almost automatically, and soon I can feel my stomach dropping as we surge upward, closer to Ty. I smile. I close my eyes, staring at the silver metallic doors of the elevator. I look over at Ashton and he frowns at me. I wonder if anyone has stumbled upon the guard that we just shot yet. If they have, do they suspect that it was a few rogue Dauntless, here to save their relative that was captured?

As soon as my thoughts begin to take control, the elevator doors open silently. We all step out, and the hallway suddenly appears familiar. This is the same hallway that Ty and I broke out of last time we were here, when Jordan kidnapped us.

"I'll lead," I whisper, now moving to hold my gun in front of me, the bullet clicked into the chamber and my finger hovering over the trigger. I peer around a corner and see a guard pacing back and forth down the hallway. I turn back and tell them to keep watch, then stick my gun around the corner, aiming at the guard who's back is to me. I hold my hand on the trigger, inhale, exhale, then I fire.

I see the tiny bullet as it launches from the gun and embeds itself in the guard's back not a second after I fire it. A dash of guilt sinks in, but I dismiss it before I can think of it. The guard groans quietly and then collides with the floor, dead or dying.

We march down the hallway and I look in all of the cells, seeing only empty cells and cells with other Erudite in them. No Ty. I turn and peer around the corner of another hallway and see that there are cells in this one, too.

A guard sits at the end of the hallway, sipping on coffee. Ashton pulls out a bullet to put into his gun, but it slips out of his hand and hits the ground with a jingle. "Fuck." He whispers, and Zeke elbows his son in the ribs. Ashton groans, and I hear footsteps in the hallway ahead of us.

I hold my gun out and just as the guard turns into the hallway, I fire. A gurgling sound emits from his throat as he falls forward, the blood pooling around his body almost immediately.

I race down the hallway and see three Amity members, two Candor members, and then I fall upon the last cell.

This has to be it. Ty has to be here.

I see Dauntless Black and brunette hair. I can tell from here that it's Ty. He's currently looking out the window, so I wave Zeke over to break the electronic lock off of his cell. "It might be Pi. 3141592," I say to him and he nods. I walk back to the mouth of the hallway to keep watch with Ashton. I hear the sound of beeping from where Zeke is trying to use that code, but soon, there's a metal on metal screeching. I dismiss it. Jeanine undoubtedly has guards coming for us now.

I hear the release of steam and I turn.

>>                 Ty

After the whole robot Maddie test, I was sent back to my cell and told that I would have testing this afternoon.

I really don't want to go back to that lab, but I guess this is routine now. I wake up everyday thinking that it will be the day that I'm rescued, but it never happens. I can't escape on my own, I'm not strong enough or smart enough or even fast enough.

Today marks one week of being in this disinfectant scented hell and no one has come to rescue me. Not Maddie, not my father, no one. I bet that no one has even bothered to think about me. It's not like you matter, anyway, my subconscious reminds me, and I sigh.

I sigh, then turn and look out my window. It gets boring sometimes, just sitting in this cell, staring out the window and thinking about—bang!

I hear a loud noise from outside my cell, like a gunshot. It sounded like glass cracking. I see nothing outside of my cell. Everything looks normal, no dead bodies. I shrug, thinking it's just my imagination, and turn back around.

I hold onto the bars of the window as I look out of it, looking down at my black clothing and out to the dilapidated buildings ahead and then a repetitive thought shoots through my mind.

I don't belong here.

I belong in Dauntless.

I feel a knot forming in my throat, and close my eyes, now laying my forehead against the bars of the window. There's a cool breeze blowing against my face, and I smile. This is the closest that I'll probably ever get to freedom, I remind myself. I soon think of Dauntless and how beautiful it is—the lamps that come on in the Pit's lower chamber once the sun goes down, the Pit in general...everything.

I hear footsteps outside my door, but I ignore them. It's bound to be a guard or one of Jeanine's lackeys coming for me to remind me that it's time for another Divergent experiment or routine test to see how my mind works, or something else to that effect.

I hear slight beeping. I sigh, now knowing that it's the guards. I tense up and wait for the sound of steam being released, but it never comes. Maybe the person in the guard next to me is being taken somewhere. Jeanine wants me to break, so she's probably just letting me sit in this cell until I go insane. Well, I'm almost to the point of a psychotic break, so I guess Jeanine wins. That's when I hear the echoing and eardrum shattering sound of metal on metal and I turn around. I have to rub my eyes to make sure I'm not dreaming what I'm seeing. I see Four standing alongside my father as they try to pop the lock off of my cell door.

Is Maddie with them?

I pound on the door and my father beams at me. He twists something around for a second, then presses a button. I hear a ching sound, and then my father removes the black bubble like tool he had on the door.

He puts his finger into the door, and twists it around, his eyebrows furrowed and his eyes concentrated. The door soon pops open with the sound of the release of steam, and I step out, saying nothing, but immediately hugging my father. I pull away and look ahead, then smile at what I see.

>>             Maddie

Ty walks out of his cell and falls into his father's arms. His fingers press into Zeke's back as he hugs him, and I almost start crying. He pulls away and looks in our direction. He stops dead in his tracks when his eyes meet mine. He stands in front of Zeke and my father now and his face is stubble-covered and his eyes hold bags underneath them.

His eyes meet mine and I hand Ashton my gun, not believing what I'm seeing in front of me. "Maddie," Ty says softly, his emerald green eyes yearning for me.

"Ty," I cry out, then run into his arms, kissing him. He hugs me, and I begin to cry. We spin around, and it feels like it's just the two of us. The sheer reality of even thinking that he could be gone was enough for me to lose my sanity. I was close to giving up on my children and my parents and Ty and even myself.

One week of torture, of thinking he was dead. One week of being separated from him, separated from my safety. It's not until now that I realize that my legs are wrapped around his waist, that we're still holding onto our kiss.

I press our lips together, wrapping my arms around him. He smiles, then pulls me close to him. I laugh and pull away slowly before leaning our foreheads together. "I love you, Maddie," Ty whispers quietly, his voice hoarse.

I bite my lip as I smile. "I love you too, Ty," I tell him. I kiss him once more, then pull away when Ashton says that we need to run. He hands me my gun, and Ty grabs a gun from the guard that we shot earlier.

Ashton fires three shots, and I hear a few loud thuds. "Go!" Ashton hisses and we all race forward, running through the hallway that holds the empty cells and the Erudite members, who are now pounding on the glass doors to their cells.

There isn't just one dead body there in the hallway now, but four. All of the bodies are guards. Surprisingly, none of us have been injured or even killed yet.

We turn, going back down the hallway that the service elevator is on. We press the button to open the doors, and we have to wait for a second. The doors open, and Jordan steps forward, then realizes that it's us.

"What do we have here?" He asks, folding his arms behind his back. "We've got the idiot, oh, and his dumb brother. We've got Fourteen and the shitty uncle. Oh, and Madison." He curls his lips into a smile, and I shake my head at him. He presses a button on his watch, then smirks. "I've got some rogue Dauntless here trying to help Tyler Pedrad escape. We need reinforcements. Also," he glances around at us, "Pull the alarm."

I hold my gun out, and allow my finger to hover over the trigger.

Red lights begin to flash around us, and a siren goes off. A robotic voice comes over on a loud speaker and issued warnings about criminals in the building.

"Are you fucking serious?" I retort as I hold the gun where I'm ready to shoot it. I laugh. "You know I'm not afraid to shoot this gun, right?" I ask. Jordan gulps.

"Either get out of our way, or get shot. Which will it be?" Zeke threatens, and Jordan gulps again, now beginning to retreat into the elevator. He doesn't make a decision fast enough, so I shoot him in the foot that Ty stabbed the last time he was holding us captive, about a year ago.

"You fucking bitch!" Jordan shouts as he falls to the ground, clutching his foot. "I fucking hate you! You mother fuckers are gonna get it eventually!" My father reaches forward and grabs Jordan by the arm, throwing him out of the elevator doorway into the hallway.

Jordan's body collides with the linoleum floor and he groans, still holding onto his foot. Blood soon seeps onto the floor as Jordan rolls around in pain. When my father is done with Jordan, he then ushers us into the elevator.

We press the first floor button and then the doors close, and Ashton grins. "Nice use of profanity," He chuckles.

"Grade A." Zeke laughs and we all smile. That's when Zeke smirks. "It's nothing that Ty hasn't heard before, though," He says, referring to my dirty talk with Ty during sex. My father gasps, and Ty's face turns red. I bury my face into his arm as I feel my cheeks reddening, and Zeke giggles. "Embarrassing my son and his girl, yeah, that's my job." Zeke winks at Ty and I, and I only smile.

I turn back around and look at Ty before we have to fight our way out of here. He looks down at me and I smile before pressing a kiss to his lips. He grins, his face turning sort of red as the doors open.

We all hold our guns at the ready, and then walk out, one at a time. I turn around after we've been walking for a few seconds and realize that Ty isn't there. He's standing back by the elevator, a hand on his forehead, the other hand holding his gun limply at his side. I turn and run back to him. "Ty, come on!" I say to him as I try to pull him with me. He doesn't move.

"Maybe I should stay," He mumbles, then looks down at the ground. "They're just gonna come looking for me again. If I'm here, the kids are safe. That's all that matters. They have to be safe."

I place my hand on his cheek. "Ty," I whisper, "The kids need you. If you're home, they're safer than they are if you're gone."

I hear footsteps behind us and I know that everyone else has noticed the lack of our presence. "How?" He asks, tears rolling down his cheeks. "I'm the reason that they're going to be living in hiding forever."

"No," I say, "Jeanine is using you to get information about our children. If you stay, she'll eventually have gathered enough information to take Hannah and Dylan away from you and I, and we'll be helpless to stop her. If you don't leave now, she'll kill you. You'll die in here."

His eyes dart back and forth across my face before he frowns. "Maybe I deserve to die in here," He whispers, and I shake my head. His body is swaying now, so I pull as hard as I can and we begin walking back to the crossing point in the hallways.

"What happened back there?" My father asks when we arrive where they're standing. Ty and I shake our heads, and my father's eyebrows furrow before he nods. We pass by the body of the first guard that we shot, then approach the door. That's when I see bullet holes begin to decorate the white wall ahead of us.

Shit.

They're sending the guards after us. "We've got to run." Ashton shouts as he takes off running toward the door as he fires his gun. He slams on the handle that opens the door and then runs out.

We stand there, waiting for a panicked Zeke to give us the next instructions. He's mainly the one behind this whole idea of getting Ty out, seeing how he's been watching Erudite for the past week and also studied the map.

Guards turn and stand in front of us. There's four of them. One of the ones in the middle laughs at us. "Halt! Who are you?" He asks as he steps forward, his gun aimed at Ty. The guard reaches an arm out towards Ty and daintily touches his left arm, then runs it down to his wrist, where a small plastic band is.

I look up at Ty and see that he's staring ahead, a panicked look on his face, a look of fear. I look back down and the guard turns the wristband over to the side with writing on it. "Tyler Pedrad. Hm," he looks into Ty's eyes, "Trying to escape?"

Ty says nothing, only gulps. The guard backs away, moving to stand back in the line with the other three guards.

"Well, I guess we'll just have to arrest you all. You know, you're actually trying to carry out a very dangerous operation here today—coming into this place and trying to help our most valuable prisoner escape." He looks down the row of us, his eyes so dark brown that they almost appear black. His eyes narrow when he looks at me, and I freeze.

I know this guard. He was one of the guards who carried me to the room where Jordan was going to give me the operation to get rid of Dylan and then erase my memory of Ty.

"But since he's one of the strongest Divergents in the city, and you are probably all related to him in some way, you're probably all Divergents too." The guard says, then turns around.

He returns with a small remote, and I gulp. It's the same remote from my nightmare that I had where Ty almost killed me in the lab.

He steps forward and holds the remote up to my face. It's blue holographic technology shows the faction symbols spinning before all of the ones that I have the aptitude for light up in red, like the lights that flash in the hallway that we stand in. The remote then makes a distorted beeping sound.

"Madison Eaton," the remote reveals my results and my identity. I frown when Eaton is used for my last name and not Pedrad. "Divergent, One hundred percent." I can see out of the corner of my eye my father closing his eyes and releasing a breath. The guard narrows his eyes at us, and Ty and I suck in a breath.

There's a large screen on the wall that has a black background. Blue holographic images of my father, Zeke, Ashton, Ty and I are on it, with our names under our pictures. Red banners crawl across the screen, the words WARNING: FUGITIVES AND CRIMINALS IN BUILDING, crossing the screen. I look again at our names under our profiles.

Tobias Eaton, Ezekiel Pedrad, Ashton Pedrad, and Madison Eaton. Tyler Pedrad.

I look up at Ty and frown. He turns to look down at me. He frowns as well, his emerald green eyes not as light as they usually are. Suddenly I release Ty's gaze as I see a small amount of light being shed into the room.

It's coming from the door. It's Ashton. He sticks his gun in and aims it at the guards. It takes him a second but then he fires the gun and hits one of the guards in the back.

My father and Zeke then both fire at the other two in front of them, leaving only the main guard who does all of the talking alive.

"You guys are smart, but also dumb. You think I don't have reinforcements coming right now?" He says, and Zeke pulls the trigger of his gun and shoots him. He clutches his side and then crumples to the ground, groaning and muttering profanities.

"Go." Zeke says and we all run towards the door, my father hiding behind a brick building and firing his gun at the guards coming right now since he has incredible aim. We all push to get out of the compound, then follow a frightened Ashton to the train tracks near Michigan Street. The light nearly blinds me since I hadn't seen any colors other than white and blue.

We race through the alleys, hearing gunshots behind us. Soon, we're far enough away that they just sound like echoes. We run to the train tracks that are just by the alley and leap onto the train.

When everyone is in, Ty and I stand by the door. Ty leans against the wall of the opening, and I stand directly in front of him, my body pressed against his.

He has an arm wrapped around me, and my head is turned into his neck where my forehead is pressed against his skin but I can still see the passing city before us.

"Ty," I whisper.

"Hm?" He mumbles.

"I don't think you actually know how much I've missed you since you were captured." I say.

"How much have you missed me?" He smirks.

"I don't know how to put it in words." I say, "But I've missed you this much." I whisper, then slam my lips to his. He smiles through the kiss, and I know that when we get back, we won't have any time together like this, so I continue to kiss him.

My father and Ashton and Zeke clap for us from behind us as we pull away and stare into each other's eyes. "I love you, Maddie." Ty whispers as he wraps an arm around me.

"I love you too, Ty. So much." I say, and then we both turn to look at the passing city before us, and the sunlight as it reflects off of the glass buildings on this happy day.

I lay my head on his shoulder. "Forever?" I ask near silently.

Ty smiles. "Forever."
