Song: Where are Ü Now- Skrillex and Diplo feat. Justin Bieber
••••
I step into the Initiates dormitory, and pull out my flashlight. I turn it on, and look to see if anyone is awake.
"Get Up!" I shout loudly. They all scatter. "Dress and Meet at the train tracks in five minutes or you're out." I say.
Ty and Hunter stand out in the hallway. They're debating who is going to be team captain. I step out, and they're playing Rock, Paper, Scissors.
"Who won?" I ask. "We're tied." Ty groans. "Rock, paper, scissors!" Ty says, and throws out a rock. Hunter throws a paper, and Ty curses himself.
"Yes." Hunter shouts, jumping up and down. "Alright, c'mon, we need to get to the tracks." I say, laughing.
We jog to the door near the net, which leads to the tracks near the pier. I pull out the boxes that we lined up earlier with the guns and paintballs. "No, honey, I got it. You're pregnant." Ty says.
"I can-" I start. "No risks. No regrets." He says sternly. He sets them down near the train tracks, and pulls out a gun and cartridge for each of the three of us.
I grasp the flags, handing Hunter the neon orange one. They illuminate and glow in the dark. I take the neon yellow-green one and shove it in my back pocket. He does the same with his.
While we wait for the initiates, I look at the box. It's a wooden crate, with PAINTBALLS written on it in spray paint on all capitals. Soon, Marie, Adam, and Trey arrive at the tracks. They grab a gun and package of paintballs each.
The wind whips loose pieces of hair from my ponytail into my face. I tuck them behind my ears to keep them from blowing.
Garrett and Jerry arrive with Hannah and Alyssa at their sides. They each grab a cartridge and gun. I hear metal on metal screeching, and I know the train is coming.
I sling my gun over my shoulder, and begin to sprint, and everyone else does as well. The train approaches, and I leap for the door.
I grab the handle, slamming my hand on the circular OPEN button, and as the door slides open, I climb in.
I lean against the wall, catching my breath. Soon, Ty and Hunter are in the train cart, as well as some of the initiates.
Ty slings his arm around me. "You okay?" He asks, pulling me to his side. "Yeah, just need to catch my... breath." I say. He nods, pushing the piece of hair that always falls into his face back.
Alyssa walks up to us. "Hey hottie," she says lightly. "How about a date?" Ty looks at her in utter disgust.
He holds up his left hand, rubbing his fingers on his ring. "Married." He says. "She doesn't have to know," Alyssa flips her ponytail back.
I step in. "She already does." I say, quietly, my voice threatening. "Why would he marry a bag like you?" She says, chewing her tongue.
"C'mere," Ty says. "Let me tell you a secret." Ty walks to the corner of the train cart, and puts his face to her ear. She listens intently.
My heart aches. What if he chooses her over me?
He pulls his arm back, and send a punch to her face. "I love her." He says.
Everyone looks in his direction. Alyssa stumbles back, trying to regain her balance.
She leans against the wall near the corner of the cart, gripping her hands to her cheek, which is red from the impact.
I walk over to her. "Looks like someone isn't prepared for fights." I say, "What a shame."
"Back to your normal lives." Hunter says. We all go back to what we were doing.
Marie and Jerry struggle to reach the train cart. Hunter helps them up, as well as Garrett.
Once everyone is in, I begin my speech.
I explain the rules about the flags, and then finish by saying, "Hunter and I will be the team captains.
"I don't want to be on either of their teams. They're monsters." Alyssa glares at us. "You can either be on a team, or you can get out of the train and walk yourself to factionless. What'll it be?" I say, the instructor in me kicking in.
"Ugh." She stands up. "Forget you all. But I'll stay." She glares at us. "Good choice." I say, turning and walking away from her.
"Let's choose teams." Hunter suggests. I nod. "You first." He says. I remember my father's plan for Capture the Flag. "Ty," I say. He stands beside me, holding his gun.
Alyssa practically gags. I point my gun at her. She stops immediately.
"Malory." Hunter says. She's a Dauntless Born. Hunter and I know them all.
"Adam." I say. He steps up beside me, so close that I can feel the heat radiating off of his body. "You, what's your name." Hunter says, pointing at Jerry. "Jerry." He says, and goes to stand by Hunter.
"Marie." I say, my voice becoming more on edge by the second. "Hannah." Hunter says. "Garrett." I say.
"Alyssa." Hunter points to her and she joins Hunter's side.
There's no way I'm letting that psychopathically inclined initiate freak be on my team. No way.
"Trey." I say. I glance at Hunter and he smirks. "Carson." Hunter chooses.
"Blaze." I say. "Jennie." Hunter says shortly. Then he smirks at me. I rub my fingers on the flag in my back pocket. "Lisa." I say.
Hunter finishes by saying. "Sofia."
"Alright. We're almost at the course for Capture the Flag." I say. "My team will jump off first."
With that, I leap out of the train into darkness. It hurts my feet on impact when I land, but the pain is gone in seconds. Ty follows, and all of the initiates on my team do as well.
"Where are we going to hide the flag?" I ask. "In a building, maybe?" Ty suggests. I nod.
"Follow me." I say. I run through the dew coated grass and moss to an abandoned building.
I step though an open window, and walk to the corner of the room. I hang the flag on a stairwell rail, and wait for everyone to arrive.
When they arrive, Adam suggests an idea. "We could have four guards, two guard the flag, and two others shoot anyone near at the windows; and three on defense. It's logical." He finishes, the Erudite coming out in him, full strength.
I nod. The other team should be jumping off now; we have some time to get situated in our places before the other team attacks.
"Blaze, Lisa, and Trey and Marie are guards. Garrett, Ty, and I will be on defense." I say. The Dauntless Borns are stronger. They will make better guards.
I also chose Marie and Trey to be guards because they aren't very fast. They're good at shooting though, so they'll be good.
"Let's go." I say, and step out of the abandoned building, my gun ready. I dash across a field, and to the bushes. I hear the pop of a gun, and I crouch.
I see a glowing stick and I know that it's a person. I shoot at the glowing stick, missing the first few times, but making it on the third. There were eight people on Hunter's team. Now there's seven.
"Disperse. Find the flag!" I whisper shout to Ty and Garrett.
I run toward the Erudite sector, the wind whipping my hair in my face. I pull the zipper on my jacket up higher, to my throat. I jog to the Bean, and climb on top of it.
I turn around, and look for a glowing spot. I'm searching, and then I feel pain in my abdomen. I look down and see a bright green splotch of paint on my stomach.
I feel a sensation of pain growing in my core, and then I think about the baby. I start to panic; I need to get to a hospital soon.
I hear a laugh below me, and I see none other than Alyssa herself.
She smiles and her teeth glint in the dark. "I told you I'd get revenge." She shouts up at me.
Then I feel a blindfold being tied over my eyes, and I punch, kick, and elbow the person behind me as hard as I can. I must miss, because I feel a foot make hard contact with the back of my knee.
My knees buckle and I fall onto the metal sculpture, my back slamming into it first. I can't catch my breath.
"He-" I start to scream, pleading for help. The person that blindfolded me sticks a piece of chemical cloth in my mouth.
I hear Alyssa climbing up on the Bean, and she slaps the person tying me up. She kicks my head.
"You jackass. Get her off the Bean and out of here." I kick around and feel my feet make contact with something. I hear a scream, and a loud smacking sound.
I stand up and yank the blindfold off my eyes. I pull the chemical gagging cloth out of my mouth. I turn and see a man in white in front of me, and I kick him in the stomach.
"Help!" I scream.
I punch the man in the chest, but he shows no emotion and doesn't move. "You know where Krystale is." He grimaces. He must be related to her.
"Tell us," he reaches in his back pocket for something, and I click the paintball into place in my gun. He pulls a gun out of his pocket, and stares at me with cold, hard eyes. "Or you die."
I pull the trigger, aiming the gun at his hand that holds the gun. It hits his fingers, and he drops the gun. I shoot him again in the chest.
He stumbles, and falls off of the Bean. I sit down on the shiny, cold, metal sculpture. I choke down a sob. Maybe I can make it to the Erudite Hospital.
I see spots on my vision, and I feel like I'm going to pass out. I climb off of the Bean, and walk toward the train tracks.
I look down at my shirt. I examine the green splotch, and grin at it. "Silly leaf, get off my shirt." I giggle. I must be delirious, I think to myself. I don't know what that cloth had on it, but it's like a combination of a peace serum and laughing gas.
I see a crowd of people at the train, including Ty. "Hey sexy. Let's have se-" I start. People are looking at me.
Ty covers my mouth, and pulls me off to the side. "What happened?" He asks. "Maddie you need to go to a hospital. Now." He says.
My head starts to clear at the sound of the train horn and Ty's voice. My mind is still kind of foggy, but it's clear enough to talk without sounding so delirious.
"I got shot in the stomach, and almost kidnapped." My vision is starting to fade.
Everything is blurry and multiplied. "Kicked...in...he-" I try to finish my sentence, but I begin to sway, and I pass out.
a/n: My heart hurts after writing that chapter. I was watching The Fault in Our Stars this afternoon and I was literally crying. Especially when Hazel had to give Augustus the eulogy before his funeral. I was dying in my bed from a flood of tears. Anyways, I'm super excited for July 6, because that is my big trip to the Texas Coast and I'm super excited because I've never been to South Padre. So, I'm packing these updates like sardines {if you read my update that I posted last night, you get it and win at life} because after reading hotel reviews about the hotel I'll be staying at, everyone {who has been there're past two months} has said that the Wi-Fi sucks; But then again, they've had Hurricane Bill down there and it's torn the place up. {I'm guessing.} So I don't think I'll be able to write much, and I'm also giving you guys some news! My new story, Midnight in the City, {MITC} will debut sometime this week. It was going to be a college story, but I did a little twisting of plot lines and tweaking of characters and settings, so the story should be more enjoyable. I'm hoping that you all read it though. Anyways, bye!
