Chapter 34: Telling Parents

🎉 I'm back! 🎉
Song: Years and Years- King
••••

Welcome to 'Flipping Your House!' The Dauntless way!" The announcer on the television screen says. I pull another potato chip out of the bag, shoving it into my mouth.

Ty sits beside me, his arm wrapped around my shoulder. "When are we going to tell our parents?" He questions.

A heavy sigh flies out of my mouth. "We could today if you want," I shrug. "It doesn't matter to me."

"Yeah. Let's do it now." He says. I set down my potato chips and stand up. "I'm going to go get ready." I say.

I walk upstairs, putting on a black t-shirt, and black pants. I slip on my combat boots and we're ready. I race downstairs, and we leave.

As we begin to walk past the chasm, which is near my parents' house, I begin to fidget.

I wasn't nervous back at the house, but now the nervousness kicks in. My hands start to shake; my palms sweat.

What if they don't want anything to do with me anymore? What if Ty leaves me?

The questions circle my head, making me dizzy. I do keep my composure though. We arrive at my parents' house.

I remember Ty saying that Shauna and Zeke were supposed to be over here today. Something about betting against my dad or something.

We knock on the door, and my mother answers it.

"Maddie! Ty!" She says, engulfing us into a hug. "It's so great to see you! Come in! Take a seat!" She says. My mother always has had the Abnegation hospitality. She tried to teach Hunter, Olivia, and I, but... She gave up.

We step inside, and walk over to the couch. I study the fabric to keep myself calmed down. If I look at little things, I stay calm and steady. It's a habit I've grown on over the years.

"We have news." We say as Shauna, Zeke, And my parents sit down. "What is it?" My father says, an edge to his voice.

He seems a little unhappy. He must have lost a bet; he gets really unhappy when he loses a bet.

My mother glares at him. He rolls his eyes.

I take a breath. I look at Ty. "Ty I can't." I say, my eyes welling up with tears. I start to breathe heavier.

My parents always told me that they didn't want me to have a baby at a young age. My parents had the triplets at a young age, but they said they didn't want that happening to me.

I breathe faster. My heart feels like it's going to spiral right out of my chest.

I look at Ty. "I'll tell them. Just calm down. It will be okay." He says, wrapping an arm around my small build.

"What is it? Did you guys get a new house or something?" Zeke asks, concerned. He's oblivious to everything. I shake my head, now calm again.

My heart is still beating fast; I can hear it in my ears. It makes me feel sick.

"We're..." Ty starts. He gazes at me, his eyes seem fiery with a passion I've only seen a few times before. He licks his lips, and stares at my parents.

"Expecting." The word glides out of his mouth in a quiver. They all gasp. A chorus of congratulations is said, and my mother hugs me. My father looks at Ty.

He then signals for Ty to meet him in the kitchen. Ty wipes his hands on his pants and then walks toward my father. "Wish me luck." He says as he stands.

Good luck, seriously." I say to him, and he smiles. My mother sits down beside me.

"You're becoming a bright, smart, young girl." She tucks a piece of hair behind my ear. "I'm very proud."

"Thanks mom." I say. Alex walks out of his bedroom toward the living room. "What's everyone cheering about?" He asks.

"Maddie is pregnant." Zeke says, a bottle of beer in his hand. "So I believe a celebration is appropriate." He uses everything as an excuse to drink.

Alex looks at me. My mother gets up, seeing how Alex is coming toward me.

He jumps into the couch, making me rock back and forth. "So you two did the frick-frack?" He asks, sighing.

I nod, my face turning a bright red.

"I'm going to be an uncle." He says, looking at the ceiling with a sense of authority. "You and Hunter and Ashton are all going to be uncles." I say, raising my eyebrows. He grins.

"Ashton is super cool!" Alex says, and I nod.

"That's who you got the word frick-frack from isn't it?" I ask, licking my lips. He nods and giggles. "Well there is only one person you could get that from. Ashton always runs around shouting, FRICK FRACK TICKETY TACK!, everywhere he goes." I shrug.

His eyes tear up. "Well, Congrats on the baby, sis." He punches my arm. "Thanks." I say sheepishly.

I still feel jittery, as if I was almost pushed off a building. I breathe out, trying to calm down. I wipe my sweaty palms on my jeans and look up at the ceiling.

Ty's POV:

Maddie's father signals for me to come to him. It kind of scares me, the fact that he's giving me a look like he's burning me alive in his mind.

I reluctantly stand up, wiping my sweaty palms off on my pants, and walk toward him. He grabs my shoulder roughly and takes me into the kitchen.

"Ty." He says in a deep voice. "Did you use protection?" My face is a fire-engine red from embarrassment, but I shake my head.

"We're married. I figured it was okay if we didn't use a co-" I start. He slams his fist down on the table.

"That's not an exc-" He is about to rant, but I cut him off.

"What is your problem? Why are you so obsessed with our lives?." I ask. He's silent for a moment. "We've talked about it, okay? We both want children." I spit. He just looks at his shoes while breathing heavily.

"Very well." He says, "you could have said that and I wouldn't have yelled. And I'm not obsessed with your lives, I just have to make sure that you're safe." He pulls his sleeves down and tells me to leave the kitchen, which I gladly do so.

Maddie's POV

Ty comes out from the kitchen, looking a little shaken.

"What was it?" I ask. He sits down, then takes my hand. I look at him, confused.

"I just got into a small argument with your father over condoms. You should be glad that you didn't have to hear him," Ty says, running a hand down his face.

I grit my teeth as I look up at my father, who stands by Zeke, smiling and joking and acting as if nothing had ever happened.

"I'm sorry, Ty." I say as I lean into him. He wraps an arm around me, kissing my temple. We lean back into the couch, just like that. When my father looks over at us, his expression is a mixture of a glare and a grimace.

If he doesn't like Ty, then why did he even let me marry him. To really make him mad, I turn into Ty and kiss his neck. Ty smirks down at me, and I smile.

Out of the corner of my eye, I can see my father, who's raging expression actually has me a little scared. But he's not going to do anything, he can't.

I'm grown, and I've made my choice, something that separates him from always reprimanding me. I merely smirk back and Ty, and lean our foreheads together.

Take that, dad.

I sit out on the balcony, my hands folded over my abdomen. Ty is asleep; I snuck out of bed to come out here.

I stare at the city lights. I particularly look at the Giant Bean sculpture in the Erudite sector. It always calms me down when I'm stressed.

I can't believe that Ty and I are going to be parents. It's something I never expected to happen this early in my life.

We have to stay together; this baby needs a good family. The only thing is, we have to be honest with each other.

He told me about what my father said, but not enough to get the gist of what's going on. If he didn't want to talk about it, all he needed to do was say something.

I sigh. I need to stop being so stubborn if I want this to work.

We both have to be reasonable.

To let out my anger, I pick up a little rock in the corner of the balcony and launch it as far as I can off the roof.

It makes me feel better. I sit back down, letting out a breath.

I run a hand through my now wind whipped hair, yanking through the knots.

I rub my index and middle fingers over my abdomen. I can't believe there's a human being in there. Something that Ty and I created.

I yawn. I guess it's time to go back to bed. I walk inside quietly, and crawl into the bed.

Sleep overtakes me minutes after I lay down.

a/n: Hope you guys liked the new chapter. 🐯 It's been a rough few days here at my casa. Our power kept going out and coming back on (it was the fuse) so we called an electrician. The fuse box is in my room, and my room was smelling weird. The guy looked inside and said that the wires inside the box were melting and were about to catch fire. So he replaced them, and fixed the wiring around the rest of our house. Our house is really old though, so yeah. Also, my wifi has been out for "tres" (3) days, and we finally had a repairman for AT&T come out, and fix it. So I've been out of touch with the world for "tres" (3) days. Ew. I also had to do VBS (Vacation Bible School) this whole week, and tonight is the night that we have to take down the decorations so I can't update later tonight. 😩 I promise to update soon!

You guys may see more that one chapter in a day of I'm just that bored. 🙈🙊

Dreaming of the beach ☁️🌊

Have an amazing and blessed day! 🌿🌸
