"Yuqi-ssi," you called out.
The two of you were sitting on the floor of the dance studio you were using, simply scrolling on your phones in silence and occasionally sipping on water as you took a break from dance practice.
The two of you are from different groups, but with an end-of-year award show coming around, your companies decided to pair you and (G)I-DLE's Yuqi together for a special stage. The two of you had already been somewhat friends before this collaboration-as in you two talked every now and then-but thanks to your companies' decision, you've both become great friends, and really enjoy each other's company.
Due to being friends and being together several days a week to practice your special stage together, you and Yuqi often go out to cafés to grab coffee or small cakes together and relax, and that seems to have sparked some speculation online amongst your fans, and even other netizens.
"Yeah?"
You showed her your phone, more specifically the article lighting up the screen. "Everyone thinks we're dating," you told her flat-out.
You would never admit this to anyone, but you honestly wouldn't mind if those rumors came true. Spending all of these days with Yuqi has been enjoyable, and you love her presence. Plus, she's gorgeous. But, regardless of that, the two of you are unfortunately just friends. Nothing is happening between the two of you besides a nice friendship. That's all.
Yuqi laughed. "Wah, really? I wonder where they got that from," she said, curiosity evident in her voice as she looked at you with a cute smile. Her eyes and smile are really pretty to you.
You looked back down at your phone, scrolling further down in the article. "Well, it shows a bunch of pictures of us at the café down the street. Aish, I wish the paparazzi would let us enjoy stuff without them," you muttered.
Yuqi leaned back and let her head fall into your lap, causing you to look down at her. She sighed and continued to look at her own phone nonchalantly. "Yeah. It sucks. But... I mean, what can we do? They don't listen to us half the time, anyway."
You sighed as well and looked up at the ceiling. "Yeah."
You hadn't shown her the amount of hate you've been getting for these rumors, and you never will.

Throughout the next hour, you had been so distracted while dancing, and it was causing you to make a few mistakes here and there. Your mind couldn't stop replaying the words of some of the hateful messages that were being sent to you.
You wouldn't dare say any of them out loud.
You've gotten hate before. You're an idol, it comes with the job. But this hate? It's beyond creative, and it's genuinely nagging at you. You wonder how someone could possibly come up with some of the things you saw.
"Okay, stop, stop," Yuqi suddenly said, waving her hand as a gesture for one of the staff to pause the music.
You sighed, knowing that it was because of you, and that she was probably fed up with all the mistakes you've been making.
Yuqi sighed as well, but not because she was frustrated, no. She was worried. This is the first time that you've begun to make mistakes during a dance practice. You're usually the one who picks up and nails moves quicker, even on the first try. In Yuqi's eyes, you're a top-tier, one of a kind dancer; which is why she's confused and worried. Something has to be wrong. Even if it's something as small as you just being tired, she wants you to talk to her about it and lean on her for help if you need it.
"Y/N," Yuqi called out, walking over to. She stood in front of you and placed a hand on your shoulder, looking into your eyes carefully. "What's wrong? The first few hours of dance before our last break went so well, and now... something seems off. Is everything okay?" She questioned, stepping closer.
She was standing unnecessarily close to you, but you decided to ignore the bubbling of butterflies in your stomach.
"I'm... I'm fine, I just- I read something online, okay? It was directed towards me, but I'm fine. I won't get distracted again," you told her.
Her frown only deepened. "Y/-"
"Yuqi."
She sighed and dropped the conversation.

"Is everyone ready?" A staff member asked loudly from backstage.
A chorus of yes responded to the staff member's question, satisfying her. "Okay, then! Girls, you're on in five," she said, looking at you and Yuqi. You both nodded firmly.
You were slightly nervous to do this performance with Yuqi, mainly because of the rumors. Thousands of people expressed their dislike and discomfort towards the idea of you and Yuqi dating, so you're scared that no one will like the performance that you both worked so hard on. You don't want a rumor to be your downfall or to affect your group, nor do you want it to do the same to Yuqi. You truly care about her, and you don't want to see her be anything but happy, satisfied with herself, and successful.
"Go time!"
As soon as a staff member yelled those words, you and Yuqi rushed out on stage and got into position.
You start out facing each other, so you looked into her eyes. She winked. You grinned back.
Then the music played.
And you're glad to say that, so far, the performance is going better than you expected it to. The both of you are having a lot of fun. It's a five minute song, and it's almost over, however, much to your dislike.
But all of a sudden, as you were smiling to the crowd and singing one of your lines, something was suddenly thrown on stage and hit you directly in the eye. Well, it hit the entire left side of your face, but your eye was experiencing the most pain because your hand was near your eye when it happened, and so you ended up poking yourself in it.
You cried out in pain and doubled over, collapsing on the floor in an instant. The pain was almost unbearable. But with your uninjured eye, you were able to see what was thrown at you so hard that you felt dizzy.
A football. A literal football. Someone somehow managed to bring a football to the venue... to throw it at you as hard as they could?
"Oh my god!" You heard hurried footsteps, and before you knew it, Yuqi was by your side, worry written all over her face. You did your best to ignore how the crowd was going crazy.
"Can I see your eye, babe? Please?" Yuqi asked, probably forgetting that her mic was on and the two of you were on stage in front of thousands of fans. She likes to call you babe and baby when you're together or practicing, so you suppose it was only natural for her to let it slip here.
The crowd completely lost their shit, though.
But you did as she asked, trying your best to open your eye for as long as you could. You kept blinking rapidly as your eyes began to water just by being open, but she was able to get a good look.
"Shit, that looks a little bad, Y/N... let's get you backstage," Yuqi said quickly. "But let me say a few words to the crowd first."
You raised an eyebrow, curious as to what she wanted to say.
"Everyone!" Yuqi shouted into her mic (a headset mic). Her voice wasn't loud, but it was firm, and one could very much tell that she was about to give a serious scolding. "I don't know who threw that stupid football up here, but whoever it was, I truly hope you feel ashamed. What do you gain from this, huh? All you've done is hurt someone who has done nothing to you, does that make you feel good or something? Well then that makes you a goddamn bully. So wake the hell up and realize that we don't tolerate that kind of stuff, and if it happens again, we will find a way to take legal action, got it? Don't you ever try to hurt my girlfriend again, or I'll deal with you myself, eh?"
With that, she helped you stand up and walk backstage. You frowned the entire time. Great. Her last words are definitely going to fuel the whole dating rumor. She literally confirmed it, all because of a mistake while saying the word friend! This whole situation is just a big, fat mess that you wish would end.
"Oh, god, someone save me," you whispered under your breath.

And, oh, how you wish that was true. Your heart is pounding out of your chest at the moment, and you have no idea what to do in the situation you've been put in. You never expected it to happen.
First of all, on the day of the performance, you were sent home with a bandage over your eye and some pain relievers. Second of all, Yuwi just confessed to you.
No kidding. She's standing in front of you right now, confessing her feelings for you. The two of you are standing outside your dorm building at ten p.m., drenched in rain and illuminated only by the two entrance lights shining outside.
"I... like you."
You took a deep breath. "I like you too, Yuqi. For a while now, actually..." your voice trailed off, filled with embarrassment.
She smiled. "I'm sorry you waited so long. I just... I've liked you for a few weeks, and I was too scared to say anything. But after the on-stage incident, my managers really pushed for me to confess my- wait... I think they told me not to say that... sorry," she said meekly.
You froze. She only confessed because her company told her to? Instead of the usual butterflies, and the ones that were just fluttering due to the moment, anger quickly bubbled up in your chest. It felt as if it were grabbing your heart and shaking it around.
"I came down here... thinking that you truly had feelings for me," you admitted quietly. "I came down here... only to find out that you're only here because your company told you to be. I should've known it was too good to be true. Well, you know what, Song Yuqi?" You felt your heart soften a bit once you saw that her eyes grew wider with each word you spoke, and how they were filled with fear, but you quickly hid it and buried it deep down.
You didn't give her a chance to respond. The question was rhetorical anyway. "Don't contact me again. The stupid performance is over anyway. So go home and stay there. Find someone else to toy with, do you hear me?"
And with that, you spun on your heel and walked back into your dorm building.
At least, that's how you tried to have it go.
But Yuqi is hard-headed sometimes, just as you are.
She was quick to grab your wrist and stop you from walking away. She yanked you back and spun you around, only to let go, grab you by your collar and pull you closer, and press her lips against yours. It was a somewhat rough and sloppy kiss at first, due to the rush, but, with reluctance, you relaxed into it and it cleaned itself up, returning to a slower pace and a normal manner. You carefully held her waist as you kissed her as gently as you could. If this was going to be your first and last kiss with her before you part ways, then you want it to be slow and memorable. The rain did wonders in that aspect; you definitely won't forget this.
When you both pulled away for air, she hugged you tightly, taking you by surprise. But it was when she spoke and broke the silence that you realized she was slightly shaking and crying quietly.
"Please don't leave, Y/N," she pleaded softly, her head resting on your shoulder. Her arms were wrapped around your neck tightly, and you know that even if you tried, you wouldn't be able to pry her off of you. You couldn't help but think that action was cute.
"Give me a good reason to stay," you mumbled lowly in her ear.
She sniffled. "W-Well... for starters, I'm now realizing that my company might've actually been pushing me to confess my feelings because they wanted to milk those dating rumors between you and I. And I didn't realize it until you pointed it out a minute ago. I'm sorry if you misunderstood. I genuinely didn't think of that. God... I'm so naïve."
She whined quietly and squeezed her eyes shut.
"No, no," you quickly started, rubbing her back soothingly, "you're not stupid. I completely understand you, Yuqi, okay? I shouldn't have been mean to you like I was, so for that, I'm sorry," you told her, gently pulling away to look into her red-rimmed doe eyes. "Oh, don't cry, love," you added, frowning at the sight of her tears. It made you want to cry as well.
She pouted. "I can't help it!" She complained. "I have genuine feelings for you, and I actually thought that my company was finally letting me date out of the kindness of their hearts, and because of my foolishness, I upset you! Ugh," she groaned out. You hate seeing her look so down.
You sighed. "Yuqi, I get it. But we all make mistakes. It's okay. What matters right now is that we like each other, and regardless of what our companies say, we'll be a couple for as long as we fucking please, yeah?" You questioned with a playful, smug smirk.
She chuckled as she wiped her tears. "I like the sound of that."
