Being a demon slayer was hard work but you'll experience also positive stuff and for Y/n the positive things out-weighted the negative things. Even though the flame hashira was testing his limits right now.
"Come on, Y/n! You can swing your sword even faster!"
Rengoku stood beside the young slayer and animated him to do better with his optimistic personality. Y/n nodded and breathed heavily while beads of sweat ran down his forehead. Y/n had recently returned from a mission together with Kanao and had planned to do something with Tanjiro and his other friends but Rengoku had basically kidnapped him to his own practice grounds to train with Y/n or rather to train the young slayer.
"Rengoku, I think that it's enough practice for today but he does look lovely and so strong! I could look at Y/n all day."
Mitsuri had sat down on a rock and had talked with Rengoku for quite some time. She wanted to wait for the younger boy to visit the new restaurant that had opened a week ago.
"Okay, then the training is ending for today, sweet Y/n!"
The man slapped Y/n gently on the back before he cleaned the practice area while Mitsuri and Y/n made their way to the restaurant.
Y/n sighed as the steam of the delicious smelling food filled his nostrils. He had no clue why the hashira's and especially the extroverted ones seemed to seek his company quite often but he had suddenly found himself with a circle of hashira friends a few months after he had joined the demon slayer corps.
"Mitsuri, can I ask you something?"
"Of course! Don't be shy, Y/n!"
Y/n exhaled and behind his food as an attempt to hide the blush that brought a rose tint to his cheeks. He had always been kind of shy and not only when he talked with the love pillar about love.
Y/n remembered his first encounter with Tengen and grew even more red. The young slayer hadn't been able to get a single word to leave his throat when he had first talked to Uzui. Over the time it got better and after two months he had finally been able to talk with the sound hashira without stuttering or mumbling words.
With Tanjiro it had been different. He seemed so kind and lovely that it was for once not Y/n's shyness that had kept his lips sealed. Instead it had been simple admiration and something else. A tingly feeling inside him. The same feeling he felt right now.
"I--I...well I wanted to ask if you...uhh--"
Mitsuri nodded at Y/n to encourage the shy boy until it broke out of him.
"I want to ask Tanjiro out but I don't know how! I know that he is gay since we have talked about this topic one time but I don't know how I should ask him out!"
Y/n sank deeper behind his food but the red glow that radiated off of his cheeks seemed to also shine underwater. Mitsuri laughed and cooed at him.
"Argh, how cute! You can buy him some flowers or write him a letter and ask him out. I am sure he won't say no."
Something about Mitsuri's smile was...strange as if she had planned something already.
"What makes you so sure?"
"Trust me. I am the love hashira so who wold know better than me if something will succeed and work when it comes to love?"
"Okay...you're right."
Y/n smiled at his friend and they started to make a plan how Y/n could ask Tanjiro out. The young slayer had decided to buy him flowers because it would be unbearable to stand in front of him while he would read Y/n's confession.
But was it really better to say it to him directly?

The next day was peaceful and calm which made Y/n wish that he would be calm and relaxed as well but here he stood in front of Tanjiro's room with a flower bouquet full of different flowers.
He gulped and glanced at Mitsuri who hid behind a corner and would jump in if there would be an emergency. That was what she told Y/n but she wouldn't step in.
The love hashira gave the shy boy a thumbs up and mouthed encouraging words. Right when Y/n lifted his hand to knock before he was too nervous to do it, the door opened.
A hand caught his before it was able to collide with Tanjiro's face. The boy smiled at Y/n and engulfed him in a warm hug.
"Hey, Y/n! I am so happy to see you here and that you are healthy after your last mission!"
Tanjiro let Y/n's sweet sent fill his nostrils and it made his heart beat faster when Y/n exhaled contently.
"It's great to see you too, Tanjiro."
Y/n leaned back and looked into his eyes and for a moment everything vanished. Even Mitsuri who was squealing loudly and who was currently dragged away by Obanai.
"These are beautiful flowers. Do you want to bring them somewhere?"
Tanjiro's lips formed a genuine smile while Y/n grew red. Tanjiro's arms and hands left Y/n's body and he was reminded why he was here besides hanging out with Tanjiro. If Y/n wouldn't confess today, Mitsuri would for sure kill him.
"Uhm...y--yes."
The rest got stuck in his throat, especially when something unusual shone in Tanjiro's eyes. He stepped to the side and let Y/n inside. The young slayer fiddled with his fingers and breathed slowly. He could do it!
"Where do you want to bring---"
"T--tanjiro? I--these flowers...they uhm they are for you."
Y/n blushed and held the flowers in front of Tanjiro's chest while he himself desperately tried to avoid staring into the Kamados beautiful and shining orbs. Tanjiro was surprised and took them carefully in his hands as if they could vanish every moment.
Nobody had ever bought him flowers before and he could feel his cheeks heating up.
"Thank you so much, Y/n. It really mean a lot to me to receive flowers from you."
He smiled once again as he made his way to a vase Mitsuri had gifted him yesterday. Tanjiro admired them for a few more seconds before he turned around to Y/n who played with his haori.
"N--no problem. I am glad that you like them."
Y/n smiled and in that moment Tanjiro knew that he was in love. He had made assumptions before but in that moment he was sure.
Zenitsu always fangirled over Y/n because he was so cute and his shyness added to that but right now Y/n looked like the boy that fought demons with Kanao together, who helped Shinobu with injured slayers, trained with Rengoku and who had made the first step and gave him flowers.
Tanjiro saw him. Not the shy and cute boy but everything he was beside that. Someone who needed time to feel comfortable with people and who was brave in his own way. Someone where Tanjiro desired to know every little thing about and who he wanted to take care of.
He took a step forward and grabbed Y/n's hands in his. Y/n blushed and looked up into his face with surprise.
"T--Tanjiro, what are you--"
"Please go out with me!"
Y/n's head was suddenly so hot that he was afraid that every moment steam could escape through his ears. His eyes widened as she looked with parted lips at Tanjiro's face and tried to comprehend his word. Was he being serious?
Tanjiro's unique eyes showed how determined he was and the grip on Y/n's hands grew stronger for a second. Y/n's voice had left his body and so he could only nod while Tanjiro engulfed him in a hug once again.
"Thank you! I'll promise I won't make you feel uncomfortable."
Y/n hummed and snuggled closer.

"--and then Inosuke slammed his head into a tree."
Tanjiro exhaled with a soft smile while he gazed at Y/n who was happily munching on something sweet he had bought him on the festival they were currently at. Their fingers were intertwined and as they talked on and on Y/n slowly started to feel how he got more and more confident again.
Soon after they left the festival and returned to Y/n's home because it was dark, he laughed and held Tanjiro's hand tightly.
"Thank you for the beautiful day, Tanjiro. I...really liked it."
Y/n averted his eyes and blushed at his own statement. Tanjiro's thumb grazed over the soft skin of Y/n's hand as he blushed too. He scratched his nape before he pulled a leaf out of Y/n's hair.
"I also enjoyed it and wondered if you want to be my...boyfriend?"
His blush deepened and the grip on Y/n's hand got stronger. The stars on the night sky couldn't compare to the light that currently shone in his eyes. Y/n was certain that he has never seen something so beautiful before. It somehow made him relax.
"Yes, I would love to be your girlfriend Tanjiro."
Y/n's hand acted on its own as his fingers slowly caressed Tanjiro's cheek. He smiled tenderly and leaned into the other slayers touch while his free hand grabbed Y/n's hand that caressed his face. Tanjiro kissed his palm and leaned towards his face.
Y/n leaned forward too and held his breath when their lips touched. His insides seemed to explode and he wanted to squeal his happiness out of his body just like Mitsuri did, not even 10 meters away from the freshly baked couple.
Obanai beside her just sighed and grabbed her arm gently while telling her something about the right of privacy but she ignored him.
"It's such a sweet sweet young love, Obanai! Look at them! Aren't they so cute?! Gyyah!"
