dawson has not a single scar on his body. his skin is as smooth as it was the day he was born. a porcelain white in the winter, he tends to tan rather dark in the summer. he has freckles sprinkling the bridge of his nose, and they similarly spread in the summer. his hair lightens to a golden blonde in the summer. in the winter, it lightens to a shiny copper brown. his most notable feature aside from those are his beautiful blue eyes. wide and gorgeous, with a sense of innocence and naiveness about them, strangers always used to comment on those blue eyes when he was a child. dawson has a beautiful smile. bright and stunning, his eyes close while he smiles. his teeth are noticeably very white. dawson is rather handsome, many people seem to think. he grows stubble when he forgets to shave. he has thick muscles, and is built to look rather obviously strong. he has wide shoulders, big arms, thick legs, and a trunk-like abdomen with prominent and muscles. dawson naturally has an extremely expressive face that does not hide his emotions well. he has very distinctive, separate expressions for joy, anger, annoyance, disgust, humor, and many, many more emotions.

dawson is an expressive person. he feels and expresses his emotions strongly. he's passionate, particularly about the art of the sword and horsemanship, as well as the plight of those lower in society. he's a happy person, he supposes he'd say. he laughs a lot, at least, and he's known to be rather chatty at times, at least in terms of that he likes to communicate often to those he knows well. dawson is one of the most trustworthy and hardworking individuals one could meet. he takes his job very seriously, and is rather serious himself when on the job. he doesn't smile as much. his brow is lowered in his 'thinking face.' he's industrious, and his loyalty leads him to care deeply about the crown. he would protect it with his life. dawson is ambitious as well, a young man eager to prove the world wrong about him. he is on the come up, and he knows it. dawson may not be the brightest in terms of catching onto context clues or making inferences. often, he simply doesn't get something someone is referencing, and must ask "what" or "why" multiple times before he is satisfied. he supposes he is also just a curious person. dawson is brutally stubborn. he won't listen to any suggestions after he has made up his mind. he always has been, and he believes he always will be. dawson is distrustful of those he does not know. he despises wicked and cruel individuals and cannot contain his anger against him, mostly due to the abuse he faced as a child. he struggles with strangers in close contact with him as a result. he can come across a touch skittish, some may say. it may be difficult to earn dawson's trust, but once earned, it will be guarded well. he is importantly also extremely blunt. he does not sugar-coat anything he says. if he believes someone looks unkempt, he will ask why. if he thinks someone is not living up to their capabilities, he will tell them. dawson speaks his truth. he asks questions that are considered rude. he makes jokes that are considered rude (among them, particularly salient impressions of others).
the legends say that the yellow knight was unrelenting. he was the toughest, most resilient fighter around. he was brave, willing to put himself in the line of fire. he never once showed fear in battle. he was a legendary swordsman and horseman, with famed endurance and strength. with his deadly and rather graphic powers, he frightened his enemies and even allies alike to where perhaps only his fellow knights knew him. he was a gentleman, they knew. he was wickedly headstrong, and importantly, courageous, more than anyone ever knew. he was funny. he, much like dawson, could not hear particularly well, but could always laugh at the misunderstandings that ensued from that. he was always on the fringes of society, and had a particular affection for the weak and the misunderstood. he was truly righteous.
⚔️ short history—
late one night, a noblewoman approached her common guard with distressing news. she had fallen pregnant. it was his child. her husband, born of similarly high status, did not know. they made a deal. once it was born, she would hand the child off to her guard. she did this, bearing the shame of having borne a bastard child, and dawson was born one spring afternoon. the forceps the midwife used cut dawson's face open. the handmaidens gasped. one of them even fainted from the blood and defacement of the poor infant boy. within the hour, however, the wound had patched itself up. it became clear that night that he was a gifted. he was an adorable baby, all chubby and cute with porcelain skin, wide, gorgeous eyes, and his unwa doo'n over his throat. he was indeed passed over to the guard to be raised by him and his common wife, although she had a great deal of resentment for the young boy, often calling him "lord redmourn," as that was the surname of his mother's noble family. however, as time passed, it became clearer that dawson could not hear well. he ignored speaking voices, and any noise quieter than an explosion. her resentment for him grew and spiraled into abuse. as the guard was often away at the castle, he did not notice. as evidenced (and perhaps practiced) by her abuse, dawson's healing factor improved. see, every time she'd strike him, light bruises would vanish almost immediately. darker bruises would fade within hours. even deeper lashes would close within the hour. by the time he was eight, his father took him with him to the castle. it was time to begin to train as a guard. dawson showed aptitude at first, with his wooden sword. he learned to write and to sign (make hand signals) to communicate, and eventually, he did learn to speak. he grew up in a strange crossroads between being considered too adjacent to nobility to be considered a commoner, but to common to be associated with nobility. he trained at the art of the sword and riding until he was about fourteen. they were tough lessons for him. he even travelled with the royal guard to the borders of the country at certain points, hunting outlaws and more. it was when he was fourteen that he became a member of the royal guard officially. dawson took his job rather seriously. since then, he's also participated in quite a few tournaments, at times, winning or coming rather close. his reputation is interestingly muddled— a bastard, a dedicated guard, a deaf man, a truly handsome charmer, and one possessing of a kind heart. however, his latest goal he supposes, is to find love. he had a crush on the eldest princess in childhood. but that was only a crush, and he's been unsuccessful thus far in the realm of love, as many roses as he gives to maidens. soon, he thinks, he'll achieve it. he doesn't know yet that he's been searching for this across multiple lifetimes.

dawson has a healing factor. in his current form, it isn't quite refined. he can regenerate from wounds and injuries rather easily— this does not extend to sicknesses. it does extend to most physical sufferings (such as burnings), the exception being anything that can kill one in a single instant (sudden stab to the chest, decapitation, etc). however, currently, he takes time. while it heals much faster than the average person, it is not instantaneous. the yellow knight, on the other hand, was legendary for his ability to withstand anything. he could jump off buildings, and rise from a broken heap in a moment. he could regenerate body parts. he inspired hopelessness in his enemies. they called him the zombie, because he could get hacked at with a blade, bleeding all over the ground, and continue walking forwards like the undead. however, after using this power for a lengthy battle, he is truly spent (not that the legends speak of the amount of exhaustion he endured after or the amount of rest needed to recover). he is also not immune to age or poison. he also faces a decreased overall natural lifespan due to the energy this regeneration draws upon. this healing factor also applies to his own muscles— as such, he doesn't get sore as he fights. he doesn't get tired either. he can battle relentlessly, and the yellow knight has been known to be unrelenting.

— dawson carries a simple sword now, a silver longsword with a black hilt. no gems lay on the hilt. no gorgeous patterned embroidery. it is the sword of a bastard, after all. it is an ugly sword, although the blade is long and clean and tenderly kept sharp by dawson. he takes care of it, although others, particularly at tourneys, mock him for the longsword that betrays who he is. dawson calls it 'the truthteller.' it tells his own truth, and it tells the truths of his opponents as well.
