"Stay away from me."
"Relax I just want to talk."
"The ominous get up and cape says otherwise."
"Who turned you?"
"Yeahhh no I'm not answering any questions. Who are you and what the hell do you want?"
*sigh* "If i tell you about myself will you answer more questions?"
"Maybe."
"I'm Demetri. I'm with the volturi."
"You say volturi like I should know what that is. I'm y/n and obviously I'm here by myself."
"You're lying. You were with those newborns. The ones in Seattle."
"Newborns?"
"Freshly turned vampires."
"Hmpf. Well I don't see any newborns here."
Demetri rolled his eyes, "look, don't be difficult I could track you from the redheads mind."
"I'm sorry, what? You know Victoria? And follow up question, what do you mean you found me through her mind."
"Long story short, I have the ability to find almost anyone at any time as long as I've met them or met someone else who's met them. She told us about one of the newborns that ran off and was gifted. I'm going to take a wild guess and say that's you."
"You have a gift?" You were starting to think that gifts weren't as rare as Victoria said, "so I take that means I can't run from you."
"No and if you don't cooperate with me, it's going to be harder to help you."
"I don't need help."
"Let me put it this way, everyone in that army she made, isn't alive anymore. Gifted or not."
"You killed them all?" You were beginning to panic. There were so many of them, how would he have managed to get rid of them all?
"Not exactly, but we were sent out to handle all of the reckless people who endangered our secret."
"By who?"
"You're not making this easy, you realize that? My coven is more or less what keeps everyone in our kind in check. There aren't many rules besides don't reveal yourself and don't turn children. You and your friends didn't do so well with the former."
You took a deep breath, you could use your gift on him but then he would find you. You could also just kill him but then he had friends and you couldn't fully control your gift yet. You heard others heading your way. His friends You assumed. Damn it. Guess you didn't have much of a choice.
"Alright fine. If anyone tries to do anything to me, it's not going to be a good day." Before he could answer three more vampires appeared next to him, "friends of yours?" You asked.
"Yes. This is Felix and those two are the twins, Jane and Alec." You looked at all of them, when your eyes landed on the shorter one, Alec, you froze. You immediately felt drawn to him. That's weird, you thought. You forced yourself to not focus on him.
"So what do you do?" The tiny blond asked. You had to be honest you only paid attention to Alecs name. Plus she was giving you attitude now. You weren't sure you wanted to know her.
"Hard to explain, hard to control. Demetri said you were sent out, right? I'll show whoever gave those orders."
"You'll show us now." She hissed
"Believe when I say you don't want me to show you."
"Oh boy," you heard the tall one say, before you could ask what that meant you felt the worst pain imaginable run through your body. You crumpled to the ground.
"Jane. Stop." Suddenly the pain began to subside, a little too late. Was that Alec? Doesn't matter. There was no way you were going with them now. You stood back up and stared them down,
"Hope this teaches you not to mess with me." You felt bad for Alec, but you weren't going to risk going with them. Your gift hit them quickly, they began to shake their head in confusion. It was always the same. The ringing would start out small then increase to a painful level. Now they were all holding their heads and covering their ears, as if that would make a difference. Soon they would be running away to try and get some quiet back. Your gift made for a quick kill or an easy getaway. You'd be going for the latter today.
"Please. stop." Demetri asked. Shame, you liked him.
"Alright we get it, stop!" Jane asked, well more like she demanded but you were still mad
"Stop talking you're making it worse!" The tall one groaned
"I did warn you." You drew a breath and let out a long whistle. It made them fall to the ground. Kind of ironic, if you think about it. You did warn her though. The taller one was the first to crack he ran off in the opposite direction. You took this time to take your leave. You turned to see smoke start circling Alec, it took everything in you to not check and see if he was okay but you knew this was your only chance. You turned around and began running.

Alecs POV
A few minutes passed before it was safe to recall his gift. It had taken a lot of effort to remember to use it and an even greater effort to try and and expand it to cover Jane and demetri.
"Well , that went well didn't it?" Demetri asked, brushing himself off. Felix had made it back a minute earlier when he realized his head didn't feel like it was about to explode.
"What was that?" He asked
"Seemed like the opposite of alecs gift." They were right it was like every heightened sense they had gained as a vampire had been heightened. Jane was quiet. You were furious and while you didn't want to be upset at your sister, your mate was now gone. And it didn't seem likely she would willingly come with them anymore.
"Why did you do that?"
"She was being difficult."
"You can't use your gift on people we need to trust us. We already messed up Aros orders for the newborns. And now she's gone!"
Jane flinched. it wasn't like you to be angry with her, and if anyone got flack for the mission it would be her. But you were beginning to panic. What if you never saw your mate again? She would never let us get near her.
"Why do you care. We can always just stick Chelsea on her."
"Don't you dare." You hissed
"Alec what is your deal??" The two of you were facing off, the other two stood back. You and Jane didn't fight often but Demetri and Felix knew well enough not to interfere when you did. Felix was leaning against a tree, arms crossed. Demetri was just focused on a spot on the ground.
"Well are you going to answer me?" Jane challenged
"Are you being serious? You don't see how you messed up just now?"
"Alright enough you two." The two of you turned to look at Demetri, he was still not really facing you but we had a job to do. "honestly Jane, now isn't the time. I found where she's heading."
Felix was next, "well then, let's go find Alecs mate."
Jane faltered "m-mate?"
"Honestly jane, you didn't notice how Alec couldn't stop staring?" Demetri joked. Jane was still not in the mood.
"Whatever. You guys go get her, I'm going to get in touch with aro and let him know what's going on. You know since I messed it up just now."
You rolled your eyes. You knew she was just echoing what you said. But both of you were stubborn. You'd have time to get over it soon anyway. You didn't have enough time to reply back to her before she sped off.
"Come on, let's go before she gets too far." Felix said, Demetri nodded and led the way.
You were getting close to her. Her scent was growing stronger. Demetri motioned for you and Felix to stop. "Alright, one of us needs to go. If all three of us show up, I doubt it will end well for us."
"Well then I should probably stay back, I don't give off the most welcoming appearance." Felix said
"I'll go." You didn't tell them it was because you wanted to talk to her alone first. They probably figured that anyway.
"Alright we will get right within hearing distance as soon as you make it to her. I'll keep track of both of you."
"Yeah, yeah." You sped off towards your mate. It didn't take long to find her, she wasnt even running. Just sitting against a tree. It almost looked as if she was sleeping, if only that were possible.
"Well that didn't take long." She opened her eyes to look at you. You found it hard to speak, all you could was take in the sight of your mate. She was beautiful, the most beautiful thing you'd ever seen. She started speaking again, breaking your train of thought. "So are you here to take me prisoner?"
"No."
"What do you want Alec?" You could tell she didn't trust you, how could she? Your twin sister just made her experience the most excruciating pain she could. She probably thought you were all monsters, the thought of that made your heart ache.
"I'm sorry for my sisters actions."
"You technically can't apologize for her. Your friends just came into hearing distance, there's only two of them though. So if she was actually sorry she would have come with you." God being a vampire was the worst sometimes.
"Well, i am still sorry. I should have told her right away not to use her gift on you."
"Why? You don't even know me?"
"You can't feel it?" Alec was panicking again, what if she rejected him as her mate? She was right he didn't know her and the fact that losing her was breaking his heart this intensely terrified him. He didn't have to worry long.
"You mean the weird pull I feel towards you, yeah I feel it. Don't know why that changes things."
You sat across from her. You desperately needed to know more about her. Hopefully, she would see you were on her side.
"How come you weren't with the rest of the newborns at the battle?"
"Because I don't fight people's battles. Victoria found a few others that were gifted and tried to befriend us so we would listen to her. I didn't want to fight so when she got mad and told me I couldn't leave... I used my power and ran. I've never been outside of Washington so I came here and now I've had the pleasure of being found again."
"I am not going to force you to come with me."
"No offense, but I don't think you could especially if you don't have your twin here. I'm just debating whether I want to keep running for the rest of this life." Fair enough.
"I want you to come with me. I won't force you, I can tell the people I work for what happened."
She seemed surprised, "why would you do that?"
"Because you're my mate. I never thought I would find you but I would rather you be happy."
"Mate." She sat there for a minute longer before she stood up, pondering what you said. you were devastated at the thought of having to say goodbye already. "Are you even sure you want me around? I don't tend to hold back and apparently neither does your sister. I don't want you to feel uncomfortable if we can't get along."
You stood up immediately, "I will talk to my sister, I hope the two of you get along eventually. I really would like you to come with me."
"I don't know, she shouldn't use her gift like that unless it's something serious. No one should." She crossed her arms and thought some more. "I'll go but you should know if she tries it again I will make things a million times worse than today."
"You'll come?"
"Yeah, I don't know anything about this mate thing but I saw you start being surrounded by some kind of mist when I left. Considering the fact I hadn't stopped worrying until you showed up...yeah I'm going." Alec couldn't stop a grin from appearing on his face.
"I'll explain everything later. Thank you, we should be heading back. We have a long trip home."
"Where's home exactly?"
"Italy."
