It had been a few months since Embry had visited you in your room. You learned all about what he had been up to, the legends, the "bear attacks", the cullens, and the imprinting. You weren't a confident person and you asked Embry to give you a day or two to process. You had worried that the only reason he had liked you now was because of the imprint. You smiled when you remembered Jared giving Embry a hard time because he would think about you all the time, the mind link made it easy to give him a hard time about it. You knew now that that was the reason he had avoided looking at you when he came back, scared that you weren't his imprint after all, and being relieved when fate pretty much brought you together. You were with Embry every second you could. And if he was on patrol then you went to help Emily cook up meals for the seemingly empty pits the boys called stomachs. You understood why he couldn't say anything to Jacob and Quil but that didn't stop them from being mad that you were now withholding information too. You were all just not speaking to eachother and it made school extremely awkward for everyone.
You were thinking about how quickly your life had changed. When Embry disrupted your thoughts.
"You know babe if someone were to actually break in, you'd be in a lot of trouble."
"Good thing I have a giant wolf to protect me."
"True." He scooped me up into a big hug.
"I thought you had patrol tonight, do you guys get days off now?"
"No something— something came up."
"That doesn't sound like a good thing."
"I don't know if it is. Jacob just phased."
"What? When?"
"I don't know, apparently he went to the movies with Bella and he started feeling funny."
"What's going to happen?" You weren't looking forward to the confrontation that was going to happen, becoming a part of the pack made you more prone to emotional outbursts. If you had a personality like Jared or Embry, it tended to be more controllable but if you have someone like Paul, well it can be dangerous.
"Sams talking to him now."
"Okay." Embry could tell I was worried, me and Jacob didn't tend to get along especially since I wasn't fond of Bella.
"You wanna talk about it?"
You sighed and payed down on your bed, "Em, Jake hates me. I told him Bella was using him to feel better about her breakup. In front of her. He's been mad at me since, he wanted me to apologize but I told him because I meant it."
"I don't think he likes me very much either anymore. Especially after he found out I told you and not him and Quil."
"Oh no Quil, he's going to be devastated" Jacob all but abandoned Quil for Bella and only saw him when Bella had school or couldn't come and work with Jacob. I knew this was going to break him. "Do you think he will phase soon?"
"I'm conflicted on saying I hope so and I hope not. This isn't a life I would necessarily choose for anyone."
You knew what he meant by that, Embry and his mom had been fight almost every day since he had to go on patrols. Sam finally told him he could tell his mom what was going on but he didn't want to add even more stress about him possibly dying because of a vampire. He already felt guilty enough bringing you into this world. You laid down on your bed and patted the spot next to you, you knew he needed to rest and he liked to fall asleep on your chest.
"Babe, would you be okay if I stayed away for a little while?"
Embry shot up immediately "Wait , why? What's wrong?"
"Em relax not from you, from the pack. I'll be honest I don't want to see Jacob, I know you guys are friends but... he should get used to this part of his life before I irritate him enough to phase."
*sigh* "you can't just ask something like that love, but yeah I understand that. You know I'd protect you right?"
"Of course I do, but he was your best friend maybe you guys can make up."
"I don't know about that, just don't stay away too long okay?"
"Okay." You started playing with his hair and eventually you both fell asleep.

It had been a month after Jacob joined, and you were finally ready to go and hang out with the pack with Jacob around. You had tried to stay away all together but Paul and Jared had basically adopted you as a younger sister and made sure you could come when Jacob was on patrol. Apparently he let the cat out of the bag with Bella so she was in on the secret too which you were not excited about. You thought at least Jacob and Embry would at least start to rekindle their friendship but they ended up arguing a lot, which stressed Embry out and irritated you even more.
"Babe, are you going to be okay?"
"Yeah it's not like he doesn't know I come by, I'm just never around him."
"You know he invited Bella, right?"
"Ugh don't remind me. I'm sticking by Leah. Please don't make me be nice, if it wasn't for her I wouldn't have to worry about all the extra patrols with the redhead."
"I won't, Jake knows how you feel thanks to the whole mind link and he expects me to not be on your side. I'm pretty sure he knows you're right."
"You're telling me I'm the only one who thinks like that?"
"Oh no Paul and Jared are very loud with how much they dislike Bella. Jacob already hated them though, you and I used be friends with him."
"You know I'm okay if you do want to be friends with him right? I feel bad that you guys don't get along because of me."
"It's not you babe, promise."
You smiled and headed towards Emily's house. You guys got there before Jake and Bella, and for that short time you remembered why it was so hard to stay away. Everyone was so different and yet it was clear that they were all family. You were trying, with not much success, to arm wrestle Paul when Jacob and Bella came in. You didn't feel like acknowledging them anyway but you had to look up when everyone got quiet. You looked to see Jacob and Embry looking at eachother like they were ready to kill eachother.
"You two take it outside. NOW." Sam was using his alpha voice, that wasn't a good sign. You stood up to follow Embry but Paul held you back.
"Hey Y/n it's probably not a good idea to go out there right now."
"I don't care if he's a wolf or not, I dare him to try something with Embry."
He sighed but he knew that I wouldn't budge on this. "Alright I warned you... this should be interesting."
"Jake what's going on?" Bella was freaking out as I got outside
"Jacob. Back off." Embry warned.
"You know I can't Em, she's my imprint." Mine and Bella's mouth dropped. I looked at Jacob but I didn't feel anything towards him. Literally nothing, but as I turned to look at Embry I started to worry. He had told me how good Jacob had been at fight and I didn't want anything to happen to him.
"She's not your anything!"
Bella was glaring daggers at me, probably worried I would steal her precious backup plan to cullen. You wanted to roll your eyes.
"If I'm imprinting it's because I need to protect her."
"Let's get something clear, I protect her. BACK OFF."
"Em, let's go inside don't waste your time. It's rude to disrupt Emily and Sams party." You went to grab his hand and you could hear Jacob growl. Embry began to shake, and even though you knew you weren't supposed to do this you stepped in front of him, you could hear Sam telling you to move but you grabbed Embry face and kissed him. This seemed to surprised him enough to calm down. You grabbed his hands "hey it's fine."
Jared was next to try and deescalate the situation, "well, I'm hungry and I know Emily's been working hard in there so why doesn't everyone just talk about this later."
Sam agreed and told everyone to go inside and play nice. Everyone quickly shuffled in and you dragged Embry to a corner of the house
"Are you okay?"
"Don't ever step in front of me again, what were you thinking? I could have hurt you."
"I'm sorry...if it makes you feel better I knew you wouldn't" you offered
"Babe, I'm serious I may not always be able to do that." He looked down at floor, "I'm sorry if I scared you, I don't want you to feel like you don't have a choice between Jacob and I, it's just—"
"Whoa," you interrupted "hey, hey look at me." You grabbed his face and made him look at you. "I can honestly tell you I don't feel anything for Jacob. I don't know how the whole imprinting thing works but I liked you way before the imprint and it only made it stronger when you told me about it. I don't like Jacob. Not like that. Not at all really."
He brought me into a hug "promise me, you won't leave."
"Pinky promise," you giggled "but babe I can't breathe."
He tended to forget his wolf strength sometimes and even though he forgot about it you thought it was cute.
The rest of the night went on as usual you talked to the rest of the Wolfpack with no problems, it was awkward feeling jacobs eyes on you, but you knew he wouldn't try anything after Sam gave the order. Leah and I were talking on the couch when she gave me a signal that Bella was heading towards me. "Do you need backup? I don't care if Jacob gets mad at me for hurting the little princess's feelings."
You couldn't help but laugh, even after what she went through Leah was a girls girl and she had become one of your best friends. "No Leah I'll be okay, can you check on Embry for me though?"
"Of course." She got up and left but not without glaring at Bella on her way out. God you hoped this wouldn't take long. She stood in front of me, and all but dared me to talk first. This wasn't going to end well.
"What do you want Bella?"
"Stay away from Jake." God she was terrible at confrontation. She looked like she terrified you would say no. It brought a smile to your face.
"Okay."
"W-what?"
"I said okay. I don't want anything to do with him anyway."
This irritated her. She wanted me to fight for Jacob, to give her a reason to dislike me.
"We-well good, he probably would have tried to ignore the imprint anyway."
"Good so would I."
"He loves me, he isn't forced to be with me like you and Embry. The only reason he's with you at all is because of the imprint."
And there it was, the one thing that you constantly worried about, your biggest insecurity and almost everyone knew it. You had told Embry about it once, and thanks to that stupid mind link the rest of the pack knew too. It was a low blow and now you were angry. You stood up, she wanted to go there, then two could play that game "Bella, you better learn to shut your mouth before I shut it for you. You've told Jacob you only see him as friend anyways, you just don't want the only person who gives you attention to go away like Edward did." This shut her up. You noticed everyone had been watching the exchange between you. Great.
"I'm sorry Sam, we should have taken that conversation elsewhere." Imprint be damned Jacob looked like he went back to hating you, thank god, but before he could say anything Sam stepped in.
"Jacob maybe you should take Bella home."
"Are you serious?" Well now the bond he supposedly felt was gone, "Bella didn't do anything."
"Jake. Take her home."
Jacob went and whispered something to Bella, she nodded and they both walked out. Embry grabbed you, and sat you on his lap. He put his arm around your waist, whether it was to protect you or hold you back was still to be determined. The rest of the night was uncomfortable, everyone kept telling you that wasn't how the imprint worked but you knew about Sam and Emily. Seen what it had done to Leah. You admitted that when you learned about it from Embry, you couldn't even look Sam and Emily in the eyes. It took Leah talking to you, before you accepted what had happened, and how strong the imprinting bonds were. It brought out the insecurities you tried to shove down so you could be happy with Embry. Every now and then, though those thoughts came back.
Embry was driving you home but you were so caught up in your own head that you didn't notice he had parked. And instead of being home you guys were at the beach.
"Em, what are you doing?"
"C'mon trust me." He got out of the car and grabbed a blanket from the back. You hesitated, you didn't want to have this conversation now. He opened the door on your side of the car and took your hand. After laying down the blanket on the sand he sat down and patted the spot next to him. You chuckled at the repetition of the gesture you usually do. You sat down.
"Ready to talk about it?"
"Not really but I don't think I have much of a choice seeing as you kidnapped me to the beach."
He feigned hurt and out his hand to his heart "You hurt me, I would never do that." He was smiling that smile you loved.
"Uh huh sure." You wrapped your arms around your legs and waited for him to start.
"You know the imprint isn't why I'm with you, right?"
"Yeah. I know you say that but it's still hard to believe sometimes."
"Why?"
"I don't know, just don't see why you would want to be with me. So it's easier for my mind to go with the imprint being the reason."
"You've heard from Jared and Paul how annoying I was when I first joined. All I thought about was you. If you hadn't been my imprint I would have been destroyed."
"And if you hadn't imprinted we would have never gotten together. Whether you admit it or not the imprint tends to be romantic more often than not."
"Ugh please don't say that, i don't want to think about that now that Jacob imprinted too."
"Hmm, oh I don't know. Jacob is suchh a catch, and all those muscles." He pushed your arm.
"Stoppp don't say that, makes me sick" he gave you another push but this time you pushed back and before you knew you two were wrestling, with him easily pinning you down. The two of you laid next to eachother looking up at the stars for a while before Embry spoke up again.
"You really don't feel anything for him, I won't get angry if you. I just—I need to know."
"No Embry I really didn't feel anything. I promise, I just want you." You laid on top of him and he kissed the top of your head.
"I love you." He said it so quietly you almost thought you heard him wrong, he had never said that before you sat up and looked at him
"You what?"
"I love you y/n, I've known for awhile but I was scared that you wouldn't believe me or it would be too soon." You could tell he was going to start rambling again so you kissed him to shut him up before he said anything else.
"I love you too. More than anything." You laid back down on his chest and the two of you spent a few more hours just laying together laying underneath the stars before Embry stirred you to get up to the car. "Nooo I don't want to go home yet."
"First of all I'm a walking furnace and you're still starting to shiver, and two I'm going to be in trouble with your parents if I don't get you home. I know you haven't told them you were taking longer than what you told them to get home."
"Yeah I guess, they like you too much to get angry with you though."
"I'm not taking my chances, cmon beautiful let's go."
"Okay, let me text them real quick to tell them I'll be there soon." You checked your phone and your stomach dropped. While you did have some messages from your mom that you quickly resolved you also saw that Jacob had tried to talk you about a million times since you left sams house. "Uh oh."
"Whats uh oh? What happened?"
You just showed him your phone, and his eyes flashed with anger again.
"I'm gonna kill him."
"Don't get into trouble with Sam. I'll tell him to back off and if he doesn't chill just let Sam take care of it. I don't want you possibly getting hurt."
He rolled his eyes but agreed. Unfortunately you both knew you would have to face Jacob and tell him to his face how you felt. Embry and you worried about how he would react so you agreed that if you did meet. One of pack members would be nearby.
That would have to be another day, nothing was going to ruin your night. Embry loved you, and that's all that mattered right now.
