Lilith sat cross-legged on her bed with a hot cup of tea in her hands. She bit her lip as she stared at the wall. Lilith could see the light from the reading lamp in the living room was still on. It's light streaming under her door. She had turned off the light to her room having pretended to have gone to bed hours ago; however, her brain was running ten miles a minute.
She knew her father had fallen asleep in the reading chair when there was a soft rapping at her window. Lilith stood setting the cup on her bedside table before going to the window.
Lance stood on the other side half hanging out of a dark portal. With a soft smile on his lips, Lilith opened the window.
"So it wasn't a hallucination," Lilith complained, leaning on her windowsill. "Nope, I'm real? Are you?" Lance teased, "Just help me out of the window we need to go somewhere no one can hear us," Lilith said, holding her gloved hand out the window. He took it as he helped her out.
"Come on in here," He said not letting go of her hand as he led her into the portal. Lilith didn't pull her gloved hand from his until they were floating in the darkness. She sighed as she noticed they weren't alone, "Tucker? Why are you here?" Lilith asked, "I-I um aaaaaa-" He trailed off, so Lilith looked to Lance for translation. Trying her best to keep from smiling.
"I thought you'd feel more comfortable if we weren't alone," Lance explained, "So you thought outnumbering me would make me happier?" Lilith half teased, but her voice was so cold they couldn't tell. Lance started shaking his hands. "No, no I wasn't trying to-" Lance started, "It's fine Lance," Lilith interrupted, Lance looked at Tucker and they both looked down.
"At least it makes sense now," Lilith muttered, "What does?" Lance asked, "The lack of poison ivy rash," Lilith said then when he stared at her in confusion she explained. "My powers have a backlash Lance, I'm cursed. Anyone who touches me gets Poison Ivy rashes, and my lips are poisonous."
Lance and tucker stared at her, "You having magic now it makes sense on why you weren't affected you poofed it away," Lilith muttered, "Yeah I had a rash but I made it vanish. Tuckers too, but I thought..." Lance trailed off. "Your powers that's why you don't like being touched," Tucker said and Lilith looked away nodding. Anger festering, she hated having to explain this to them.
"So how long-? How did you-?" Lilith started to say yet was unsure what to really ask, "What did you two want to talk to me about?" Lilith finally asked, clutching her shirt. Lance and Tucker looked at each other, then together said, "We're sorry!"
"For what attacking me and my friends, or stealing things?" Lilith said crossing her arms, "We have a good reason," Tucker blurted, and Lilith stared at him until he shrunk back face turning red. "Sorry," Tucker mumbled, Lilith looked away. His voice was enchanting even when he wasn't using his powers, not that she'd ever would admit that to anyone.
"No I'm sorry, it's just odd, hearing your voice. Now I really believe you are Mayhem," Lilith said, then looked at Lance. "And you're Prince," she sighed, Lance ran his hand through his hair nervously.
"I really don't like that name," Lance muttered, "Too bad because calling you a royal pain in the butt sounds fun," Lilith sneered crossing her arms as Lance shrunk back as well.
"I've never seen you act like this before," Lance said looking at her, "Well you've also never seen me angry," Lilith reminded him, "Right," He said, his shoulders falling. "We didn't mean to anger you, it was an accident. We didn't know you were-well you," Tucker said, softly. Lilith's anger boiled down into tears as she buried her face in her hands.
"Lilith," Lance said at the same time Tucker said, "Jewel."
Without really thinking they both moved closer to her. In an attempt to comfort her they half hugged her.
"I've worked so hard for so long," Lilith sniffled, "And you two ruined it!" Lilith said hitting them both almost playfully on their chests. They both looked at her with pitiful expressions. "I've spent years trying to become a hero, Batmans has been able to hide his identity for over a decade. I've barely been one less a year and you both figure out...Gods, I hate you both!" Lilith yelled, tears still streaking down her face. As she pushed them away, though not very far.
"I know," Lance said, "We really are sorry," Tucker said, "To top it off you two are villains, and I'm assuming Musa and Edward are too," Lilith said glaring at them both. Tucker nodded, as Lance looked away.
"We didn't want to be," Tucker said, "It was for a greater good," Lance added, "I don't understand what that means. If you don't want to be villains then why are you risking people's lives in the name of saving them?" Lilith snapped, "There is a Great Evil Beast coming Lilith, and the Justice League is ignoring it." Lance said, "We aren't," Tucker said, "And you stole all that stuff?" Lilith asked, "To fight it," Lance said, "I don't understand, why would the justice league ignore a threat?" Lilith asked, "Because they don't trust the words of villains, no matter what proof we've shown." Lance said, taking Lilith's hand.
"I want to believe you," Lilith said and Lance smiled softly at her. His big puppy dog eyes made her melt a bit. The angry fire dulled as she got used to her new reality.
"Why do you need me?" Lilith asked, "Because the evil thing feeds off of death and your powers bring life," Tucker said cheerfully taking Liliths other hand and holding it tightly. Lilith looked between the boys each looking at her with expressions she had never seen on anyone. Well anyone when they were looking at her at least.
"Poison Ivy can do the same as me if not better," Lilith muttered pulling her hands from theirs. "Tried with her but she isn't strong enough alone," Tucker said, "I will not work with her," Lilith sneered floating away from them. "Lilith-" Lance started, "Lance I can't do this not now, please just let go home and think about it," Lilith said, shying away from them both. Lance nodded and a portal opened. She started towards it and then stopped.
"You-you haven't told anyone? Have you?" She asked sheepishly, "No only we know and we'll keep it that way for as long as you'd like." Tucker said, and Lilith couldn't help but smile slightly at his determination. Lance gave him a look but nodded, "We will not tell a soul," Lance swore, Lilith couldn't help but feel like they were both rather like the Knights of old.
"If you won't tell then I won't either. Also, I'd suggest we all don't talk about any of this outside of a safe place. Maybe never out of this enchanted void. You never know who can hear what," Lilith said, and though they gave her matching confused looks before they agreed.
Lance sighed heavily as the portal closed behind her.
"She didn't agree," Lance said, "Give it time, Lilith doesn't seem like someone who'd just let the universe end," Tucker said putting his hand on Lance's shoulder in comfort. "She has to agree if we don't stop the great evil. This and all other worlds like ours will be in danger," Lance said, Lance shrugged it off and started floating through the darkness Tucker at his heels.
"This is all too much to put on anyone especially children, what is Mama Fay thinking?" Tucker asked, "She was thinking that she doesn't want to die," Lance said, "Right," Tucker smiled though it was short-lived, "She said that Jewel-Lilith wouldn't be in any danger right?" Tucker asked, "No, not if we can stop it in time, that's why we built the tree." Lance said as they both landed on a floating island in the darkness.
The moment Lance's feet touched the fake soil the tree glowed a brilliant blue along veins that were basically circuit boards.
"Tucker?" Lance asked turning as Tucker landed next to him, "Yea?" Tucker asked, "Lilith said something earlier, on why she can't touch anyone." Lance said, "You want to help her with it? Using magic," Tucker said sounding excited, "Yeah but do think she might think that I did it to make her join us?" Lance asked, Tucker, bit his lip thinking.
"She might... Though it would be nice to hold her hand without the gloves," Tucker mused as a goofy grin crossed his face, "This crush we both have? It's not going to become a problem is it?" Lance asked, looking at Tucker.
"Not if we don't let it. Hopefully, she'll eventually choose one of us. But even if she doesn't as long as we agree that her happiness is more important, I think we'll be fine." Tucker shrugged, "I agree, I'd rather not lose you over a girl. You're basically my brother, or as close to one as I can have." Lance said, "Right! Just like you use to say when we were kids. We are knights of the round table; you, me, Edwin. We're family," Tucker teased, nudging Lance in the side.
"Well we really will be once there is a round table again," Lance said, "And once we get your crown, and Lilith we'll be set." Tucker said cheerfully, "Well there is one more thing," Lance said, "Right... That thing, I really still don't want to steal from a god." Tucker said nervously, "Don't worry, Mama Fay is coming with us this time." Lance said, "Two more weeks? Then we face a horde of Amazons," Tucker complained, "And I thought finals were going to be hard," Lance sighed, opening a portal so they both could leave.
