Shortly after Bakugo started working at a hero agency he found himself partnered up with Midoriya quite a bit. He was... less than pleased, even more so after a particular drunken escapade... He'd grown a bit so he wasn't quite as explosive toward Midoriya but he didn't like having to confront his complicated feelings every time they'd work together. Ignoring them was much easier when Midoriya just wasn't around. Unfortunately for him Sero noticed the sudden change from almost being able to tolerate Midoriya, back to something closer to resentment, and he wasn't about to let it go till he figured out what was wrong.
"Come on Kacchan it's not that bad!" Midoriya's voice was cheerful as he tried to get his angry Pomeranian of a partner to be in a better mood
"Fuck off Deku." Bakugo was beyond irritated at the situation. He, Sero, and Midoriya were patrolling an event together and he was done with Midoriya's bright and cheery nature. He knew no matter what he said, Midoriya wouldn't ever truly understand his anger at what he'd done and it didn't help that it was hard to talk about in the first place.
"Awe cheer up Kacchan! Maybe if you smile-" Midoriya was cut off by Bakugo grabbing the front of his costume
"I fucking dare you to finish that sentence, nerd." Bakugo growled through grit teeth.
"Sorry, sorry!" Midoriya held up his hands and gave an apologetic smile
"Tch." Bakugo dropped his hands and shoved Midoriya away a bit before plopping down on a bench as the event wrapped up and everyone went home.
"Kacchan..." Midoriya decided since Sero would probably be gone for a few more minutes now was as good a time as any to try and talk to Bakugo.
"Leave me alone, damn it." Bakugo sighed recognizing the tone Midoriya was using. He didn't want to talk about it, especially not with Midoriya.
"Can we please just talk?" Midoriya pleaded softly, he knew he'd messed up, but he'd hoped Bakugo would forgive him. Unfortunately, it didn't seem likely.
"About fucking what?" Bakugo growled, already knowing where the conversation was going to go and wanting none of it.
"Us?" Midoriya stared at the ground as his guilt ate away at him
"No..." Bakugo leaned back gazing at the darkening sky, watching the faint outline of the clouds move across the sky
"Kacchan, I'm sorry." Tears formed in the corners of Midoriya's eyes
"FUCK ALL THE WAY OFF WITH THAT!" Bakugo barked snapping his head forward to glare at Midoriya
"Please can we just talk?" tears streamed down Midoriya's face as he tried to keep his composure
"I said NO!" Bakugo was about to let off an explosion aimed at Midoriya's shoulder when he felt some tape wrap around his arm holding him back
"Okay, now what the fuck is going on between you too?" Sero walked up to the pair, noticing a guilty and remorseful look in Midoriya's eyes and the tear streaks staining his cheeks "A couple months ago everything was fine. Then obviously something happened and now both of you have been acting very differently."
"None of your fucking business Soy Sauce..." Bakugo's voice had significantly less bite than normal. He dropped his shoulders, resting his elbows on his knees as he rested his face in his hands. He didn't want to drag Sero into his mess again. Anytime everything went to shit, Sero was always the one picking up the broken pieces and, for lack of a better metaphor, taping him back together. He was tired of feeling like a burden to his friend.
"Well I'm making it my business, so spill it." Sero sat down next to Bakugo, he was not going to let this go on any longer than he already had. As much as he wanted to give Bakugo his own space to resolve issues on his own, he knew from experience it would only make things worse.
"It's my fault." Midoriya stared at the ground, shaking slightly, clenching his fists as flashes of Bakugo breathless beneath him played at the edges of his mind.
"SHUT IT DEKU!" Bakugo tried to be intimidating but his voice came out more like a plea. He didn't want to remember how weak he felt... how lonely... how abandoned...
Sero placed his arm around Bakugo's shoulder and pulled his friend close "Continue." he nodded at Midoriya.
"After one of our missions we went and got drunk..." Midoriya's shoulder dropped as tears ran down his face. It hurt to know he'd never see that genuine smile Bakugo had that night. "We went back to Kacchan's place... things got heated..."
"Then you fucked me and left without a word..." Bakugo's voice was airy barely above a whisper as he gripped Sero's pants "Left me there alone and broken hearted." his hands trembled as a swirl of emotions made him light headed.
"Fuck, okay..." Sero pinched the bridge of his nose "Holy shit Midoriya, what the fuck?" He was not only extremely pissed but completely baffled and worried. How would Bakugo ever learn to trust people when the people he let in kept breaking him?
"I was drunk... it doesn't make sense now, but at the time I thought he'd rather I leave... I... I'm sorry." Midoriya knew he didn't deserve to be forgiven, he knew moments after he'd left that he'd fucked up. But still... he'd hoped it wasn't as big of a deal as he'd worried it would be... seeing Bakugo's face now completely blank with his eyes distant and lifeless... the gravity of what he'd done sunk in.
"Could've at least wiped me off with a fucking towel before you left..." Bakugo rested his head on Sero's chest. "Just fucking go away Deku... You already got what you wanted..." he closed his eyes and tired to push away his emotions, focusing solely on Sero's heartbeat. "Just go."
Midoriya tried to reach for Bakugo but Sero stopped him and shook his head, gesturing for him to leave. "I really am sorry." he whispered softly before heading home.
Sero and Bakugo stayed on the bench in silence, the street lamps clicking on as it got darker. The evening still and quiet. Unfortunately, the calm atmosphere did little to sooth either of them.
After some time, Sero scooped Bakugo up and walked to the normally explosive blond's house.
When they got there Bakugo gripped Sero tighter not wanting to let go but also not wanting to have to ask him to stay.
"Is it okay if I stay?" Sero worded the question carefully as he set down Bakugo, knowing if he asked if he wanted him to stay, the ash blond's pride would make him say no.
"Do whatever you want." Bakugo let go of Sero's shirt and went inside hoping Sero would follow him in.
Bakugo face planted onto the sofa trying to ignore his emotions but the moment Sero started to rub his back, he couldn't help the gut wrenching sobs that threatened to strangle him as they escaped.
Unsure what to say, Sero stayed silent and just continued to rub Bakugo's back, hoping to sooth him some.
When Bakugo finally ran out of tears, he slowly sat up as his arms threated to buckle under his weight. He wiped his puffy and blotchy face, trying to pull himself back together.
"Let's get you out of your costume and into something more comfortable okay?" Sero's voice was soft and comforting
Bakugo looked over at Sero half expecting to see a look of pity but was only met with a soft loving look. He didn't understand why Sero was always so good to him, he didn't understand why Sero never seemed to pity him despite having seen him at his lowest points. Was it love? Did Sero feel the same way he'd grown to? Had Sero loved him from the beginning? He didn't want to get his hopes up... not after the last two times... "Yeah..." he didn't resist at all when Sero scooped him up again and took him to his room.
Sero dug through Bakugo's dresser, finding him something comfortable to put on. He helped Bakugo change as he had the couple of times the blond had gotten released from the hospital but was still too injured to do everything alone.
"Thank you." Bakugo's voice was hoarse from crying
"It's not a problem." Sero ruffled Bakugo's hair gently
"Hanta..." Bakugo looked down as he picked at the hem of his shirt nervously
"Hm?" Sero knelt down in front of Bakugo "What's up?"
"You remember... When shitty hair and Pikachu got together and you stayed here with me for like a week?" it was almost a year ago, Bakugo and Kirishima had gotten pretty close, so close in fact he thought maybe Kirishima actually loved him. The redhead had never mentioned having feelings for Kaminari, so Bakugo was completely blindsided when they started dating and Kirishima stopped hanging out with him.
"Yeah." Sero had insisted on staying with Bakugo after he'd realized the boy was hardly eating and hadn't showered in close to a month. He cooked and did everything he could to keep Bakugo occupied until he started to feel better. They'd even had sex a couple of times to help him get over, as Bakugo had put it, 'the idiot extra.'
"Can... would you... again?" Bakugo's face blushed, embarrassed at how needy he felt, but he swallowed his pride. He just wanted to feel loved and Sero was the only person who ever really made him feel cared for, the only one who ever made him feel like he wasn't too much trouble, like he was worth loving, flaws and all.
"Sure. Let me go grab some stuff from my house. I'll be back in less than an hour." Sero started to get up but Bakugo grabbed his hand, gripping it tightly.
"I... don't want to be alone... Can.... I come?" Bakugo asked hesitantly as he chewed his lip nervously.
"Of course." Sero brushed Bakugo's hair away from his face before he turned around, kneeling. "Hop on."
Bakugo climbed onto Sero's back, wrapping his arms around his neck.
Sero walked the short distance to his house as Bakugo buried his face into his shoulder. Once they arrived, he set down the blond on his bed as he quickly packed up a duffle bag. He grabbed his stuff, keys, and Bakugo and drove back.
Bakugo was silent the entire time, not trusting his voice not to crack. All his emotions swirled in his head unwilling to be bottled back up. He was too lost in thought to notice he'd begun crying again.
"I'm here, it's okay." Sero tenderly rubbed his thumb on Bakugo's hand as he noticed tears streaming down the blond's face as he went to scoop him out of the passenger seat.
"Why?" Bakugo whispered in a voice filled with so much pain it broke Sero's heart.
"Why what?" Sero pulled Bakugo into his arms cradling him
"Why are you so good to me?" Bakugo sniffled "The two people I've tried to love left me... and I can't help but feel like I deserved it for being such an insufferable ass..." he tugged on Sero's shirt pulling himself closer, burying his face in it.
"Look Katsuki, the thing is, I see right through your bullshit. You have a hard time dealing with your emotions and they end up getting bottled up, and it's like putting a soda in the freezer." Sero rubbed little circles into Bakugo's back "If you ignore it too long it explodes and makes a mess." he sighed deeply as he squeezed Bakugo tighter, "But no you didn't deserve what happened to you. Kirishima should have been more straightforward and Midoriya, you know what, I'm still too pissed off about that to even say anything." he shook his head still in disbelief at what he'd been told.
"You're the only person I trust anymore." Bakugo sobbed softly as he buried his face in Sero's chest
"And I'd rather die than break that." Sero carried Bakugo inside, sitting down on the sofa. He held Bakugo tightly in his lap, letting him curl up against his chest.
"Hanta... do... Do you love me?" Bakugo whispered as he gripped Sero's shirt tighter
"Of course I do, you're my best friend." Sero squeezed Bakugo gently as he rested his chin ontop of his head.
"As more than friends?" Tears ran down Bakugo's face as he clung to Sero as though it was the only thing keeping him from crumbling away
"Yeah." Sero placed a soft kiss on top of Bakugo's head, nuzzling into the ash blond locks.
"I love you too..." Bakugo cried quietly against Sero's chest "I have for a while now. I just... I didn't want to feel like a burden to you." his voice only barely audible
"I know your brain makes you think you are, but I've never once felt like that." Sero ran his hand through Bakugo's hair, pulling away just enough to look into his ruby eyes "I love being around you and I'm more than willing to do anything for you. Let me take care of you okay?" he gently caressed Bakugo's tear stained face
"Yeah okay." Bakugo sniffled as he nodded weakly
Sero carried Bakugo to the bathroom and let the tub fill as he helped Bakugo undress.
Bakugo was quiet, just trying to keep himself from breaking down again as Sero helped him into the tub
"I'm going to make a phone call okay? I won't be long I promise." Sero kissed the top of Bakugo's head
Bakugo nodded as he slid further into the water until it was just under his nose.
Sero left the bathroom door open as he took a couple steps down the hall to call the agency.
Bakugo could only just barely hear the conversation but he made out enough to know Sero was telling them they'd be off work for a few weeks.
Sero walked back into the bathroom smiling softly "I got us some time off so we can relax." he ran his finger through Bakugo's hair tenderly before undressing and sliding into the tub behind Bakugo holding him close
"Thank you Hanta." Bakugo squeezed Sero's arm, nuzzling into it.
"Anything for you my love." Sero pressed a gentle kiss to Bakugo's neck
