as a close friend to mary, being by her side for years and years, you got the chance to see her happy moments. meeting john, dating him and how shed talk about him for days on end, and telling you about johns friend.
"sherlock is a chemist. kind of" she says while you made tea, she leaned on the counter while rammbling. "hes got a chemistry degree, but hes a consulting detective" she says. "not arrogant at all" you smirk.
"like you arent, little miss 'im perfect at everything but also very lazy'" she laughs, shoving your shoulder. "i didnt make a career of being great at everything" you laugh as you hand her her mug and lift yours to your lips, "just the local military sniper" mary completes, laughing. "thats me" you laugh.
you really werent that arrogant or stuck up, which is something mary found weird about you. sherlock would brag about his abilities and knowledge, and you could walk down the street without yelling that youre the best chess player in london. it wasnt exactly modesty, it was more like... laziness. if someone were to ask you, youd tell him, and youd always agree to anyone challenging you, no matter what. and after you won, you just left, keeping your victory to yourself.
maybe, all of your titles, rewards and abilities didnt interest you so much, they just never impressed you.
but quickly you gave away and mary won, and you went on a forced double date with the detective at a restaurant. john was very interested to see what would come up, sherlock being his arrogant self, and you being your humble self.
sherlock would tell you about his chemistry, and youd know exactly how to answer, revealing, "i took 2 years chemistry in uni, after my 2 years psychology" you smiled. sherlock was getting more and more interested in you, and the night ended with the two of you at a shooting rank, you proving to sherlock that you most definatly can shoot perfectly at a target without looking at it for more then a second.
quickly, you and sherlock started a realtionship. he loved that every single day hed find out a new hobby of yours, or maybe hed just wake up and see you doing something new saying that you 'just wanted to try and prove string theroy'
the thing you loved about sherlock is his impulsivness. hes interesting, hes quirky, hes smart. if he wants to tell you something, he will. if he thinks that you cant do something, thats a different thing. everytime hed doubt you, youd prove him wrong.
john and mary were scared they might have created the end of the world by pushing you two together.

when mary and john got engaged, you got to help a lot with the preperations for the wedding such as dresses, foods, chairs, and obviously, the venue.
you saw a few different venues, mensions, gardens, each of them having some kind of problem (that sherlock probably pointed out)
today, you looked at a different hotel with a venue attached to it, it was beautiful and clean and not too far and also on budget.
you walked around the hall, counting the tables and checking for cracks on the floor, sherlock by your side checking the angle the sunlight would hit at different times from the windows. john and mary were watching, confused.
"i like this one" mary smiles as john puts his hand around her. "i like it too" he agrees. "what do you think sherlock?" john asks, "i think that its acceptable" he says as he walks with your hand in his, you still staring at the floor and checking for cracks.
you went through the main hall to some side rooms, the kitchen and the getting ready rooms, most carpeted and nice looking, good smelling and a humidity level to your liking, so your hair wont die at the wedding night.
"oh {Y/N} look" mary says, and you snap your head over to her, smiling, skipping to stand beside her, "theres a piano in this one" she says and watchs as your face scrunchs up, shoulders tensing. "do you want me to shoot it?" you ask sarcastically, mary laughing.
mary was the only one knowing that if theres one thing that defeated you, was the piano. specifically, 'Etudes Op. 10 No. 12 "Revolutionary" by chopin, is the one thing that defeated you.
"why, whats the problem?" john asks, but before you could say anything, sherlock comes from behin, clapping his hands exctidetly. "did i just find one thing that my girlfriend cant do?" he asks, holding your shoulders from behind.
"most certinly can" you shrug his hands off of you, "show me then" he smiles, crossing his arms, "i dont want to" you defend, crossing your own. "because you cant" sherlock smirks, "shut up" you roll your eyes, pushing mary over to the manager to pay the deposit.
now that sherlock had this piece of information, even though he didnt know whats the reasoning behind it, he couldnt stop teasing you about it. you threatned him endlessly, but he couldnt get enough of it. he saw that soon youll reach your limit.

day of the wedding, everything was beautiful, every single thing. the cemerony, reception, the food, the music, the murder mystery, that after dating sherlock for a while didnt even seem weird to you, just a casual day. the only thing that annoyed you was that it was on marys wedding day, and her spotlight was taken for a while.
but after sherlock figured it out and you saved major sholtos life-which was a man you knew from work-everything went back on track.
mary and john were dancing together in the center of the room, everyone cheering and clapping for them as they did.
"do we tell her?" sherlock asks lowly in your ear, "nah" you smile, drinking from your glass, "let them figure it out" you grin, watching mary and john. "like the thing with the piano?" he teases, watching as you snap your head at him and frown, "stop it" you grumble, putting down your empty glass.
"fine, then will you grant me a dance my good lady?" he asks, offering his hand. "dont mind if i do" you smile, taking his hand and following him to the dance floor, placing your hand on his shoulder, the other one in his hand.
"will you tell me, one day?" he asks, "there are some things that you dont need to know" you smile, patting his shoulder. "youre my girlfriend, arent we supposed to share everything?" he asks, twirling you around. "so youre telling me you dont keep any secrets from me?" you ask with a smile. "not at all" he says.
"what?" you ask, forrowing your brows, "i dont have anything to hide from you" he says, shrugging his shoulders, "huh" you ackowledge, looking off to the side. "so youll tell me?" he asks with new hope, "figure it out detective" you smile, dropping the subject.
you dropped the subject, every single time sherlock saw an opening to tease you about it, he would. every single time youd only take a glimpse at the grand piano, hed make a joke or something, watch as you roll your eyes violently.
the rest of the wedding went good, no more murderers, no more interuptions. it was just perfect, the perfect wedding youd imagine mary and john having. incliding the murder mystery.
the second you said goodbye to the last guest, you groaned and bumped your forehead into sherlocks chest, sighing heavily, sherlock laughing and patting your back gently.
"i cant believe i smiled for this long" you smirk as you pull away, sherlock putting his hand round you as mary and john laugh. "well, you two deserve a gold star, not only did you solve a murder, but also were civil and polite for a whole evening" john jokes, "at least one of you" he says, and you all laugh.
"yes, id say it was a good day" you smile, putting your hand around sherlock and leaning towards him. "yes, everything went great, and {Y/N} still cant play the piano" sherlock smiles smugly. "most certinly can" you retort, rolling your eyes.
"{Y/N}, seriously, you can just say that theres one thing that you cant do" sherlock shruggs his shoulders, trying to persuade you. "so you think i cant" you clear his words, "i dont think, i know" he retorts. "ok, lets go" you grab onto his hand and pull him behind you over to the piano, john and mary following.
you sit down on the stool and raise both your hands before lowering them onto the keys, and immediatly you started pressing away, quickly finding a rythm. a very specific rythm, "revolutionary" by chopin.
john and sherlock watched amazed with their mouth agape, mary stood there shaking her head with a smile, amazed that you broke your pledge just because you couldnt let sherlock believe you cant play the piano.
you were so solemnly focused on the keys, john coulsnt tell if your eyes were closed or just staring very intensly. your shoulders and back muscles tensed and danced quickly, showing through the open back dress, and the way your fingers danced and seperated on the keys looked almost inhumane.
fingers dancing perfectly over the keys, fast and clean, the sound of the piano ringing through the different rooms as you played it, rather violently, but still very beautifully.
at the end of the three minute piece, you took a deep breath and pressed your palms on the keys, forcing a dramatic sound out of the piano, your shoulders rising and falling with each breath you took, like you just ran a marathon.
"told you i can" you smile as you get up from the stool, standing infront of them with your arms crossed. "w-why didnt you just play it before?" john asks, sherlock still stares you down with squinted eyes.
"when i was a kid i was a very impressive piano player, but when i was challenged to a play off-" "5 years ago mind you" mary butts in, smiling. "5 years 2 months and 21 days" you correct, smirking back at her, "i accidently pressed a wrong key" you explain.
"so wait, you abandoned the piano because of a one time you accidently played a wrong key" sherlock repeats, still amazed. "yes" you retort back, not a single muscle out of place. "and you played this after 5 years of not touching a piano" "yes" you nod once, smiling gently up at your boyfriend.
"youre insane" he says, eyes wide as he shakes his head, "isnt it great?" you smile as you skip over to him, kissing his cheek.
after that day you got your piano out of storage and placed it in sherlock and yours flat.
