Edward Elric: Our short tempered and short in general protagonist with a metal arm and leg who is also extremely intelligent (can i just say there are no extremely stupid characters in FMA? They have goofy moments but never extremely idiotic and dense characters) just don't call him short and your probably on his good side

Alphonso Elric: The patient little brother of Edward trapped in a metal suit of armour who has a love of cats and is usually the one who stops Edward when he gets pissed off while not afraid to call him an idiot and bop him on the head (after the fight with Scar anyone?)

Roy Mustang: The colonel and probably future Fūher of the state military who is extremely smart and definitely not someone you wanna piss off (just as Lust and Envy.....ESPECIALLY Envy) who has memories of being involved in the Ishvalan War and flirts with women alot. Also is Edward's superior officer and cares deeply for Riza Hawkeye and Maes Hughes to the point he'll probably kill for them (ok we all know he was willing to kill for Hughes) (I STILL THINK HIM AND HAWKEYE SHOULD HAVE GOTTEN TOGETHER)

Maes Hughes: I have so many nice things to say about this guy. Great father to Elicia, great father figure to Edward and Alphonse, extremely funny, Mustang's best friend, knows when to be serious, smart as hell (it got him killed to be honest), and death legitimately saddened me to the point I wanted Envy to be DEAD and this is felt throughout the entire series (even if 2003 FMA handled this better then Brotherhood in my opinion), seriously look at his funeral and Elicia saying her dad has to work and asking why he was getting buried and try and tell me that doesn't sadden you, it made me tear up TWICE

Ling Yao: The hilarious, caring, smart, and knows when to be serious Prince of Xing who apparently likes to be a moocher even though he is a goddamn prince (lol) and shared a body with Greed (who surprisingly saved Ling when he was getting pulled from Ling's body)

Greed's quotes since it's ironic a HOMUCULUS says these two quotes and the first one is actually true
