Something was about to happen.

I could tell, I could feel it. Even Gonzalo had been acting weird these past few days.

Also, there'd been even more surprising changes around the mansion.

There had been rumors going on around the mansion.

That was something that'd never happened ever since I started working here. Every maid assigned to work for the day barely spoke with each other, apart from passing information or working together to attend to guests. I was in charge of passing even the slightest information regarding Gonzalo's needs to the maids and he'd only allowed two of the maids I later learnt he had specifically appointed, to tend to his needs.

Even these maids weren't allowed to have any direct contact with him and I'd eventually have to deliver whatever they had for him myself.

So it came as a surprise when I first spotted Agatha speaking in hushed tones with one of the oldest maids around here a few nights ago. Also, the maids were now jumpy even at the slightest scare, which was very suspicious.

It was like something was coming for them and they could only watch as if approached without doing anything, knowing it would definitely get to them.

Putting that aside though, we were now ending the year.

Ever since I started working here five months ago, things had gone relatively well- that was, apart from me having to adapt to Gonzalo's way of working and his nonchalant ruthlessness.

Also, every now and then, I'd see two or three maids sitting together and speaking in hushed tones, with stiff stance and frightened eyes. Was there a secret they'd just discovered?

I heaved a sigh and ignored the maids at the kitchen entrance then went up to check on Greta and Leonardo.

The sight that greeted me was enough to make me suck a deep breath in as I paused. Warmth spread through me, warming my heart.

Leonardo was on his knees wearing a mask that covered most part of his face except his eyes and roaring in his teenage voice while Greta was trying to get away from him as he slowly moved towards her, hands spread out.

Her baby laughter was music to my ears.

My eyes brimmed and I giggled, wiping any tear that might've been willing to escape.

After we left my parents, one of my greatest fears had been that they would find it hard to adapt to another environment. Based on Greta's condition, I needed to always plan every move so she wouldn't negatively be on the receiving end.

When we just got here, she'd only allowed Leonardo play with her whenever I was busy with something else and even Leonardo would be wary of anyone who tried to play with him except Tim, the personally assigned driver and bodyguard who usually drove him to school. So it was fun to see them finally going with the flow and even letting their guards down to play this way in a completely different environment.

"She still has to take her dosage, so don't make her play too roughly." Aliza, Greta's maid reminded Leo, who nodded and finally sat down.

Greta sat between his thighs and he sang one of those old songs my mom loved singing while preparing meals at home.

My smile grew wider and I casually joined in the song, carrying Greta in my arms and twirling her in the air.

All of a sudden, the maid went out and Leo stopped singing. Frowning, I let the smile remain on my lips and was about to ask Leo why he was now squinting when someone cleared their throat behind us.
