He Admitted He Was Desperate, He Never Hid That Fact

Without a second thought, I immediately looked away and pretended to be busy with my phone. I didn’t want to be an ungrateful person, Brandon did save me yesterday after all, but I also respect Kaname. I know that if he found out that I came in contact with Brandon again, describing him as furious would be an understatement. However, things won’t always go according to how one wanted it. It didn’t take long before I heard someone knocking on the car window. Forcing myself to act surprised, I looked up and stared at the man standing outside my car.

“Brandon!” I “exclaimed” as I lowered the car window.

Something flashed in his bespectacled eyes before they vanished. With a serious face, Brandon asked, “How are you? What did the doctor say during your checkup? You did go to a doctor as your husband said, right?”

“Aside from being a bit shaken from what happened, the doctor said my little ones and I were fine,” I replied, ignoring his last question. “I guess the fact that the three of us are healthy to begin with was a huge factor.”

I noticed how his facial features seemed to soften at the mention of my two croissants. “Then I’m glad.”

I nodded, clueless as to what else to say.

“Who are you waiting for?” He looked as though he was not ready to part with me yet. As he waited for my reply, his hand suddenly reached out to touch my face. “Did you cry? What happened?”

I shrunk backwards to dodge his caress. “Brandon, please…” These two words dripped heavily of unease.

“I’m sorry… I didn’t know what got into me.”

I looked down and wrung my fingers anxiously.

“I’m sorry again,” he repeated before walking away.

I let out a huge sigh. It seemed like the universe wanted to challenge me emotionally today.

I went back to work after the quick lunch I had. Due to the unexpected drama in the parking lot, I had very little time left to choose a restaurant and enjoy my meal properly. When I reached my office, I slumped back on my swivel chair and started massaging my forehead. I could feel a headache coming. Great, just what I needed.

“Anne, could you please get me a glass of ice cold water?” I asked my secretary the moment she stepped inside to give me the documents I needed to review and sign. “Oh, and while you’re at it, kindly drop by the clinic and ask for a paracetamol.”

“Headache?” she asked, her elfin face masked with worry.

I gave her a nod.

“I’ll be right back.”

Ten minutes later, Anne came back with the company nurse. Before I could ask anything, she raised her free hand in a stop signal.

“When I told her that you had a headache, the doctor insisted that she take your blood pressure before giving me any medicine,” she explained while placing the glass of water on my table.

“Though preeclampsia[1] typically occurs during the third trimester for first-time pregnancies, some people develop preeclampsia during their second trimester. Doctor Roces wants to make sure your blood pressure is normal before giving you any medication,” the nurse told me as I sipped the water Anne brought.

“I see.”

I removed the blazer I was wearing and let her wrap the cuff on my bare arm. Anne and I breathed a huge sigh of relief when she announced that everything was perfectly normal. Anne showed her out after I thanked her.
