It Was Kaname!

Although it was quite a long cut, Kaname's thigh wound wasn't as deep as I feared. After teaching us how to clean and tend to Kaname's wound, the attending physician gave him the go signal to go home. He had to be wheeled out of the hospital and into Charles' car to prevent his suture from popping open. The sight of Kaname in a wheelchair made my chest bubble up in anger once more.

"Charles just left to get my car," I told Kaname, who was in bed and waiting for me to help him change into a clean pair of cotton shorts.

"I see," he replied. I knew he was trying to make eye contact with me but I intentionally avoided it by kneeling down.

"Move your leg a bit," I instructed while assisting him in pulling his bottoms up.

"Everyone is still mad at me, especially you," he grunted a bit and winced as his skin stretched from his movement.

"Huh, that's an understatement," I said sarcastically before walking away from him. However, I was only able to take one step because he caught me by the elbow.

"Don't do this," he begged, his odd eyes reflected his plea.

I closed my eyes and took a deep, calming breath. "Anata, I'm mad as hell right now and all I want is to tear someone up."

"I know. I'd feel the same way too if you were in my position," I felt the rough pads of his fingers smoothening the furrow between my brows. "But I couldn't just pretend to have not seen what happened."

"You're no longer in Japan. This is the twenty-first century," I slowly opened my eyes to look at him. We were almost at eye level because I was still wearing my black heels. "You're not the shogun anymore and you don't have to go around saving people. Leave that to the police department."

"Upholding justice is in my blood, Hina," Kaname reminded me. "This might be the modern world but helping others surely isn't dead in this century?"

"It's not, but if helping others means hurting yourself in the process I'd rather you be the bystander who didn't do anything," I looked down, which was a bad idea because I saw his bandaged thigh. "I was lucky that the only instance you were in danger during our time in Japan was when you raided the emperor's palace. I was lucky that I never saw you get hurt nor did I have to send you off to lead a major battle... I never expected that one of my most feared things would happen in this era."

He held my chin and lifted it to make me look at him. "This will be the first and only time I'll put myself in danger for others, okay? It won't happen again, I swear."

"Not just for others," I said firmly. "You won't put yourself in danger for anyone, period."

"What if it involved you? What if it involved mother? Or Riku?"

I sighed and didn't say anything.

"I already made my promise," he kissed my forehead. "Now please stop frowning and give me a smile."

I lifted the corners of my mouth just to satisfy him.

"Silly Hina," he laughed and pinched my nose. "You look constipated, not happy."

"Hey!"

"It's true though," he chuckled and wrapped his arms around me. "Come on, give me a proper smile."

"Fine," I flashed him a toothy but obviously fake smile.

"No, I said a proper smile."

I gave up and finally smiled properly.

"Beautiful," he whispered before drowning me in a sweet and tender kiss.

"Miss!" Anne screamed, almost giving me a heart attack. Her heels clacked as she hurried to my side, her cheeks were flushed and her eyes were glowing. "Have you seen the latest trending video?"

"What video?" I asked as I waited for my laptop to boot.

"You haven't!?" she looked at me in shock. When she 'recovered,' she immediately took her phone from her skirt's pocket and typed something. After a couple of taps, she handed me her phone. "Play it! Quick!"

I gave her a look but did as she said. The video started with two women giggling like teenagers who just saw their crush. It was shaky at first but a few seconds later, it focused on the back of an extremely familiar looking man who was loading something in the trunk of an equally familiar red car.

Girl 1: You're so obvious, we can get in trouble if he notices us you know!
Girl 2: Relax, he won't! Can't you see he's busy? Ahh, those biceps are life! And that tattoo!
G1: No, his long hair is lifer[1]!
G2: He's doing something so simple but here we are drooling like toothless babies!
G1: That's because he's a god!
G2: Mmm-hmm, he's perfection personified!

The man in the video closed the car's trunk, took something from his pocket, and tied his silky black hair. The girls squealed. Suddenly, a woman's cry for help could be heard. The man turned to where the scream came from, showing his side profile in the process. I almost dropped Anne's phone when I realized it was Kaname!

"I knoooow! I also had the same reaction when I saw the video for the first time," Anne mistook my reaction for being surprised at the man's beauty. "Isn't he gorgeous? But the surprise doesn't stop there, miss. Continue playing the video!"

When my fingers didn't move, she tapped the play button herself. In the video, Kaname yelled something before running towards Julianne and the mugger. My eyes widened as I watched him 'fly' and tackle the criminal. The man fell and they wrestled on the roadside. Julianne and the two women filming the whole thing were screaming nonstop. Mum came into view after some time and that was how Kaname got distracted, giving the man a chance to wound him with a knife. Getting injured made something in Kaname click and he went berserk. He pummeled the man until he was barely recognizable. Finally, the cops arrived and that was when the video ended.

With shaky hands, I looked at Anne and asked, "W-where did you g-get this video?"

"It's viral on most social media," she answered. "Are you alright, miss? You look kind of pale. Were you super worried that Superman would lose against the robber?"

"Superman?" I repeated stupidly. "Who's that?"

"Eh? That's what everyone is calling the hero in the video! They don't know his identity yet so they named him Superman! In my humble opinion, it's a very apt way to call him," she sighed dreamily before adding worriedly, "I wonder if he's okay. That wound looked really painful."
